View Full Version : All Terrain Riding Comps
I could probly e-mail MTBA about this but this is better, gives more of a convo point and people can put there ideas in............. any way just wondering how a local club would go holding an All Terrrain Moutain bike event not like a national sized event or even state event. just an amiture thing that every one can ride. Probly would take a hell of alot of work and brain power to make a course hard enough for experienced riders but easy enough for newbies to hit up....
Also for the likes of our clib there is like 3 - 4 locals who would be willing to hit up any thing even slightly more rougher than XC. so fro us we'dd have to have it fully advertised so that others can think about making a trip for the rides..... dunno throwing around some ideas for a sick hill at the clubs desposal. what do you peeps think???

i'm reckoning that maybe have one course for all, but maybe split it in 2 sections in some areas, so people take the track that suits their skill level best. maybe.
but then i'm thinking judging or sumthing RED BULL RIDE style. like most people know if sombody has riden a section with more skill than sombody else so its not like you need a pro freerider to judge but... it would be hard to get enough for two lines that go for around 3 km or a bit less. i guess you copuld do it like a DH race spliting people into classes and you parctice your course in your class then ride at your given time and allocate judges a position on each course.
You don't want the judging to be too subjective though.
Maybe, like 3 lines per obstacle, each one has points allocated, and then you have other factors such as putting the foot down, deviating from the set line, amount of time spent lying on the ground in a crumpled heap etc, would all add/deduct points.

The western Sydney MTB club are holding a freeride competition on (i think) the 22nd of feb.
It is being held on their DH race track at dargle.
All the details are on their website- www.wsmtb.com
Try go along to that and u should be able to get an idea of how you would go about running a similar sort of event.
hope this helps.

Yeh i think red bull ride style is the best way to go. The red bull ride courses were only around 1km long remember. I think 3km is abit full on and would just make it alomost impossible for judges to see the whole runs. I'd try to find a reasonably open hill, which has an area to view most of the course for the judges and possible extra judges just for certain sections that arn't viewable. I would say u would only need one course but broken up into sections which have 2 or 3 line choices ranging from easy to hard. I definately don't think a course with only one line could work very well, that would mean everyone would have to be good enough to clear the whole course and would make judging harder. U could have only one line a few sections i guess and just have a nothing line around the section.

The WSMTB Freeride comp is on Sunday 22nd and is a practice day on the 21st. Have a look at http://www.farkin.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=145857#145857 for more info.
Dargle is about half an hour north of Richmond, north west of Sydney. You can find detailed directions at http://www.wsmtb.com/directions.html

just break every thing down, ok you build Stunt A, Stunt B, and Stunt C...
now lets break down riding ability, 1 being begining, 4 being expert...
so Stunt A has 3 posable ways to be riden to cater for ability, so you have line 1, line 2, and line 3 (4 is the X factor, like a rider gaping the whole stunt or somthing unexpected). After a rider has compleated stunt A, how does it transition to Stunt B? obviously they should flow together to give direction (ie lets not have line 1 from Stunt A flowing directly into Line 3 of Stunt B...) but you would make so all lines to be accessable.
Lets say one of the Stunts is a steep rocky shoot.
Line 1=5 points
Line 2=10 points
Line 3=15 points
X fact=15+ juges choice say an extra 2 points
Crashing, smoothness, foot down would all be deducted points.
can you tell iv been thinking about this too?
