ok basically ive just picked up a bmx and i have been riding it for a couple of weeks.
Coming from a mtb i used to be very comfortable and be able to do all the jumps at my local very easy. But on the bmx it just feels plain UNCO will it just take some time to get used to the bike and make it feel comfortable or should it always feel a bit weird.
plus any tips to get better on a bmx coming from a mtb would be greatly apprecciated
cheers mitch

i notice the same thing when i go to MTB arfter a long stretch of not riding one, i think its just the change in geometry. BMX's having short forks and short TT may feel a bit weird especially if u have come off a DH mtb.

when i changed from mtb to bmx i found it quite easy because i raced bmx while i rode mtb for a long time although the first couple of djs i did on my Fit was a bit sketchy.
but i know what you mean because each weekend bmx racing i would get on the bmx and it would take me a couple of laps around the track before i could feel comfortable to hit any of the bigger jumps because i rode my mtb every day during the week.
Anyway it may take you a while but the more you ride the bmx the more comfortable you will feel on it...

it might sound silly but practice the basics first, smooth bunny hops, manuals, etc. after all this the BMX bikes are slightly twitchier in the air anyway. smaller rims&tyres= less centrifical force, this means that the bike is quite as stable.
I personally have the same problem as above (somethimes) i have to make the transfer from MTB to BMX and 2or3 laps of the bmx track tends to do it, after some initial hicups im fine.

bahahahahahaha
on topic: i find the same thing - i get on a mates BMX and cannot jump it for sh*t. i think its to do with having waaay steeper headangles and shorter geometry etc. you've just got to ride it and get used to it
On the plus side after riding your bmx for a couple of weeks your mtb feels like a moto with pedals. But yeah they're heaps different, I'm finding it hard to jump on my bmx also.

Hey
Trying to ride my bmx for any length of time moves my lower back to agony pl, pain town. Is it likely to be simply a sizing issue (I need to find a BMX with a slightly longer top tube) or is it technique. MTB's feel great, with the P-1 I just had stolen being rediculously comfortable. I ask because I am going overseas for 6 months soon, so I'm not going to get another DJ bike while I'm still here, and thus I'd kinda like to ride my BMX, but the pain is too much.
Any suggestions?

Yea I haven't ridden a BMX since 2002. Just a month ago I went wi a mate to some little play jumps and was doing some whip type trick where whole bike is sideways and front wheel is still the same direction as the frame. Anyway, I just jumped on my mates Diamondback RM20 did a couple of laps, felt OK, then tried it on the BMX and nearly threw myself into a 360!!!! You can just move BMX's around so fast it's scary!!!

well i bought a bmx 2 days ago ($160 second hand) and yeah at first it felt weird but after about 30mins riding around ive gotten used to it, still cant 180but oh well lol. ive started moving onto some bigger jumps with it and am hoping to go to apex on saturday to do some of the big doubles on it, just need to be sure ive got the hang of it.
and about the back problem, i find i get that if i ride it standing up for a longish amount of time, bmx's are usually riden in bursts, wait at the top of a bowl drop in and gun it, come out and rest for a bit then repeat. any extensive riding on a bmx will hurt ur back unless ur siting down. hope thats whats happening for u if not i guess u may wana get a bit bigger bmx.
