Their are some hydraulic linear pull brakes, Wendler power brake MT-7 reviewd in the April 99 AMB. They compared them to the Formula MD1 mechanical disc and they said their was bugger all between them in terms of performance (this is back when mechanical disc's were shit)

They also said that they are a brilliant trials brake, the problems with them were that the pads were too large to fit wide rims (which can be fixed with new pads.

if your interested they cost $395 for a complete set from
FBI 02 9977 1351 (this was back in 1999 so don't quote me on this.)

Interesting, I stand corrected on the issue of linear pull hydros.
So how do these things work anyway? I can't even picture a linear pull hydraulic brake in my head.

They push the fluid down the hose, which is attached to one side of the brake. The fluid pushes a piston attached to the other lever (ie say the lhs half of the brake caliper), but is held by the far-side lever. So it forces the caliper levers towards each other.

for $400 you could just get a new set of magura HS-33 racelines and have the ability to get parts from any decent bike shop.
