less is more. keep it short, and leave the crap on the cutting room floor.

90 seconds finished to a high standard is a lot of work. remember, this comp is about quality, not quantity. feel free to release your "extended directors cut" after the comp has finished!! :D

there is nothing in the officiol rulews that say it has to be a mountainbiking movie! all that the rules state is that niether "pro's" or judges can submit videos. and as far as judging it says that it has to inspire you to go riding; i ride bmx and i still get inspired to go riding after watching a mountain bike movie.

as long as the video features riding shouldn't it be considered for judging?!?!?!?!?!?! and anyways this website has a BMX FORUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it being judged more on the quality of the film being put together (editing, music choice and such) or the quality of the riding?

Some decent riding would be nice, but does it have to be people going huge and fast to win?

* Originality (so people don't reproduce someone else's video with slight variation)
* Inpspiration to ride (how much does this video make me want to ride)
* Film quality (no you don't never to go and buy the latest HD camera, just try and hold a steady hand, and keep the exposure under control).
* Editing (synching to soundtrack etc)
* Overall coolness

No, you don't need to go and recruit your local pro for this one. Some cool angles of you or your mate carving up your local trail will just about do as much as a pro hitting some jumps.

What editing program are you using? The most common way to go is file>export>and then some sort of compressor.

I'm obviously not able to say for sure, but I think you'll find that in any other film contest if there is a time limit, there is a time limit, end of story. The rules are the rules, I'd suggest obey them.

If your not within the criteria, you're not within the criteria. Simple as.

Free to use any track we like or do we have to make sure they are royalty free (free to public use), not if that is the right term, but you get what I'm trying to verbalise.

Dude - the rules say it has to be between 90 seconds and 120 seconds. I don't get why people think that's negotiable?

It also says that the Top 5 may be able to enter a slightly longer version... So make your 2 minutes good enough to get yourself into the top 5! ;)

Yes, you only have access to upload your clip, you can not delete other clips or overwrite them (i.e. your own). just re-name it and let Scott know what happened.

I'm getting a little worried - with 12 hours till competition closes i don't want to find out tomorrow it didn't work. Mine was named 'Farkin Video - Essence of Street'.

- Drag and drop the video from the left hand side on your computer to the right hand side on the farkin server. The transfer will begin. Depending on how big your video is it will take a while. Please name the video file your as your Farkin username. This will help in sorting prior to judging.

Mine is wmv also, quiktime was giving me the shits, sure nice looking video but lowest I got was 150MB, my wmv looks just as good at 40MB. I don't really have time to experiment with different render settings anyway.

That's a listing of the directory as it stands. For file sizes remember that 1,000,000 is slightly less than a Mega Byte. Eg. 36000000 is about 35MB. All the movies uploaded so far appear to have worked (ignoring the ones that have been uploaded multiple times).

Mine is under 40mb, but is 14seconds over time....it's the credits. So hopefully no diqualification there

With regards to file sizes, the rules are there but they won't be enforced with a nazi fist. Just try and keep to the guidelines, but don't stress if they're a little over.

This is a great idea by the way! :D :D and for all those having trouble getting video size down I got my movie in at a high resolution using the Xvid .avi format. I found it works heaps better than .mov. When I used Xvid it ended up only being about 12mb, but the same vid encoded using quicktime ended up being about 180mb.

And for next year has the farkin crew considered getting the video's uploaded in Flash Video format, there are a lot of free encoders for it and it compresses the video well, a two minute vid can be compressed to less than 10mb and its good for streaming etc.

get your videos small, and looking good. quicktime utilises the H264 codec, which is what DVIX uses... more or less....

Quicktime has a plethora of compression options. You just need to know how to use compression software... There is so much to learn about using compression. I thoroughly recommend to anyone who is interested in getting good at editing of compression to start exploring the info on the web.

pretty sure... it should have a movie style count down at the start with a burned looking still shot as the background with two sections on it, both of Josh McDonald. One is a fast open track he is wearing black. The second is a huge gap jump where he is wearing full body armor and a blue racing top...

should be either one of the bold ones... the others were uploaded before I realised it was one entry per person. Sorry bout that.

man ... looks like alot of work.. Maybe each person can upload to youtube and just send you the link and we vote from there? or maybe another video hosting place. or something.. so everythings one format and you don't have to work so hard...
or Have the bulk of the videos uploaded to youtube to start with.. then once the top 5 or whatever are picked.. Then they can submit their own format for better quality..... somerthing like that.

I've only watched a few, but my vote would definitely go to Gluey_trails.
Short and oh so sweet.
Tristans would be good but I find myself watching it and feeling like I've seen it all before.
