We all know by now that if you are caught bulding or even riding DH/FR/XC tracks where you shouldn't, there can be large fines (this may depend on age). However does anyone know the consequences of making dirt jumps? I'm not talking about small mounds you might find in a national park or large reserves in the hills etc, but like the ones you might see kids have made on a vacant block in the suburbs? I know that the consequences would be similar but are they the same i.e. would it be possible to be prosecuted? if so, to what extent?
And no, i am not in a situation like this, but i was just wondering on what the law would have to say about it...

This forum is supposed to be about "legal" building but...
If you are caught doing the wrong thing in a NP I beleive the fines are up to $33000.

Cuts, regardless of fines, what could be worse than seeing something that you put countless hours into being destroyed by the council? Just ask some riders at the top of the hill (Blackwood) where they had some crazy jumps(talking jumps close to the City Jumps in size) near the Soccerclub (on Sheps hill road) that had a massive amount of effort, that were destroyed.

Yeh i'm in favour of not building any permanant dj's anywere cos me and my mate (Hubbie) built some lame jump out of one massive boulder (had to be at least 50kg), a pallette and some mud. We rode it once i think and then the council used a bobcat to remove it. I suggest you ask your council for permission to build jhumps somewhere and just crap on about the needs of youth and stuff. Hubbie and I are asking the council if they would allow us to use a section of land covered in lantana if we could clear the lantana and build our own dj's cos the only local thing we have is a crappy skate bowl, a vert ramp and a bmx race track which is a trek up a hill to get to.
long story short: dont bother with the illegal jumps. think of the things you could buy with all the fine money...
On the subject of getting DJ's built by council. Asking if they can be added to an existing "youth space/area" etc like the local skate bowl/vert ramp/BMX race track etc may be a more sucessful way of getting something than asking for something where nothing currently exists.

Just dont build on land that isn't yours. I know it's not the same as someone breaking into your home and making jumps but its still not your land and so you should not build there unless have been granted permission. It's a shit but theres not much that can be done.
Its either that or find some secret bush land tucked away by heaps of bush and vegetation that no one can see them except for you. Then build away. But once kids start finding them, injuring themselves of them and then their mummy's ringing up the council complaining, is when your gonna cop a whopping fine and have all your work go down the shitter

:( we just spent like 3 weeks building a road gap, and all our hours of effort was ruined by some power hungry dude who got it knocked, we didnt even get to do it
Cuts... forget about the fines... if you build in a NP I'll personally hunt you down and bugger you to within an inch of your life with a pine tree... against the grain! :)
And andrew (can't be bothered with the weird spelling)... there is no such thing as a ridiculous fine for cutting down a tree. ;)

Don't worry Grip, i have absolutly no plan to build in a national park, to far away, to much effort and to much risk...:p *shivers*

If you build on concil land and they deem your creation unsafe and have to knock it down then they will try and make someone pay for their time. As long as you never tell them that you built it you should be fine. If your in an NP then they will take serious action if they catch you and it gives a really bad rap for all riders.

Around My area there arent many Trails, but there is a council bush land called spider hill that has been "preserved for future Generations" and the counicil has now decided to just strip a large section to make a road and we're not even allowed to make trails 50 cm wide!!!
