A crew of 50 starving imigrant workers, a 15 tonne Cat excavator with an overweight know-it-all fat arsed operator, an Evian water truck, half a case of Coopers Sparkling, half a case of Little Creatures pilsner, Barbra Eden and a chapstick.

Pretty silly thread really, you need many types of tools to build a decent track.

A big log, so i can roll it down the mountain...and tada! i have a new track! And several dead bushwalkers....so maybe a shovel, that way i can dig for dirt, and dump the bodies in the pits!

Shovels are a bitch to clear with. I chose the rake, just hope you dont have to make any jumps, or berms or anything for that matter, Atleast you can use rocks, thats what I use. OMZ I AM TEH BESTEST

My tool of choice is a dirty big hoe.

Great for benching, shaping, clearing, compacting and cutting toes off!

Well, witht r hands y be stfed. ne has mentined a cane knife......my trusty cane knife. It moves rocks red tape and shit spinners.
Is the point of this thread to ask how to build / what to build with, or is it just another random poll?

Those tools that the Bush firies use, rake on one side, shovel (of sorts) on the other.

You at least need a shovel and a rake. One for digging and building jumps and the other for clearing leaf litter and such.

It'd have to be the shovel. It's universal. You can do everything with it; Dig, rake, clear grass, cut roots, smash rocks, hit mates, carry dirt. Sure, it's only designed for digging, and you'd have a hard time building a track with just a shovel, but you'd have a harder time using only any other tool. (does that make senes?)

What he said. When Joey Klein from IMBA was over here, he reckon that it was the must have for trails, although building DJ is a little different.

Was it called a Mac?

McCloud (no doubt I spelt that wrong), don't leave home without it when building. They do everything.

Does anyone know where to get them (in melbourne or on an Australian website) and how much?

McCloud tools can be brought from bunnings for about 60 bucks, your best bet would be to find out when your local rural fire service meets and rock up with a 6 pack. Worked for me.

The most useful tool is between your ears, just read the Glen Jacobs thread. One of those rake/hoe thingos would be good, unless youre building n/s stuff then a decent chainsaw and someone that knows how to use it.Permission and some mates on the same wavelength also dont go astray.
cheers jon

I know lots of tools and none of them are the sharpest in the shed:D

shovel 4sure, no doubts, i mean without a shovel how can u build a jump???, unless u can get a kanga loader or bobcat or something, and even if u can get a bobcat, etc, u need a shovel to smooth it out etc, etc, so pretty much, no shovel, no jumps
