Hey guys im looking to buy a new bike and im deciding between a norco rampage or a specialized big hit sport. any thoughts?
RAMPAGE (1700)
- DJ2's
- Alex Supra N's
Bighit Sport (2000)
- Z1's with 130mm
- Sun Single Track's
- Fox Vanilla R (6 inches - 700lb spring)
What do u think will be better?[/code]

Big hit sport gets my vote. Better specs, a dually and specialized great warrenty.

I would go the rampage, better fork for dh and drops etc (whole inch more travel), it has holzfella cranks and a gigapipe bb, aside to the bighits husselfelt cranks. The rest of the specs are pretty similar.

DJers are better for downhill how?
Because their compliance over small bumps makes them superior.

just to settle ur argument about the forks, the DJ's where designed to jump and take big single hits, off drops n stuff, while the drop offs where meant to be an allround freeride fork aimed also at trail riding, it will eat up smaller bumps
Misplaced

Hey mtb syco coming from some wanker who steals other peoples photos of a certain towong roof drop and claims them to be yourself, makes it hard for me to think otherwise then your talking shit.
Also if you went to SCHOOL you would realise that the norco website says that the rampage has holzfellas. Quoted from www.norco.com “CRANKS: Truvativ Holzfeller double w/bash guard”
Chewy: It may be called a dirt jumper 2 but its pretty obvious that’s not what its meant for, if it were meant for dirt jumping it wouldn’t have 150 mm of travel? The rampage is a “shore” hardtail, meaning its meant for “SHORE” trails.
The Dirt jumper 2 has a Qr. 20 Pro axle aside to the drop off’s standard quick release, which would make it stronger and more capable of handling an 8-inch hydraulic disc brake. You don’t see people riding downhill forks with standard quick release do you?
Damping: they both have ssv damping except the dj2 has it in both sides.
Adjustability: exactly the same
Spring type: dj2 has coil and air, drop off has dual coil
Travel: the dj2 has a whole inch over the drop off

your right, it isnt a DJ fork, but is by no means a better DH fork than a Z.1... which is what the original argument was about before you brought some shit about 'shore' into it
and if you have ever ridden a DJ2, which now has the same internals as my DJ3 which makes it even worse, you would know that they suck balls for anything apart from DJ's and big hits..

Konaman..you are going to need to buy a different spring for the bighit due to your weight unless you are doing nothing but 15+ foot drops.

emmet im not the one whos getting a bighit im just arguing about components.
Chewy you use the term z.1 there is 7 different types of z.1s and the one on the bighit is i think the worst out of all of them. If you read what i said they both have ssv damping except the dj2 has dual ssv damping system? that makes it superior to the drop off comp.
Chewy by bringing shore into the equation i said that to show that its not actually a dirt jump fork like most people above have been saying. Shore isnt just huge drops, if you watch some videos with the north shore in it you will realise that its very rocky and the trails are covered in tree roots.

oh yea.. but the drop-off comp has dual ssv.. which makes it pretty much a 2003 DJ3.

It doesnt say it has dual ssv in the specs on the marzocchi home page so im assuming it doesnt?
The drop off one which is the better of the two does have dual ssv damping but i think the bighit has the drop off two (comp?)

if it were meant for dirt jumping it wouldn’t have 150 mm of travel? no real dirt jumper would ride or race with 150mm of travel, dirt jumpers either ride short travel; 4" or less or rigid, i know this because: a. i am a dirtjumper and if you race with long travel forks you lose all of your speed and b. because it's just common sense.
anyway back to the point of the thread, the bigshit sport, although single pivot rides super smooth and does come with decent drivetrain for the money. the rampage, well... yeah... not so sure about the rampage...
yeah konaman i got what you were trying to say, i just meant to reinforce your point, that's all.

yeah sifter i was saying that its not a dirt jumper becuz dj forks have like 100mm not 150.
Racing with long travel forks loses speed? do you see steve peat riding judies?

By the way the norco site says a bit of stuff that isnt true, manik in australia comes with husselfelts so the rampage might aswell.
do you see steve peat riding judies?
Well he rides everything else weight-weenie XC style, so it wouldn't suprise me
And this fork debate is getting a bit silly. Out of both forks, I'd rather choose none... sell the sucker and get a decent DC fork. So depending on the upgrade path and intended riding, the fork might be irrelevent.

racing bsx with long travel loses speed, not a chance you can convince me otherwise.

i think you mean racing 4x sifter
i hate it how now everyones calling it 4x and bsx, i mean, ok i don't hate it but back in the day it was always just dirtjumping, because you went around a circuit and there was occaisonal dirt jumps, bsx and 4x never really caught on with me. but oh well, i'll try.
Mr. Van - i'll be the one of the first not to be a dickhead here, and ask what your intending to do with your bike.... ?
The rampage does have some nicer gear on it in certain places, etc etc - but it's still a hardtail, and it's my newly formed opinion that hardtails do suck it on the nasty downhills. Go on all you want about skill guys, bla bla - to me it just makes it painful and detracts from the fun of it. JMO on that one.
I'd say take the dually - go and bargain down the price, whatever - and you can always get a new fork later down the track if your not pleased with the existing.
But if your just hitting up the trails, not hitting up too many drops, and not screwing up too many landings - the rampage might be a fun machine to have.
I'd take the bh sport myself, even if it isn't the best in the world.
or theres this if you live somewhere near geelong or if they'll post it :)
