Just looking for your opinions of these two cranks. The Xt's are about twice as much as the LX's but they appear to be just as strong.. jsut not as light. Anyone had any experience with either of these cranks and how they perform/any other feedback?
From what I've heard, they're almost identical except for the weight? I think Gutty beat the shit out of some LX's and they held up alright, ask him about it.

Also, is the Lx and XT bolt patern 104pcd or is it that funkity one like the XTR cranks?

The LX cranks are sooo good. I ran them for 2 years on my deight with no troubles. Stong, light, cheap what more could you want.
haha i was going to say .. lindsay is the LX guru .. but you already posted.
Im going to look into a set soon myself .. when these truvativ hunks of sheet .. fall off my bike.

Agree completely. Mine are 3 years old, been used for everything from XC to DH. No complaints at all.

go the LX, i've been running a pair on my dh bike and a pair on my xc bike for 2 years, no problems.
can't see the value in XT cranks.

I have used both carnks and for downhill and freeride where weight is less of a concern I would be picking up the LX.
At the end of the day neither crank is indestructable... If you crack the XT's (which happens... trust me) you are going to be a lot more pissed than if you break the LX's.
When setting up any downhill/freeride rig I always consider initial outlays and replacement cost.
For the cost I would possibly recommend checking out the Raceface northshore DH.

how much are the lx's? can you buy a pair of lx splined cranks as just the arms? and if so how much, by the way i live in vic
hardtail free rider, you gotta remember that shimano octalink spline is different to the isis standard spline.

NO, about the only similarity is the fact that both have splines, the sizes are way different.
i hate to say it but octalink is probably better than isis, many people are having problems with the bearings in the isis standard (too small) and the octalink seems to be holding up better.
shimano are pretty smart ill give them that....

But on the other hand, I've been hearing of more broken octalink spindles than ISIS ones... we just can't win, can we!
we just need a bigger BB cup size so we can have big bearings and big spindles too.

You know how i hit my bashring with a big steel bar and it put a little chip in it ?! Bent my shimano(XT i think) BB in the process. Not that this means much as thats not quite normal riding.............carry on.

yeah, but isn't that still in the concept stage? i've heard chris king wont make an isis spline BB untill they bring out a bigger cup size.

Hahahahahaa "Look at my indestructible bashring.... and my apparently pissweak BB... aw crap."

I wouldnt go with shimano. I had shimano deore cranks ( 1 step below lx), and they fell off my bike after about 7 months of having them. I would go with block 8 or Profile, thats what I have now.
