Ok guys i dont know what spring to get. I currently am running a 500lbs and i feel it bottoms out too much, even when i sit on it. Too much sag.
Im thinking of getting a 600lbs, will this change much?
I am riding a Kona Stinky and doing now 15 ft to downhill drops and want to go bigger.(bike holds up nicely)
i weigh 75KG
please help out guys, should i maybe get a 650lbs or 600lbs spring?
Please help.

damn i hate questions like this.
the only way to really know what spring to get is to get it and try and it out.
i know that sucks, but if you buy say a 700 (random figure) and it's to stiff, you will be just as bad off as you are now. ask at your local bike shop, and see if they have any springs you can try, or know of one you can borrow for little while. also try your local club. or ask here. see if you can try a 650 for an hour or so, that will at least give you a rough idea what size to go for. put an o ring, or a small zip tie around the shaft of the shock, take a minute or two to reset your damping to cope with the stiffer spring, then ride a drop you would usualy NEARLY bottom on. see how much travel you have used. go a little bigger and check again.
thats really about all the advice i can offer. it's just going to be a matter of trying and see.
and to every one else, unless you are around his weight, or know specificacly what you are on about, please don't just pick an option in the poll. if you vote, lets hear why. i'd like to get a better way of gauging spring stiffness than try it and see myself.

it really depends on what type of sohck your running. How much travel youve got and what your going to be doing on it. ie if you want to race then its pointlesst getting an ultra hard spring.

Work it out, at 500lbs, 50lbs is a 10% difference and 100lbs is a 20% difference... so it depends how much you really need.

Doesnt leverige come into play with this. And spring rate can differate due to lever ratio compared to different bikes?

I changed from 550lb to a progressive rate 650 - 800lb on an 03 Stinky.

It's perfect now. (I weigh 80kgs) Get the spring from Dh Direct , It's not a Fox spring but the price is right.

Assuming you're putting the spring on the same bike, the leverage ratio will be the same and therefore largely irrelevant.

well looks as if most votes are for 600-650 lbs spring, im thinking to get 600lbs to still get that small bump absorbtion form the rear, what do you think.?

Try it out first.

I'd recommend bigger, like 750lb, especially if you bottom out the 500.

Most of us are gaining weight too, ......... no matter what age you are and you can always back the preload off with the heavier spring.

For hucks, go with a heavier spring.

You can't just "back the preload off", you shouldn't have to be running much to begin with.

What about those fancy springs DHD sell, that have the progressive rate?

I don't think they work quite as well as intended, because you can only have so much difference in the spring constant before the softer part binds before you bottom out.
