4X
Riders ride down the course individually and are timed. Riders are then seeded by the times with quickest verses slowest. The process is elimination from the first round with the top 2 riders progressing to the next round. Ideally top 4 timed riders should meet in final because of seeding.

Mountain X
Riders are randomly placed into 3 or 4 rounds, gaining points for finish positions. After the riders have raced their rounds the quarter-finals, semi-finals or finals depending on numbers begin baced on points gained from rounds. The latter is elimination with the top 2 riders progressing to the next level of final.

As I understand it, Australian Mountain X is trying to make a submission to the UCI to change to Mountain X, as Australia has already done. In a UCI race half the field is eliminated at each round, one race and bye. When we ran 4X we kept going, but it did not prove as popular as the Mtn X format.

well I would prefer it at a state and national level at least. It seperates the field a bit
moutain cross has a little bit of a "everybody wins" feel to it.. which I hate.

but whatever.. I just wanna run whatever the UCI runs... so if that changes....

The way I see it though, is if you go to the UCI rules and have elimnination from the start, a lot of riders won't go as there won't be as much value in one timed run and a race run.

Add to that the timing and entry fees would most likely go up.
