As menioned in another post I am after a new Lightish? Freeride bike to compliment my XC dually. I am 6' 3" and weigh 95kgs. Thanks to your wonderful advice I am probably deciding on a Kona Stinky or Stinky deelux, the Giant AC1 and maybe aNorco Aline. After trying heaps of stores to check availability it seems that these bikes in my size L or XLare already sold out due to presales ect. Can any one please help. I needa new bike ASAP want to ride.
I like all three and would be happy with any. I have heard the the AC has had probems in the past, but I have als heard excelent things about them. I have heard that the NORC and Konas are very heavand the na is probaby the worst specced of the three.
Ay further advice n the bikes in qestion would be appreciated as would advice as to where in the hell in Australia I could get them for a rwasonable price also. I did ave 1 bike store offer to sel me one of there presold bikes if I would pay a cpouple of hundred more than retail. Not impressed gentlemen. would not take somebdy elses bike under any circumsances and I certainly won't ay ribe money for one either. I wil not mention the name of the place de t professional reasons.
All help is needed.

Well i'm gonna say the Gemini, but only because you said you said the word "lightish"!!! Otherwise a Shore would rock

Shit eh? How rude is that! That extra couple of hundred would probably go straight into that particular staff members pocket too, and not to the store...
theres probably store competitions for who gets the biggest "tips"
Yeah Squidly, why drag around those other heavy things. Gemini for sure, but we are biased. I rode them all before buying my Gemini and it was lighter and handled better than all those others.

it depends on what type of freeriding you are doing.. is the more XC orientated freeride your thing? or hardcore, huck freeride?
stinky's can do it all, they will last and last, giants will work just as well but arent as durable. the norco Aline is huge, the shore is supprisingly light too.. if i were you, i'd go for a norco VPS shore. they can be hucked or with a tripple ring you could still ride it up hill (if you're into that sort of thing)
but remember.. its your bike, so pick what tickles your fancy the most..

go the new stinky and keep ya cash they r awesome
Whatever you do, you better decide quickly, as things are selling out fast!
Damnit ay, and its still only 2003 - and we're talking 04 bikes. Far out, I wish they'd send more into the country; god knows every single one would get snapped up sometime in the same or coming year.
shan - you've got a pretty broad range of bikes there in the spectrum between XC-oriented freeride and DH-oriented freeride.... I think your first idea would be to narrow down the choices a bit (I mean an AC and A-line are going to weigh two very different amounts) - so narrow it down to what YOU want when you say a lightish freeride, and then compare other bikes in that weight range.
lol... any reason your not looking at the bighits? i think they'd fit nicely into your list. Probably ride a bit lighter than say an a-line as well.

prolley if your after a FR bike (that pedals) i think the AC1 would do the job nice. I rode a 2003 AC2 and that didnt bob much when pedalling so prob the new model with the SPV shock would be an improvement.

depends how light u want it. the light ones would be the giant or the kona but the a-line is an awesome bike!! such good value. check the 04' one out!!! but then the stinky delux is still a gr8 bike!
whish i had one of them

dont get acs, they are homo bikes (from experience ladies!!) get the gemini if you want light! the norcos are the best speced for price but the stinkys (deelux, primo) are beasts that are built for strenght! i ride a stinky and love it though, if you are after the light weight awesome bike go the gemini for sure!!! they are super nice bikes and i only rode the 900!

it i was you i wouldn't get a giant AC because i know someone that has snaped it and he wasn't doing anything to big i would go for a gemini or a stinky because i know they hold up

whoever said the stinky/deelux's are light bikes is a tool mine was like 45-48 pounds stock i wouldn't call that light. the stinky range are good for hucking and so forth but if you want to dh/racing you might find the wheelbase waaay to short and the standover hights not too good either. i wanted a longer top tube but had to get a medium cause of the standover hight issue and i still caught my pants on the seat many times trying to bail off it and found the bike on top of me so it all depends on what you want to do
