Hey Guys,

I was curious where you keep your tools at your local trails. I try and find somewhere relativley hidden. My question is do you hide them or take them home each time you go down there. I am usually at my local when ever I can so I would find it hard to take it home. Should i just leave it somewhere hidden. By a big tool chest like this http://www.billingssheetmetal.com/tool%20chest%20(5).JPG and keep it safe from the weather. If i do go for one of these chests how much do they range from?

hide them in trees other wise someone will steal the box

Find a good bush, or place them a few meters off the jumps. Those boxes will set you back a bit,.

hiding your tool in a good bush is much more satisfying than hiding it in a ugly, smelly bush.

Find a spot a bit away from your jumps and either hide in a really good bush or bury it under some leaves/dirt so it just looks like normal ground. This works really well just make it look like you havent touched the ground but remember where you hide it!

thanks for all the advice. I'm liking the dig them into the ground. I might dig a pig pit type thing and wack some ply over and put dirt back ontop.

put them in a big old green wheely bin, its not as obvious to someone walking by, keeps them dry and all in the same place

What tools are we talking about here? Maybe if they're small tools it'd be worth taking them back with you, as you would find that hiding small tools can lead to not remembering where you put them, which leads to you loosing your tools...

If they're large, heavy tools, do as mentioned, dig a pit, chuck the tools in there, and chuck a piece of ply wood on top, and cover with dirt. Just make sure its out of the way of tracks, walking tracks, etc, etc...as someone walking/riding over a piece of ply wood and hearing it may cause suspicion(sp??).

now we take them home all the time i have lost atleast 10 shovels at my local

We leave a rack in the trees, but take the shovels home.
Only leave out there what your willing to loose. A few months ago we went out to the forest to find half of it had been logged :(

What? then your just as bad as everyone else that is flogging our tools... Its twats like you that we are hiding our tools. Even if they are just little kids... Your shovel stealing might have encouraged them to steal someone else's shovel thus causing a chain reaction blah blah blah.

go die.... this thread is about people stealing YOUR tools.. and then you come out and say that you STOLE some ones tools...

Any way enough of that fool.
I just hide mine in a bush, as long as your trails are well hidden and only your mates know about them, your tools should be sweet.. Its when everyman and his dog knows abotu them you have to hide them well.. nothing beats hiding them a little bit away from the jumps..

At my last jumps, we had about 8 shovels there, a pick and a few rakes.

Got to the jumps one day and some person was useing them to destroy our jumps went down had a word to them.. they ended up being an off duty council worker going for a walk... (i dont see how they are allowed to technically dig up the ground, if they are not on duty, or been asked to?? in my eyes they are in the wrong as much as i was)

Any way long story short, the jumps got bull dozed few days later, shovels taken by the council, and i swear to god i seen my shovels getting used by the coucil workers a few weeks later... (kind of easy to see a bright white and yellow shovel)

Firstly, buy the box and a lock
Secondly, paint the box green/brown/black
Thirdly, dig a hole and bury the box
And Forthly, cover with dirt/leaves ect... and wright down where you buryed it!

You can get cheaper toolboxes (ie similar size as pictured but thinner walls and no criss-cross stuff) for $35 at bunnings, and they have a lock. But the ones ive seen like yours are over $150 (or did i read the pricetag wrong).

Yeah I would say find a good bush, and don't spend too much on your toolbox unless its your home one...

Well for me,
Unfortunatly i cbb 2 hide me tools and neither can me friends, and we have paid the consequences for it.
So far this year, we have lost about 5 shovels, a mattick, bout 2 rakes and i think a saw.
As for now, we are hiding them cause we are goin though faar to many tools.
We hide them under shores n a coupla metres of the trail wer no1 looks

when making trails, we use old tools, so they are all brown and rusted, so all you have to do is chuck it too the side, and your set!
either that or find a tree or even an old bag, and shove them in that, and cover it up!

Bugger that, steal a green wheelie bin (pick one that doesn't smell too bad)
bury it and stash your tools in that.
