Until recently i had never really hurt myself biking.
Last October however i mistimed a small double, landed a bit wonky, put my left foot down and fractured my heel. Six weeks off the bike, 3 of which were spent on crouches.
I had one run at Bulli after that to test my new shock before the Thredbo nationals.
Get to thredbo for the nationals, screwing around in the carpark on a friends bike i hit some stairs, pull the wrong brake lever at the bottom and go over the bars pretty hard onto the road.
The result was/is, i broke about half an inch off the end of my distal radius bone in my right wrist/arm and compressed the TFCC(triangular fibrocartilage) enough to split it in half. That was 7th december. I had an X-ray and was told by my doctor that it was just a bad sprain. By mid January my wrist was disloacting a dozen times a day so back for some more test i go. The results are listed above.
It's now 6 months since i have really ridden any of my bikes and on the weekend my stupid farkin wrist dislocated again, and again, and again just about every time i moved it. Today i booked more tests and an appointment to the specialist. Today i also start that 12 month healing process again...........
And that my friends is the story of Gutties retirement from MTBing.
Damn it was fun wearing this all summer.

And it's even more fun wearing this since the cast came off

I'll stop the self pitty there.........thanks for listening ??

damn gutty that suucks.
only badish injury ive had was a fleshwound on my right knee. i did it on my motobike doin jumps and somhow when i stacked the foot peg scooped a big chunk of flesh just under the knee cap. i needed about 30 internal and external stiches i think, and i couldnt bend my leg for a month other wise the stiches would split. which they eventually did anyway. that sucked since it was in the middle of summer holidays but it doesnt even compare to guttys shit

Hmm, i hope it wasn't my sob story that put an end to this thread.
Anyway, i had to scan this X-ray in for little bro so i thought i'd post it up here. Got his foot run over by a 50 tonne fork lift. 6 months off his foot and 3 years before he could return to work in a some what normal manner.

Sorry gotta boast for worst injury.
The backflip in mtb is a gift, not somethign that should be tampered with, i landed it and bottomed out, and i was thrown forward and the brake lever ripped my shorts and ripped through my tighty whities and ripped the bottom of my nads( my gooch) i was bleeding like hell, and luckily fainted, i had lost alot of blood and woke up in hospital, i was heavily bandaged and and had torn my ureathra( tube wence you piss through) i had had surgery to fix it and didnt ride a bike for 8 months. I cant reproduce now but am still sexually active. 14 months later i tried the backflip again. and succed.

Holy fargus CannondaleChase!!!
That must really, really suck. But atleast you can go the distance with the girls now ey! But with all the IVF shit these days, penis's are almost redundant anyways.
My worst injury so far has been tearing the muscles in my right shoulder trying to jump over a shopping trolley using a 1/2 foot kicker in Artarmon. I cleared the sucker, but was to far back and washed out hard when I hit the ground. Crunch goes the arm, swelling in seconds, now it dislocates all too often.
Next worst crash was the hip at USYD. What was I thinking??!?!

I think everyone's heard about my last crash...
broken upper arm
http://www.farkin.net/forums/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=993 (http://www.farkin.net/forums/album_pic.php?pic_id=993)
which at the same time gave me:
dislocated shoulder
concussion
& little bit of jaw issues thrown in there just for fun...
Did it august 03... bone took way too long to heal, still don't have all my motion or strenth but i'm allowed to ride on the road now... woooo! (pathetic but exciting)
that was the worst crash i've done...

you knwo i've heard of more people breaking backs or necks & being better really quickly... i don't get it, backs & necks seem like a really bad thing to break yet all these people do it & are riding again really soon!
You can check out the second page of my gallery for the pics, but I managed to stack, dislocate my arm bone through to the rear of my shoulder (lump on back of shoulder), snap the cap off the bone (you can see it in the last x-ray in the top right), as well as split the rotator cuff off the bone attached to another chunk of bone an that floated at the back of my shoulder for a week... 2nd last x-ray is after first op, 3rd last xray is after last op...
Its been almost 12 months, I have fairly limited movement in the shoulder(the rotator cuff controls most of that), and I have just been told that there is an up to 6mm gap btw the cap and bone on one side, and that there is a cavity under the cap, so no more riding (or anything remotely extreme) for at least a couple of years till that fills itself up...dammit! all that after a quick off camber turn!

This isn't from a stack or anything. I was playing skool sport and hurt the upper bit off my right leg and i could hardly walk so i went to the physio and she thought it was just a torn mussel and said to rest it for a while. So i did for about a month and it was still realy hurting. I kept on waking up at night because of the pain and was taking like a asprin each day. So we went back to her then she sugeted u sports medison clinic so we went there and the guy gave me heaps of x rays and mri scans and prooding and poking then about 2 months later i found out that i had artheritis in my hip and i'm only 14. I have to take medication everyday and after about 6 months from taking medication i still can't run properly.

I feel that man!
I'm 22 and I have some arthritis in both my hips, right ankle, and right shoulder, and a highly arthritic left knee...
I've had the hip and ankle problems basically since day one, connected with being a highly premature baby, the left knee and right shoulder are from multiple dislocations...
If I run any kind of distance, by the end of the day I can't walk, knee swells up...And cold weather brings on an assortment of pains and some bizzare noises. My knee constantly clicks and my shoulder makes random cracking noises, regardless of the weather, though its worse in winter.
Sucks hey! None of that was from mtb'ing though, except one shoulder dislocation.
I have never really injured myself bad on the bike, though my best two are having a section of tree stump impale itself 3/4" or so into my forearm when I crashed over a berm once..And slipping a pedal doing a drop trials riding, stubbing my right big toe into the ground and fracturing it - but I wasn't game to tell my folks so I put up with the (excruciating) pain for a couple of weeks and it heeled, just makes some funny noises now :D
Oh and I snapped a BB axle which sliced through my calf requiring 12 internal and 15 external stitches..I had to walk a couple of hundred metres to the doctors, when I got there they said "take a seat", and I said, "ah maybe someone better look at it, I don't want to get any MORE blood on your carpet"...

This wosnt the worst injury that has ever happend but a funny one.
I was at bmx training at the Knox bmx track, and i tried to jump the triples, and i didnt make it, i front rim bashed and bit strait through my tounge. There was heaps of blood.
I think it was in 1998, so i 8 yrs old.

i got my first rotor burn on the weekend. it was great now i have a perfect imprint of a hayes rotor on my thigh. with regard to floody's post, when i rode trials the muscles over my shoulder blades got too big and they started pushig the blade into my ribs. still there but i've done counter training to buld up the muscles in the front to pull evenly. So my advise is to train properly.

Not a winner for the worst accident, but a contender for a stupid one I think....
Out riding on the last Wednesday night ride....whilst everyone was getting their grease fill at Maccas, I was playing around....did a nice enddo, dropped the back end, and somehow managed to roll my ankle when I put my foot down.
Felt sore, got home and iced, ect, but already swollen by then....then it got some colour into it;

The colours looked better in real life....
