Hey All

Just got the lastest AMB mag....there is a review on The Oaks and St Helena's.

On the last paragraph it mentions that the National Parks advise that you cannot ride down to the river anymore....whats doing with that....is there a reason....its a great ride even though i hate the climb out.

Cheers

I pretty much collapsed from the climb out last time I did St Helenas. But I would rather climb out than ride back.

you must pay your dues....if you get 15km of nice and fast single track the MTB Gods say you must do some climbing.... doh

Technically you haven't been allowed to ride down St Helenas for a long time. Riding in NPs is only permitted on vehicle tracks and management tracks (ie fire trails not open to general traffic) and single track where expressly permitted in the Parks Plan of Management.

I rode it a couple of months ago and climbed out. Maybe it's more to do with liability issues due to having to cross the railway tracks on the way out ??

i dont cross the railway tracks....as you get to the railway tracks there is a track to the right which takes you down to a dry creek bed and then climb out with your bike on your shoulder....you eventually end up at a dead end street not far from the train station

yeppp more bike carrying.....
but for only 5 minutes....when u get to the creek bed you head right and go under a fallen tree....the track is then obvious... head up to a walking trail (about 20 to 30m) and then head right for about 2 minutes riding which will take you to the street.

a good ride if you want to do some training km's is to start at Glenbrook, ride UP the oaks to the St Helena turn off, turn right into St helena, ride down to the creek, turn around and head back, turn left into oaks track and back to the start. Good training km's with a fair few hills both up and down.

Did St Helenas yesterday.

Sweet singletrack it is...one of the better trails out there

But the scramble down the gorge (some bits were rideable but doing it solo at dusk...), the ride through the creek, the scramble up the gorge, the riding alongside the train track, the getting thick gunky industrial grease on my rear tyre and it being sprayed all over my bike, the climbing over the fence at the bridge, the one hour wait for the train (1 was about 2 min late!!!!)...

All in all a good ride to do early morning with others (and preferrably with a dually...)
