I'm still thinking about it, but if I make the trek up there I will be riding SOLO! If my surpot crew can make it that is :P
Anyword on what the track is ment to be like.... I'm hoping something simular to the Kona 24 Hour, now that was fun..... The Six hour the week after looks like a hoot too; Ballan's super 6 track was awesome, I'm hoping it's something simular; not as muddy of course, Because I want to actually drink my water this time :P

Maybe I will solo it, I'm still trying to arrange some transport up there though; should be great if I can make it though... If you see me out on course stop for a chat; I'll be the dead one under the tree :P
Seriously though, If I can ridde 5 / 6 hours ralitively non stop, with a few drink brakes (for Coke 8) ), repair work etc.... I will be very happy! :D

Well, I've confirmed for Saturday and it looks like Mick will be working in the shop unless he gets a fill-in. No matter, we have a team together anyway.
So, who else will be there and what will you be riding?
Does anyone have suggestions on what to bring (other than bike, helmet and beer of course!)

I hope the weather and pace aint too hot though
well the pace shouldn't be that bad cause alot of the elite riders are at wildside in tassie :D and the weather is meant to be raining. :(
LordNikon
28-01-2004, 09:13 AM
I think we're gong to find the pace is very fast to begin with.
It's a 6.7 km loop so it'll be easy to keep the pace pretty high for at least the first few hours.
hippy
28-01-2004, 01:02 PM
Hey, do any of you guys know what the course is like?
I've seen the map, but what about some general impressions?
Anyone ridden it? Anything like the 24hr? Castlemaine? Dandys?
cheers!

Apparently it's similair to the XC National round that was held there. I've never raced there but we'll be heading out there for practise ride on Friday so I'll post a blow by blow on friday night.
That weather forecast sounds pretty good to me.

6.7km thats way too short IMO, I hope the course is rally fun filled then; there goes the stratagy of single lap stints... I recon 3 or 4 lappers, be at the transition every 3rd lap, incase?
I was half expecting a 20km, rocky as all fuck course, with road gaps etc.... :P I hope it's fun though... LN we going to go flat knacker till the fat person sings aye? :P

Ill be there now- managed to get 1 day off from work at the tennis- not racing though- i will probly be in the timing tent for most of the day, so please come and say hi as i would really like to put a faces to names on here!!!
Grover
29-01-2004, 10:12 AM
yeah, the course is basically the same as the national round except that first fireroad climb is out for some extra singltrack, which is of course very good.
Okeedokey... well I expect LOTS of Farkiners to come say G'day in the GripSport tent. Got a few new products and some examples of frame repairs to see.
ALSO... after my comments in various threads about ANYTHING being fixable the Farkin crew have thrown down the uglies challenge I've EVER seen in the form of a really REALLY damaged Giant that they've DARED me to try and fix.
So if you want to see what sort of bastards actually run this site (they really are sick... this frame is FARKED) come see it on Saturday.

Right, more training required.
I think we came in 18th in the Men's Pairs, happy with that but would definitely like to get into the top ten.
Big ups to the guys and girls who won their categories, especially those solo guys, that's just plain hardcore. Also to the organizers / sponsors etc, thoroughly enjoyed the event and I'll be back next year if there's another one.

well it's sunday morning after the race and i can hardly type cause my hands and fingers are too sore. my mate and i did 17 laps and finished 6th in men's pairs. we were second after three hours but i guess the lack of experience of two 17 year olds sort of meant we were going to hard and just went down hill from there. oh well, a year minus a day till we do it again.

Well done mate.
I must say, it was rather hard on the SS as the track didn't allow any spots for us to spin our legs. It was pretty solid stomping the whole way around...gee my knees are sore.
Big congrats to ALL who rode... what and effort!
Good day had by all from what I saw. I also got to meet Lord Nikon and Culbaire which was a bonus.
Cheers

We'll it's the day after; and surprissingly I aint too sore, not like after the 12 or 24 hour races :P Maybe I could have rode harder, but I did ride every section of the course once, even those hills that seems bastardly imposable. I ended up doing 6laps...The Last lap was forsure the best, the end of the lap started to dry up abit :D The rest of they day was like a big slimey glue pot :?
I didnt get to snap many pics, but I got a few so here they are:

LordNikon
01-02-2004, 10:21 PM
Give your chain/cassette a really good clean and lube dude.
Did mine today, scrubbed it so it looked all brand new, then lubed it up and it all works fine. Except for the derailleur hanger that's bent so far forward that I can't get the rear wheel off.

well i had a reasonably boring day in the timing tent. except for the couple of guys we yelled at who forgot to get of and walk. When we yelled they panicked and fell off instead. That was a bout the only real action i got to see though.
Was a bit dissappointed that none of you came over and said hi. Although it was good to put same face to the names on here again. I figured out a couple of people...

How icky was all that mud! :)
My bike is still on the back seat of the car semi-caked in the stuff.
We came second in the Corporate 6's thanks to some awesome riding from Ash, Chris, Dan. Nick, Billy and myself did pretty good I thought considering the conditions (and how much I ride mtb! i.e. bugger all).
I only did two laps and I'm still sore today! MTB'ing really shows you how many different muscles you use compared to road riding! Ow!
Big thanks to Rohin and all the other organisers for such a cool event! Maybe I'll train for the next one :)
Culbaire (and others): I have some (250+ actually!) photos from the race. I'm in the process of editing some of them and will hopefully get them up onto the web soon. I'll post here to let you know when and where.
cheers for a fun race dudes!

Well I run singlespeed and still had drivetrain probs.
Broke the spring in my tensioner (for the 5th time, who wants a singulator, 1 month old?)....replaced it with a rear mech after running the last kilometre of the course to the finish line. I had 25 mins to find a rear mech..the one i found had no barrel adjuster on it so I booty fabbed the cable back through the pinch bolt.
My brand new Race Face BB has loads of crap in it....by the end of the race I had bronken the rear deraileir too....
All fun and games!
hippy
02-02-2004, 07:43 PM
I've been running the original derrailer that came with the '96 Talera as a tensioner for months now and I've had no problems.
Are you sure you haven't set it up wrong?
What is the chainline like on your bike?
I'm not doubting your constant breakages, they just sound strange and possibly preventable - most people seem to be able to run Singulators or derrs with no probs..???
Or, when you say "broke", do you mean you smashed it on something?

LOL.Was that you that said go Aaron or keep going Aaron, after my first lap (I was number 223)? I'm thinknig to myself, where have I seen this chick before?... I was considering hanging around the timing tent for a while, there seemed to be some "quality" in the ranks there :P
I bearly had time to scratch my ass on race day, my team mate was sooooo much faster than I, as usual, dont leave for much of a brake. Ohhhwell!

the blonde/s were rohins (fatties president) sisters. I was the one with the british bandana on, green everlast hoodie. I spent the day huddled in a big red chair trying to stay warm, in front of the computer-typing in your numbers as you went past. It made a great change from the tennis- sitting down for 8h as opposed to standing up for 16!!!

Hippy, singulators dont like tension. The springs break where they bend 90 degrees. I like tension and therefore they break. If I run them loose so they last, the chain falls off on the rear cog.
The rear mech was a bit stuffed anyway, but the mud finished it off.
Chainline...is good.
hippy
04-02-2004, 09:23 AM
LordNikon - Sorry, I don't know what you look like, otherwise I would've tried to shoot you (with the CAMERA!) ;)
CulBaire - I only saw you around the transition area - it's really hard to recognise people on bikes.
I have heaps of shots of other riders because when I finished (and the sun came out!) I sat near the track and just shot until my memory cards were all full.
Singlespeeder - It sounds to me like you are running it too tight. I don't know why the chain would jump off with it set "nice" but having it so the chain doesn't move up and down at all (when pushed in the middle) will just ruin your driveline HEAPS quicker.
Could something be bent? That might be the cause of the thrown chains when you back the tension off?
hippy
singlespeeder
04-02-2004, 02:10 PM
No it's not to tight. Nothing is bent. Chainline 100% straight. I ride hard, do a bit of trials and fast chittery singletrrack. Trust me mate, I have tried backing off tension...chain goes off. Turn it up, good bye spring.
Who cares anyway...I bought an old skool KORE Chain Reactor to run on it now.
