I was just wondering how long you have to ride for before you can say that you have been for an "epic" ride

LOL. I'm not sure theres any "official" time, Im guessing all day to a few days though, leave the car, ride, explore, find some good shit, ride some more...

An epic is gernerally a ride to or around the middle of nowhere  They're good fun, I try and do one every few months, but lately working and all, my riding efforrts are more consentrated on shorther rides close to home and racing. :?

1 day, 2 day, 3 day.
Realisticaly, it's probably something like the aligator challenge or riding moab.

Depends... I'd call more than 6 hours fairly "epic", but of course then you have those maniacs that spend years touring.

epic for more is generally double what i would normally do- i think it just depends on whats normal/usal for you.

Mmmmm Hursty to Marysville sounds like a gooden, is it mtb type trail or more like them rail trails round Beechworth, and Bright?

100km of single track would be pure sweetness 8)

I think it is all relative and is not just about any one thing like time and distance but a cumulation of things like food, water, weather, mechanicals and so on.

An epic is something that sneaks up on you and you don't know it's an epic untill its too late. So beware your next epic could be just around the corner and you don't know it

i reckon an epic ride would be if you needed to take extra food and water .

But then again, a normal ride can turn in to an epic due to lack of food and water.

I just did 11 hours of off road around Mt Buller and along the Howqua.

About 6 years ago I did a ride in the Perth hills. It took us about 10-11 hours to do 90 odd kms of singletrack. Part of the Northern walk.

When you say epic, does it have to be out on trails and such...

Like if I rode at the skatepark for 10 hrs that wouldn't be called an epic?

Even my sister says that's slow Devlin, she thinks I should ban you until you get faster... even she's faster on single track than that, WITH her kidney infection!

As well as distance there are other things you have to accomplish:
-Climbing over a fence
-Getting chased by a dog
-getting 1 or more flats
-dodgy trailside repairs
maybe a swim as well

LN, you are planning on doing hurstbridge to marysville and back in 1 day? I would have to say that that would go down as one of the all time epics. I am keen to have a go at doing it 1 way and get picked up in marysville if you are keen on that. There is also a ride from castlemaine to daylseford i have been wanting to do. it is meant to be about 80% single track and is about 100k's return. how does that sound?

:wink::wink::wink::wink::wink:

I know it sounds slow but that included stops for a bit of lunch and messing around as well. Plus we were draging along a couple of guys on dh rigs.........um........can't think of any more excuses at the moment.
