hi everyone i'm thinking about switching from mtb to bmx. what could people suggest for a good dj bmx
and what are the good/bad things about changing.

'06 or '07 DK Six Pack would have to be the best value bike to get you going...

Sealed hubs, full chro mo bars, frame and forks, double wall rims, the lot..

...now me being a little out of touch with 20 inch bikes.....but many years ago I rode a stock Free Agent "air raid " for street n park and found it to be strong like bull !!.... although I still have a soft spot for Hoffman bikes....maybe cause Matt is old like me and knows what to put into/build a 20 incher.... I would lean towards those two, but it's the same old story...just like 26 inchers, there are sooooo many manufacturers out there now it's hard to decifer all the B/S from the what you really need......

ps .....Failure bikes is another that comes to mind...worth a look, well built, strong, finish is sweet and geo on frames are sweet.

its hard to define a good bmx, or even a good. depends what you'll ride, even though everyone rides street park and dirt. if you're wanting to buy a second hand www.ozscenebmx.com is the place to look. if you're looking for new my opinion is;

1- F-it Flow $800
2- Specialized Fuse $950
3- DK 4 Pack (or possibly dayton...possibly) $600-&750 depends where you shop
4 - Integral Bel Air (EASILY best stock bik you can get), but has to be ordered from america. but well worth it. under 1 grand. normally works out to be about $950.
5- Mongoose Fuzz (new one) ....or if you're lucky maybe McCann. but Fuzz is better

they'd be the only stock bikes i'd buy

of all them i would get the 06 flow, sweet little bike, i got a 06 maccann frame is shit dints liek crazy so do all the other gooses, but they cant be beat for price and spec. they come stock with hazzard hub on the back and a spanish bb and snafu parts through out and plenty of other cool parts. but if you really want a good bike for cheap, go to danscomp.com and build and pick all your parts works out to be around $1400 u.s for a really awsome bike well worth a look.

i saw an Eastern Bikes 'ace of spades'... it was sick.

it was the pro model.. costs around 700-800 but is well worth it.

weighs like 12kg but it has heaps of mad parts (sealed hubs and BB, powerbite replica cranks, 9t cassette hub etc.) its a very clean bike :cool:

makes me wish that i got one instead of my $500 diamondback stock hunk of s***.:p

btw, if you want a BMX for dirt, get something on the longer side, 20.75 or so, the flows are good.

i dont recon that there are that many people riding BMX compared to those riding MTB... i could be mistaken but most of the people that ride BMX also own a MTB and just use their bmx for street etc.

i recon that if u want to just do DJ then u should get a longer TT and not worry about weight because the more weight u have the more momentum u get, therfore u dont need to pedal much... but it depends on wether u want to ride street at all + wether or not your local DJ's are level or have a nice hill for a run in.

For sub $700, I'd be looking complete. Have a think about the WTP Addict and the DK 4 Pack (think it's the 4 pack).

Either that or have some patience and look around second hand for something to pop up.

For dirt, you'll want a lighter bike (schmeado was incorrect. most people want a lighter bike for jumping, except those who feel a weighty bike aids stability) with a longer frame (20.75 and up) and possibly a longer back end for stability (14" and up).

Street, you'll want heavier duty parts (14mm axles, thicker everything) and a shorter frame (20.5ish front, 14" and down back end).

Park and all round use, something in the middle.

As for changing, the lack of suspension and change in head angle were the main things for me. I find my bmx is harder to manual but easier to do most other things. I am progressing faster and learning heaps more on my bmx than I did on my mtb.

Mate, has it ever occured to you that BMXs and MTBs are made for different things? der. Sure BMX's generally might be cheaper, but they're almost useless on a DH track. I have seen so many more MTBers bagged by BMXers in the real world, the only reason BMXs get bagged here, is cos you're on a supposed MTB forum. The reality of it is that, yes, i ride an MTB in skateparks, and some BMXers probably don't like that, but that's because i cannot afford to own a BMX aswell, though i will buy one in the future, but have no intention of getting rid of my MTB, because Mountain biking is what i enjoy most. so please, take your forthcoming ban as time to reflect on reality.

i am currently a bmxer have been for many years, but i love to ride mtbs, i dont see what the rivalry between the to sports is all about. i have met many great mountainbikers that are all very easy going people same goes for bmx, i just dont see a point in arguing over which is better when clearly mtb is better for off road riding such as dh xc fr ect. bmx is better for skate parks street and dirt, but its good to see mtb's crossing over trying out something new and getting good at it. IMO i think that everyone should just chill out and enjoy both sides of biking, and ride for the fun of it not for fashion, which many of the young kids these days do anyway.
