View Full Version : Where r the good downhills close to Melb?
i was wondering what are the best downhills around the Melbourne area? i live in the eastern suburbs and head up to the Dandenongs on a once a week basis and havnt found any of the intense downhill tracks ive heard ssooo much about...
i just use the Melways and that shows some pretty quick (marked) tracks-- my favourite is... rock track to blackhole track to georges rd to eagle nest rd to centre track -- but was hoping you guys might know some decent technical downhills that i havnt been able to spot, and arnt on the map. i like going fast! i have reached 75km/h+ on georges rd.
if you have a melways, i generally go the tracks on page 122. if you know where tracks are, maybe a melways reference might help me. if you dont want everyone to know where any subclueded tracks are you can email me at yourmumsyourdad@hotmail.com
ive done the kinglake venture but probably a bit far for me.
cheers guys,
Oram
JESUS CHRIST melbournians!!! help the lad out will yas!!!!!!
yeah mate...... depending on what you call "close" to melb, i consider a couple a hundred kilometres. right here are the tracks..
- mt. dandenongs
- narbethong
- granton
- lake eildon
- magpie creek
- kinglake
fuck can anyone else help me out.
seriously if you want a really short triop with sick arse trails (downhill ofcourse) go to mt.dandenong (dandies), great trails. its kinda hard though to find them if you've never been there before. if ya have friends that do ask them, or a local bike shop for some maps etc etc etc..
Where's Magpie Creek? Never even heard of that...
hehe sorry i wrote the thread then i read the rest of you post. heh woops.
yeah if you want suicidal steep shit, go to westface track. its in the dandenongs, right near the observation lookout. if you pass the observation lookout, you will come to an old power station on your left. theres a big mud opening and a gate. go past the gate and shortly turn off to your right. its single track for the first like 100metres then it gets really steep.

magpie creek is on the western side of mt tambo in queensland .west of the gold coast.
but im guessin there is another magpie creek. cause the qld maggie ck kicks arse
thanks alot there jamo and rhys.
yeah jamo i was told of that nutter steep trail on the west face by rhys in the email he sent.
i thought i had some skill and balls when it came to DH but rocking up at that track near the transmition towers was absolutly farked. we rode it yesterday in the 35° heat. the email i recieved from rhys was tough to follow but we found some tame looking track (so we thought).
i recon i rode maybe the first 200meters, stop started the next 200, pushed some more, fell off twice, and ended up taking a mate to hospital for 3 stitches!!! we also saw 2 5foot monitors (scary BIG lizards) sunbaking on some rocks... we stoped to admire but got hissed at so we moved on.
ill upload the battle scares onto farken sometime
thanks guys,
Jamo whats your email?
