demo man

This man probably needs the least introduction than any member of Farkin. He only has a few hundred posts under his belt and doesn't spend heaps of time here, but he is certrainly a very interesting guy and I think everyone will enjoy meeting this Farker!
I promised you a surprise last week, and here it is. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Jared Graves....
http://si6.mtb-news.de/fotos/data/6490/jared-graves.jpg
1. Who are you? (name, age, bikes you own)
Jared Graves, 23, bikes…..errrr lots currently
2. Why did you choose your username?
It somehow seemed fitting
3. Where do you live?
Toowoomba, born and bred, those who call it a hole can get stuffed…
4. Why did you join Farkin?
Scotts a good mate, said he was starting a site, so I joined coz it seemd like the thing to do for a mates new site…
5. How did you get into mountain biking?
Grew up racing bmx, got over it at about 12, still wanted to ride bikes but not bmx, dad had just happened to buy a giant Rincon as he’d hit 40 something and was starting to pack on some pounds, so he got it to get fit again, but I took it over, and thrashed that thing silly.
6. List 3 places you want to ride before you die:
A few of the worlds cup courses that came and went before I got a chance to ride them. Maribor, Arai and Big bear, ive ridden big bear a lot, but now that its shut to dh I really want to ride it again, some good times have been had there.
7. List 3 places you DON'T want to ride before you die:
I could entertain myself in a carpark on a bike, so nowhere really, except maybe in some super hot sandy desert, that would suck.
8. Funniest thing seen while riding:
When my older brother used to ride with me when we both did xc we’d get up early and go for rides with the local roadies, and a few of them were super uptight oldies, so when we were out in the middle of nowhere, he’d take off a glove and sneak up behind them out of nowhere and slap his glove around their face and make magpie noises and they would fully think they were being swooped, and then seeing their reactions when they found out he was playing with them, they were wayyyy too serious, funny stuff.
9. What is currently on the computer desk you’re typing on?
Empty Tin of spaghetti, blank cds, a big bird mcdonalds happy meal toy, and an empty bundy can.
10. Best vehicle ever used for shuttling:
Any dual cab ute, as long as the bike gets to the top, preferably without doing bike damage
11. Worst vehicle ever used for shuttling:
Anything that scratches the s**t out of your bike
12. Most amount of dollars gambled and on what:
Nahhh, I prefer not to throw away my money
13. When did you last service your bike?
Everyday, I keep em A1
14. Last time you were approached by the police was:
A few days ago, riding around the front yard, for not wearing my helmet, its happened 3 times in the last 3 weeks, I smell a rat….
15. Last car accident:
Driving the new Yeti truck into a concrete pole while being too concerned with not backing into the Corvette parked behind it
16. Most foul food ever eaten:
I ate a live golf ball sized black spider once…possibly 1 too many drinks
http://forums.farkin.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=51455&stc=1&d=1163406455
17. Most cash you've had in your hand:
At a bike shop I worked at when I first left school I got to go do the banking most of the time, 15k was not uncommon
18. Is it possible to have too many sponsors?
Only if youre too lazy to represent them properly
19. One person you'd love to see become a member of Farkin is:
Paris Hilton...so I could pay her out, I don’t like her….at all. I dont like people who get something for nothing
20. You seem to be having a cracker of a year so far, are you happy with it?
Yeah it was pretty good, was happy with how everything was going leading up to worlds, then it all went wrong when I broke my thumb 3 weeks out, ah well, its all healed now and doing good.
21. How do you think the O/S season will end for you?
See above ( I got this interview to do many months ago, but forgot about it till now)?2nd overall for the 4x world cup was a good result, but some mechanicals and missing races from injury stuffed my dh chances, woulda also liked to defend some norba titles, but I did less than half the norbas this year, its hard to do all world cups and norbas, you kinda have to pick one series or the other, this year world cup was the main focus, and winning worlds 4x was a big goal, but broken bones cut that one for me.
22. What do you miss the most while overseas riding?
GF Jess and my dog Jake
23. What is the best part of riding for a living?
Doing what you want every day, atleast in the offseason, and knowing your getting paid to do it.
24. What is the worst part of riding for a living?
People don’t understand how stressful the race season can be, constant travel, and living out of a suitcase, and a lot of the time at races we’re up at 6 am, and are non stop till 8 pm, or later, with practice for 4x and dh, and cleaning stuff, and finding good food and talking with sponsors about how your bikes are going, and about a million other things that pop up, it will really wear you down on the 15th straight week of that
25. You must have experienced a lot of different mountain bike scenes in your time, how does the Aussie scene compare?
As far as the riders go and the atmosphere its great, the most friendly and laid back races, but very competitive at the same time, I love racing at home
26. What’s the best and worst thing about the Aussie MTB scene?
Best thing would be how friendly everyone is, worst thing is the sponsorship, riders getting a few sponsors that give them cheap stuff and maybe the odd freebie and the riders in turn plastering their bikes and jerseys with their logos, this is not sponsorship, rides put their lives on the line every time they ride, they deserve better. Maybe some sponsors are doing the best they can and genuinely care about the riders, but don’t make them look like a billboard, little Johnny being expected to plug brand X in the biggest way at all times for a cheap bike really bugs me!
27. What would you change about mountain biking in Australia?
I think its all going pretty well at the moment, id like to see traditional xc racing pick up again, its kinda sad at the moment.
28. What would you change about mountain biking in the world?
More TV coverage, when I see little league baseball and spelling bee’s on American TV it really makes me scratch my head
29. The best and worst things about 2006 are:
Best thing: Sam hill, world champ, worst: getting another year older, every year seems to go faster.
30. How do you see mountain biking changing in the future?
I could predict a bunch of optimistic crap, but in reality, most of that stuff never happens, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

If you have lived under a rock for the past few years and don't know who Jared is, or just want to see how fast he really is, take a look at the infamous videos Scott has made of the man. There are two, here's the most recent video. (http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=49230&highlight=Graves+video)
Hope you liked it! See you all next week (assuming I get around to organising someone!).
