yeah yeah - I know it's a few hours late. Some simple file confusion was at fault this time. But hey - it was definately worth the wait, because tonight I have great pleasure in announcing this guy as our spolighted Farker of the week. He's been prowling around these parts for as long as I can remember. He told me he was a bit embarressed by this, so be gentle :p
So, meet Nicho.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a184/demo_man/unknown-3.jpg
Who are you (name, bikes you ride, age, etc.)?
Mon nom c’est le roi dagobert qui met sa culotte a l’envers…
No Seriously my name is Nicholas I'm 26 years old, ride a NICOLAI UFO ST for dh , a NICOLAI BMXTB for 4x and dj etc, and finally to come an 07 NPJ EASTBEAST for all street and dj abuse.
I have a bachelor of business from a french college. Only date exotic women and ride exotic bikes heheheh.
When and why did you become a member of Farkin?
OH dear better look at my profile for that…. Ok may 2004 it was. If i remember correctly it was when i ran away from France and searched politcal asylum in australia as i have a heavy record in organ smuggling. Johnny then took me under his wing and fought my case as i was the first french he knew that hadn t surrendered ( but i still love cheese).
On a serious note though it was during my last year of studies and i did my final year thesis while doing my internship at St george bank in the homeloan department….boring huh the smuggling story is more interesting..
So St george bored the living hell out of me and i had just gotten out of a sinus infection so was looking at getting back into fitness with a sport that i always loved.
Hooked for a couple of street rides on my huge bullit with monster ts and some local riders took me to some local races and i was hooked from then on as i had never really raced downhill before.
What made you choose that username?
Pretty obvious and lack of shift111 omgzors knowledge to make up a funky name.
Is it true that you’re French?
Oh yes it is. Those that have met me probably couldn't pick any accent but i am born in Paris and have lived and grown up there until the age of 23.
Mother is aussie but father is the real french guy (he even owns a wine shop in paris) can t get more french than that.
To give you an example while growing up and coming to australia for summer holidays (which was wimter realistically) i just couldn t grasp the concept of walking bear feet on the street or let alone wear a jacket and gloves on a warm winter morning in Sydney.
Quite frankly i do have withdrawal symptoms and often wake up the middle of nights craving some cheese fondu, or snails….
Anyway yeah i have two passports…francais et australien.
Do you have a hero? If so, who, if not, why not?
My hero or heroes are the people around me that would do anything for me to have a better life than they did. To narrow it down i think of my dad and my grandfathers. My grandfathers for having to fight a world war just for a freedom and democracy in their respective countries. it’s always pretty hard listening to my french grandpa telling me to go and vote as that's what he fought for, and a better future for all us. And my father for doing his best for my well being. Yes i grew up a only child with divorced parents but i think family is what i cherish the most.
Ah dear all this is just the wog in me…..
On the mountain bike side of things, I have a massive respect for Nicolas Vouilloz as he was my racing legend at the time i started mtb, but on a national level i would say that i m pretty impressed by robbie mc naughton s involvement and dedication (and business mind too haha). I have met Dudes like gary Fischer while volunteering at the olympics games in 2000 which was quite amazing. Last year at the Eurobike i met Tarek rasouli who does a lot for the sport Worldwide and in Europe. The guy is now paraplegic from a mountain bike accident and he absolutely lives mtb and does a lot for up coming riders.

What’s your favorite section of Farkin and why?
I’d have to say my favourite section would have to be post your ride. I love because you see some truely tasty builds out there and some great inspiration.
Besides i love seeing some of the products i send to remote shops all around australia and new zealand and find them posted on farkin's post your ride section.
I love the parts and stuff section for the amazing amount of bullshit that is sprayed by members who's mates dad’s snapped his bar end while riding to work and absolutely spreading bullshit on the net.
What is your job, and the most interesting thing about
it?
Well at the moment i’m fully invested in ROULER IMPORTS. It is a project that started about a year ago now. Rouler imports is the result of a combination of hating my office job at the time and feeling of wasting my time, being enfatuated by bikes and meeting the right people at the right time.
When i started the company the most exciting thing about it was getting people to buy my products but as time goes i found a deep interest in helping out up and coming riders to get to an international level (thinking of our NPJ riders samuel gardner and ashley grundy). I really enjoy being part of their ascension in the sport and i plan on doing a lot more for them in the future (such as finding them international sponsors along with the ones they currently have (sic usa and NPJ).
Once in a while i get a real kick when someone congratulates me for doing the right thing in the industry and that really makes me want to work harder and bring more things into australia (i have so many ideas i want to exploit).
So how long have you been ridding and why did you
start?
One mild day after eating cheese and surrending the knife to my best mate we realized we had run out of bread so it was a race to who could get the fastest to the local boulanger(baker) to get a baguette with our beret on.
In 92 my best mate had just gotten a cool lapierre dual suspension, i used to be in bikes but only with the purpose of going to mates places as i grew up in the country and everything was far away. Anyway we used to do massive cross country rides and the love grew. I got my first real mtb which was a full chromo Sunn Bicycle with full lx equipment but no suspensions and the upgrades started from there. Soon enough we discovered that what we loved most about out rides was single tracks and downhills but never acted upon it as our country side wasn't all that hilly. So
Long trail rides in the wilderness or short stints on your local trails?
I used to love long trail rides and admitedly i would love to give those massive enduro races in Europe a shot but i think i enjoy having more fun jumping stuff and being on my dh bike. So for the last few years it s been about the local trails(dh and dj in fact)
Ford or Holden?
BUGGER THAT ! They both suck. I'm all for germans cars. Once you drive a porsche carrera 4 gts you don't see anything else on the roads.
Whole Milk or lite?
Never noticed the difference. I prefer cheese. I'm a heavy milk drinker and i don't really care what it is.
Last time you were approached by the police?
Fined speeding coming back from stromlo towing a massive trailer with about 10 bikes in the back of it….aaarrrggggghhhh

- I assume this photo is from one of the legendary Sydney night street rides. [DM]
Best and worst MTB moments?
Lets start by the worst :
Dislocated ankle in paris while doing a manual after installing a brand new hayes brake that hadn t bedded in. Going to work on a downhill in middle of paris and ksnap and we’re talking foot being completely facing the opposite direction. Worst part was putting it back together no drugs. Drugs are good when hurtin..
Best moment on mtb:
Every single time i get on my bike with a good bunch of blokes on any given race events or roaming the streets.
Oh yeah i remember that day vividly when i was in san francisco when i was 18 doing this tour on a hired specialized bike on my own riding over the golden gate bridge until the cranks snapped…. Bloody specialized. So much fun none the less.
Were you surprised when Graves won the Champs last week? Who did you expect to win and why?
To be honest during race run for the elites i was passed out in the car listening to classical trying to sleep off my crash as for those who remember i crashed heavily over the rock jump. But the result doesn't surprise me as Jared is an amazing rider to watch but in my opinion if Sam and Nathan hadn't crashed the cards would have been dealt differently. I really expected Sam to win. For some reason he never ceases to impress me.
How do you see the Aussie mountain bike scene changing in the future?
Well being a bit in the know from friends here and there, as far as NSW and DH is concerned i think we will reach an amazing level of organizations for these state series. I know the guys are gearing up to have a dialled series.
I can honestly say that there is an outcry from all the dirt and street riders for more underground competitions to be held for them to shine which is why we see all our good street/dirt riders heavily represent Australia all around the globe with an amazing style.
I’m working on it..
As far as 4x is concerned i think AMX (robbie and glen jacobs) are contributing in a huge way and are promoting this event which as a lot to show for.
I would love to see dual slalom reappear again on a side note.
When will you stop riding, and why?
The day i get too fat from eating cheese.
Who would you like to hunt down with a paintball gun?
Jean marie lepen, George w. , johnny(he’ll be back sooner than you think) Bets already are on 2years, and finally goats/cows to make more cheese.
Who would you love to see on a Nicolai?
Hahahaha that s way too easy :
Mr lahar, no skid marks, Sam hill, Nicolas Vouilloz.
