It's early, but i'll be on a camp tomorrow night so i don't have a choice!

No picture as yet, back to the original style i guess!

Who are you? (Name. age bikes etc.)
Greg Geldard, 29 year old Toowoomba born and bred. New to fatherhood, old to procrastination, ride a Yeti DH9.

Why did you join Farkin?
Out riding with Josh (co-founder?) and he told me of this cool mountain bike site. About the most exciting thing (Pre STP’s) was watching the “we now have 1000 members etc” posts… But it beat working, so I stuck around.

Why did you pick that username?
I was designing a lot of Ag machinery at the time, Simpsons, and it sums up my (lack of) riding style.

What is something about you that few people know?
I once threw a vacuum cleaner at my sister.
What is your favourite section of Farkin, and why?
Anywhere but that stupid yup boys thread! It’s Worse than a chilly bin full of week old mountain oysters.

List 3 Places you want to ride before you die:
Whistler again, Les Gets again, and Italy / Europe, Fort Bill. My wife, daughter and I are moving to UK, riding is my main motivation for moving.

And 3 places you don’t want to ride, EVER! :
If there is anywhere in the world where riders aren’t friendly and helpful. A trait about our sport I think we take for granted; that and HELL. I heard that its flat in hell.

What is the best thing for you about riding bikes?
The buzz of feeling your tyres drift, the illusion that you feel like your fast. Then the social aspect has to be right up there. Got to admit to being a tinkerer too, I am a sucker for fine tuning, improving, modifying. Bit of a brand whore / weight weenie. I am my own nemesis. I remember when I started riding bagging out the old guys with the good bikes who couldn’t ride for shit.

Which do you prefer: Races, Big Group rides, 1-3 mates and you, or solo rides?
Probably the small group rides mostly. Although Thredbo’s atmosphere was awesome
Why? Like hanging with mates, plus I always pay my race fee and then axe myself on the practice run my time is usually “DNS”.

Last car crash?
Does my Coffs fuck up trip count? Drove to Curamba, blew 1st gear in the Suby, drove it into my mates garage, with the Yeti still on the roof. I was so pissed I drove home the next morning, didn’t even look at the track! My wife suggested I should quit drinking perhaps.

Last stack on a bike?
Last big one was with Toodles, Quint, Fallboy etc at Tambo, just had a pie for lunch and was ready for a nap. But “one more run”. Broke right clavical in 2 places on the rock drops. I was really worried because I heard the last guy that stacked while riding with these guys regained consciousness to find a $50 between his arse cheeks.

What is on the desk you log onto Farkin from?
Farkin for me is 3 or more places, mainly at clients offices. But the home desk: A Nexus 8 speed hub in bits. A Fox DHX5 in bits. And a heap of drawings and sketches, a few empty Pils stubbies, and a coffee mug.

What is the heaviest thing in your house?
Me probably, I really got to ride more!

Name one person you would like to squash under that heavy item?
My wife…. in a good way ;)

Last time the Police approached you was:
My mates and I went to the Gold Coast for a boy’s weekend. My cousin was driving and asked if he could borrow my radar detector for the trip.
I explained to him if we get caught shove it down the front of his pants cause they can’t body search you without a warrant. On the way home it went off, saw the cop car going the other way we weren’t speeding so thought nothing of it until they pulled him over. We got out of the car, He did as I said, but the cops said they knew he had a detector and they would impound the car if he didn’t hand it over. When he went to retrieve it the cops pulled their guns on him, thought he was going for his ‘piece’ all “homie” style. Was shit funny! Funnier still was my cousin’s apology to me after for getting my detector confiscated, even though he saved me a huge fine and a small criminal record.

Best moment on a bike:
Recently: Whistler last July. But in high school my mates and I had some great times, we used to get up at 4am 3 days a week and ride before school, waiting for the sun to peak at the top of Jubilee or Redwood Park then flying down the tracks on our full rigids. I sound like an old man…

When was the first time you rode a MTB?
1991. My first MTB was a GT Talera, blue with that speckled splashed paint job that I thought was so hot at the time. I sound like an old man…
If you could change one thing about Farkin, what would it be?
I would like to be paid for using it.

What makes a true Farker?
When you can hook up with a heap of online people you have otherwise never met before, have a great ride, make new friends, have a few beers and go home all warm and fuzzy, you’re a true farker.
Who would you most like to see join Farkin?
The more the merrier! Just contribute.

Well, there you have it. I'll be back on Wednesday to fix anything i screwed up. Peace, and i hope everyone had a great time at Ourimbah!

You eally need to hear this story in detail told by one of the people who know the man well. Maybe you won't do that again Plow?:p
Good luck in the UK mate.
Well done Demo Man and Plow.

Thanks guys.
The Yeti was fine, not a mark on it. The Subie wasn't even that bad either.

What did you actually do to blow up 1st gear. Is it just me or does the Forester gear box feel agricultural to you as well?

Great read by the way.

Gearbox was covered under warranty, I never 'launched' it on bitsumin (grass is another story:D )
Funny you should say about the "agricultural-ness" of the box, before it was rebuilt it was really clunky (from new) and some times an absolute pain in the arse to get into 1st gear. Now it is smooth
So maybe ask them to check yours out. I am guessing there is a bit of a problem with them here and there.

Stu's garage is fine isn't it? we checked it out before I left.

I would imagine they are similar/the same as a WRX box? My box is a pain in the arse to shift when its cold, requires alot of double clutching to get into first-second but once it warms up its good.
It could also be the oil? I have heard very good things about Redline Superlight shockproof in the Subi boxes. I had it in my last 2 cars, Mazda GTX's, and it made a huge difference to shift quality. Going to be putting some in my MY01 WRX very shortly.

The XT Box is actually stronger and has different ratios.
The ideas you suggest are fine, and I would love to change oil or additives, but it voids warranty. Besides Suby's problem if another box goes, not mine.

My missus used to have an XT Forester a couple of years ago (I miss that car :( ) and the gearbox in that was brilliant. I used to crunch 3rd occasionally, but never had issues with 1st or 2nd and I used to give that thing hell.

Great interview, by the way, Plow. Your stack story reminds me a bit of my last broken bone - that was one of those infamous "one last run" stories, except mine involved some fun on some doubles at a BMX park after a day of very strenuous MTBing at Castlemaine. Sounded like a good idea at the time...
