OK so western australias presence concerning mates riding on farkin is pretty lame, hopefully with something like this riders all over the place will be able to chat about riding spots and hook up for rides as is described by a 'watering hole' thread.
with the demise of minus 6, and pretty piss poor effort on sites like perthmtb and wafreeride for organising rides, maybe we'll get a better response on farkin, it may work, it may not, maybe its just us:rolleyes:
so if your a west oz rider speak up! let us know what terrain you ride, where you ride (secrets kept secret obviously) and who you ride with. you may be surprised to find out some riders near you are keen to meet new people without getting too Dr. Phil.
post pics if you want of local stuff, whatever, hopefully we'll become a bigger happier family with the advantages of the fangled internet.
other states watering hole threads are chokkas with stuff, so maybe youve all just been waiting for something like this?
websites on this side of town are too full of whingeing crap, moaning about the newest parts and how crap your bikes are, 99% of it is people trying to sell stuff without enough actual riding going on, some of you are forgetting what mountain biking really is... snaking skateboarders and making arses of ourselves!:D

hey man, well said!
i mainly ride the local skatepark and streets as i dont have my licence yet so i cant just get up and drive to any of our local tracks. There are a few good tracks around i like to hit when i get a chance! Pile Rd (Mt leonard) is a pretty good track with some twisty single track, fast downhill and a few jumps at the bottom, well worth a go if u are ever down bunbury way!
anyway, if anyone wants to get a few riders 2gether for a ride at welly mills or maybe some sk8ies and street spots in perth just giv me a yell cos im really keen to have a ride with a few talented people, i might learn sumthing!
cheers
P.S, i know there are alot of perth riders on here so POST SOMETHING

thats good, sweet as.
when i was down at welli mills last weekend for the state round, damon said thyeve recieved a 10,000 dollar grant for trail development and will be recieving another 100,000 dollars towards it later on!
with the logging of parts of dwellingup maybe welli mills will become the new place to go for pure downhill trails? its a great location, good soil, thick forest and its out of the way of people that might winge:D
i personally cant wait, its great that SWMTB are recieving so much money and have support from the local government to develop mountain biking facilities.
i'll get the ball rolling, did anyone go to the goatfarm today? there were a few things on, the club race (how did that go?) the busy bee for the new dh trail as well as regulars up there riding as usual, should have been good.
also does anyone know about super dirtjump trails in collie?
im not asking for directions of anything, just if anyones been there, what there like and maybe some pics? ive been hearing a bit about them lately...

I was up at the Goatfarm helping build the second line from the top of the hill. Its looking awesome so far. We got all of the first set of berms groomed up, just needs a bit of riding in and a bit of rain I guess :)
I think there will be more work up at the Goatfarm in the coming weekends so it'd be nice to see more people helping out. Rock garden is next up.
Im always up there having a ball on the Reign. When im not out at Langford doing the hard slog :)
Was nice to meet some of the Perth MTB club peepz too.

I think a lot of WA riders that actually ride are club members and the old grapevine works better for hooking up for rides......just go to any of the main shops supporting DH and you'll find that someones riding nearly every weekend...
For instance, guys from the PEEL club (like Buckit and Mullet Woman -Fiona and friends) ride nearly every weekend - and ride the goat farm quite a bit....
And as for the Peel club event on Sunday just gone, yeah it was fun, but they cut out a few berms in the Snake Run to try to make it a bit more DH......and the creek drop near the end got me on my second run....
I dont think anyone put in 100% as we all had to push up (bitchin), and its so damn pedally! I was worn out after my second practice.....

Hey Guys and Girls,
My wife and I only recently moved to Bullsbrook and I don't know much about the riding scene around the area but I have been to the goat farm a few times it's quite fun,I'm more into downhill. It would be great to hook up with some people for a ride and to find out about other places to ride around the place.I'm free on most weekends so if anyone is looking for someone to ride with give me a P.M and we can sort something out.
Cheers Nathan

yes if you like dwelly, especially the tom's track side i would get in there now. As soon as its dry enough and calm gives the ok they will be in there logging and that hill's number is up this summer. Might be lucky enough for murray valley to survive another year but its not looking to promising. Dont worry we have ear marked some new area's and are just waiting for approvall.Good to see swmtbc havin some joy down there such a great place to ride aswell. yeh as for us PEEL clowns we are out havin a roll almost every weekend but we try to keep it purely downhill coz that's how we like it......

WA Freeride seems to be just street/park in the last while, no offroad stuff. Would anyone be up for a regular Mundaring/Gunjin/Goatfarm/Canning Mills ride? I'm up for some mid-week rides & wouldn't mind a riding buddy.
The Useless Crew are pretty active down in Rockingham.
Check us out at www.myspace.com/rocktownmtb
The majority of us are on singlespeed hardtails, with a few geared riders and a duallie or two, we wear skinny legs, listen to punk and drink rum.
We ride reguarly, and do a reasonable amount of digging and lobbying also.
We Ride Everything:
- Street (Our most common territory)
- Park (Badly)
- Dirtjumps
- BMX Tracks
- Freeride (Our Freeride Trail, Jarrahdale etc.)
- Downhill (On singlespeed, single geared hardtails running street tyres...)
If anyones down this way, or wants to come down for a ride, get in contact with me through a PM , myspace or email (Paddlepoplion@Gmail.com), and come out for a ride.

good to see some interest, and now whos going to the state champs??
should be awesome, little caesars pizza tent, little creatures beer tent with tv to watch bathurst, test ride demo bikes, the whole lot.
having xc and dh on the same day will be awesome, and with the goatfarm being so close to perth, huge turnout is expected.

I'll be there (not racing). Sounds like it will be an awesome day - at very least it will be the most 'organised' MTB event I've been to. Really curious about what has been going down at the Goatfarm too.
MTB, Beer, & Pizza = the condensed meaning of life. The excuses you can make up for not being there are lame and meaningless.

The project was passed onto the recreation dept & the man in charge put the brakes on it for reasons of his own.
I've been in touch with him & he said he was going to try to put the proposal to council this month but wasn't 100% certain. Interpret that as you may :(
However, it has the support of the parks dept & the community services dept, it costs practically nothing to do & the land is already zoned for the activity & covered for liability, it just has to survive the internal politics of the City of Armadale.
Im probably racing the 12hr.
Singlespeed. Rear brake only. Street tyres. Drunk.
Plan is to go slowly uphill, beat the elite men down and have fun.

Just adding my bit on the original post. I try and get up to the Goatfarm at least once a weekend for a DH ride, usually early morning til midday. I'm not hard to spot when out riding - I have a full polish DH Comp (the Commodore of the downhill set). I don't race, so I don't know many people in the sport locally. Happy to make an arse of myself, not afraid to dig.
Keen to meet up with DH people - my downhilling buddy just started renovating his house so he's out of circulation. Boo hiss. See you all on a trail sometime.

I live in kalgoorlie and generally ride and build every weekend we do have a few riders up here but the fact is everyone thinks it is completly flat so no ones interested. But we got some decent trails and hills so hopefully the riding community will grow a bit more in a few years. we mostly have freeride/downhill stuff. If anyone is up here and are looking to ride a bit. just send us a pm and we will show you some of our tracks.

Geraldton is a medium sized town.
We have 2 main XC tracks and a downhill course that is quite alright!
Greenough is home to the first which is an 18km course that is quite flat and hard, although it does have some soft beach santowards the end.
Chapman river is great. The enire track is around 10kms but is a heap more technical and fun.
The downhill track is located about 8-10kms out of geraldton and is a great simple run.
Anyone in Geraldton willing to get a ride organised? PM!

Hello Perth dudes! Ok, I live up in the northern 'burbs but go everywhere for a ride. When im in Perth I am out on the road every day for a road ride and about 2-3 times a week up in the hills for a XC ride out through Pickering Brook, Mundaring and everything in between (munda biddi, little oven, katamorda, kala circuit etc)... I have been doing a few long ones to get my fitness back up to scratch after a nasty accident but also have a DH bike and would be happy to do runs with anyone.
PM me if anyone is keen for weekend or during the week rides. I have been riding the hills of Perth for about 10 years now and the people on the ride the better!

Hey there West Aussies.
We're looking at moving to Nannup, bit out of the way but looks like heaps of forestry tracks & the Munda Biddi soon to come through. Never know may even start up a B&B if we get the right house - or if we can get a bit of acerage I'll have to build my own tracks:D
Looked at Perth but places were pretty expensive and it was all just suburbia, hills were nice but even still don't like living much in a big city.
Thought I'd keep a tab on this thread for when we end up doing trips to Perth or Albany etc (have family in Albany). I'm keen on riding but my husband isn't so much.
We're moving at the end of the year. Anyone from around Nannup?

digging up this thread to get this section cranking, any wa riders on farkin let your presence be known, we might organise a huge ride somewhere just to get the group of riders who use farkin together, which may then bring more riders together through people hooking up for rides with and without using the forum.

Around nannup you'd be able to find a big variety of terrain I'd say. I actually lived down that way when I was a grom, before I started riding so most of the time I was mainly chasing surf between the capes. There's nice spots around Margs to ride XC i guess, through Boranup forest and the rest of the national park. Thats not too far from Nannup (when I say not far I mean in county terms, like a hlf hr- 45 mins drive to the next town kinda thing). Or closer to Nannup theres plenty of steeper stuff. I have mates who go out there doing hill climbs on their dirt bikes n stuff

Sounds like I'll easily find new trails to keep it interesting. For just plain riding I see there's plenty of forestry tracks around the area to get lost on too, but I'm certainly keen to get on some "real" tracks at some stage. Hopefully my husband won't mind going for short trips when hes home so I can go out riding.
I am very much familiar riding the tracks that dirtbikes have made around here in Cobar because there isn't really anything else. Although I hear the new local dentist & her hubby are into mtb, hmm I think I better make an appointment to get a new filling in my tooth;)
Country terms work for me, the nearest major town to us now (and nearest bike shop) is 3hrs away.

well i live no where near you mate but maby you parents could drop you off at the goat farm or something on the weekend if youve been there before. its way better than just riding down the street looking for drop offs but other than that you could find a non vacant black of land and build some dirt jumps there eventually the ranger will come and tell you off but its fun while it lasts i dont know why they bother us when there not catching all the taggers and what not:mad:
any way i hope i helped

The goat farm is located near Midland, its just off Great Eastern Highway towards Mundaring. It is a great place to go riding, it has many tracks including downhill ones, there are big drops and awesome jumps to. It is well worth going there !!!! :D

And it's not like smashing your elbows on every turn like a pine plantation. All the weeds are a bit long at the moment and it gets hard to see the skinny singletracks up ahead, but they'll all be dead soon so no excuses for getting wide. Nearly snake season though

Well worth going? I don't think I've ever actually heard anyone talk about the goatfarm like that... I could see how you may think it's good if you haven't ridden any other tracks in the area and dont have a car to get around, but it's nothing special, and there are alot better tracks in the area...

ive only been to the goat farm a few times, always meaning to get there more often but im rather lazy.
i used to map out some of the rides ive been on
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://members.ii.net/~rmonk/bikerides.kmz&t=h
i did em by hand in google earth, i seriously need to get myself a gps tracker. i think ive done every track and trail in john forrest, and now im starting to look a bit further around.
ive just been riding by myself lately tryin to get fit and just fucking around, but id love to meet up with others around here.

Get onto WA Freeride, the link is in my sig, there's plenty of group rides organised & they usually have some shuttling going too.
i have been on there a bit. the place is useless. i registered about a month ago, still haven't been accepted. it seems like hardly anyone goes on there too.
hey if anyone is keen to go for a ride some time. i ride a lot of street during the week (after work) around mt lawley/northbridge area.
and on the weekends i like to do a bit of dh/freeride. only been to goat farm so far (new to riding in perth).
im keen to meet more perth riders! drop me a line dudes!

G'day there,
I'm new to Nannup and recently got a new bike - STP 0.
I will just be riding the local trails for now, suss out the area & hope to have a look into the Downhill course towards Balingup. It's been a while without riding so I'll have to work on my confidence and more importantly now lacking fitness.
At the moment still settling in, so I'm yet to get the time to go for a decent ride apart from just around the yard. Hah, only just got a landline connected (took 3 weeks) so at least I can visit Farkin on a meagre 30kbps dial up connection!

hi man, Its ranga jack here
i found som spots in spearwood area.
there a small mountain called mount brown i ride at and som limestones tracks i ride at in the hills behind manning park that backs on to coogee.
they aint to bad you can get some speed and clearances on the jumps there but u have to wait around winter time cos its got some sand spots and they get really boggy when summer hits. it saves you a trip to goats farm if you don't wont to have to treck it.
shenanigans

good to see some people making an effort.
as soon as my hands better (i broke it mundaring) i'm keen for some riding.
only had 3 rides on the new sunday so far :(

Yeah aint to bad theres a few trails that have a steep face on it ant there are alot of random rocks through there.. im proberly going there for a ride this weekend. but i see how i go. where the watch tower is theres a good steep track leading down to the park but its more of a balance and braking track then fast tracks wid long jumps. but i love those tracks
