G'day fellow farkers! This time around we are meeting a member of farkin who is well known for his exploits on the South Australian free ride scene. You've all heard his name around the traps..........Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Heppy!

Heppy! (http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t317/dhdozer/IMG_1492.jpg)

Who are you? (Name, age, job etc)
Alan Hepburn, 20, build jumps for a livingJ.

Why did you become a member of Farkin?
Because I have an obsessive-compulsive disorder to do with bikes so when it’s to dark to ride I come here and just browse around, so I figured I’d join up.

What’s your favorite section of Farkin and why?
Phat snaps/ Phat vids, its just cool to see what people in other states are doing and what sort of things they ride. I’m not the biggest tech head when it comes to bikes so I don’t normally hang around the parts n’ stuff area. The Off topic section is pretty random sometimes so that’s good.

What would attract riders to your area?
Well Adelaide in general is pretty lucky because a lot of the riding spots are close to the city And Eagle MTb park just opened up so that’s pretty fun to ride. For my local area which is 45mins away from the city I have put a lot of hours in to building a jump spot and freeride spot close to home, so if anyone came down to my area then they would have some fun stuff to ride, also just finished my foam pit that’s pretty killer.

Indian Air (http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t317/dhdozer/Alan-Indian-Air.jpg)

You have a fair interest in free riding. What makes it so special for you as opposed to riding DH or XC?
Well for starters I can’t do up hills so that rules out XC, and it just hurts so screw that. DH to me just seems like the same old thing; I still like to DH and just rip trails with buddies but cant focus enough on it to race. Freeriding is always changing and combined with tricks provides endless possibilities. And the progression in Freeride always makes you want to go bigger or learn harder tricks.

What bikes are in your stable?
Just 1 bike for me, 07 Banshee Chaparral, It’s an awesome bike lets me ride anything I want from DH to tight jumps or big HUCKS. Got a talas36 fox fork on the front and a fox air shock on the back so I can adjust it all rock hard or super soft.

Do you have a super qualified mechanic or do you do all of your own spannering on your gear?
I do a bit off “spannering” on my gear but generally that is why I have to go to a real mechanic. But normally I just put up with whatever is wrong on the bike, as long as it still rides good. Mr. Grant Allen would be my bikes savior though when things get rough.

What is your definition of art?
A 14inch wide chicken schnitzel with pizza topping and a foundation of chips.

Flipper! (http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t317/dhdozer/alanflip.jpg)

What shoes do you ride in?
The best $40 shoes in the world, HUMANS J.
Just ask Nicho he knows how great they are.

Best and worst MTB moments?
Best- first run I did down A-line at whistler or whenever I learn a new trick.
Worst- any crash that put me of the bike for more then a week.

What car to you drive (if you have one) and why?
I spin around in a rally combo, ford falcon (gold), Christian van and a hi-lux Ute. Just ask Grant, Pirate, Chris or DJ they look after them for me hahahaha. Nah I don’t drive, yetL

How do you see the Aussie mountain bike scene changing in the future?
As far as freeride and dirt jumping go it will get bigger for sure, after seeing last years Crankworx slopestyle in person there’s a bunch of us that could shake the top ranks in those sorts of comps. And I think when the biking world see that Aussie’s can kill it in FR/DJ scene like they do in DH then will see some big comps migrate over here when its there winter and our summer.
Then again I'm not a fortuneteller so I really got no clue.

What are your thoughts on the emo scene?
Funny over sensitive baby Goths that need attention but good on them, it takes a man to wear girl’s jeans.

Football and chicks drinks! (http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t317/dhdozer/foozballandchicksdrinks.jpg)

What tricks are you going to throw down in Whistler?
Don’t know, something super duper maybe. Recently built a foam pit in my back yard so there’s heaps of stuff already in the works. Lots of upside down stuff and other hard stuff. Depends on the course they build I guess. Chris is coming over as well so that will help both of us as it will be just like riding at home.

Who builds the best stuff in your area?
I’ll say the EV crew does only cause we build exactly what we want to ride so to us it’s the ultimate. But everyone builds differently to suit there riding styles so it’s impossible to say who is the best. Although here in Adelaide there are bugger all builders considering how many people ride, so where like a dying breed that never dies.

Are you a weight weenie?
Hell yes, no seriously I am and it makes a difference having a light bike to ride, its like instant progression sometimes. Some people might say its all in the rider not the bike, but dam just having a lighter wheel set makes barspins, t-whips and style so much easier. Got the chaparral down to 35-36lb and can still lose more, The new wildcard frame from banshee will get it down to 32lbJ.

What music is in your CD player at the moment?
Well I got an ipod (no surprise) and pretty much listen to anything with a good beat.
Some of my favorites artists’ at the moment are:
-Sage Francis
-Muse
-RJD2
-50cent (for getting crunk yeah)
-Tokyo police club
-Parkway drive

If you were a politician, what is the first thing you would change in Australia?
I’d just kick myself in the head for becoming a politician.

Oh and build a Woodward MTB style park with 4 different slopestyle course’s and a manmade Utah hill for the real freeriding. Also a jump park with 50 jumps in a row and a chairlift to get u to the start again.

What are your hobbies apart from being around bikes?
Mini motorbikes are fun but that’s a sort of bike still dammit.
Drunken poker is pretty rad.
Bikes are the best though.

Tell us a joke……..

I'm sure we'll all be hearing a lot more about Alan in the future and we wish him all the best. Keep the progression coming Heppy!

Good read. I have seen Alan riding before and he is an absolute legend and is chilled out. Also he maintains a lot of dirt jumps in the Adelaide area which I know is greatly appeared with the riders. It would be good to see more Alan out there.
