Howdy people
I am heading down to the ACT/north Kosi NP/ snowys in the weeks before the Scott with my family and I am after some info about some rides in the area. I already know about some of the places close to canberra ie; majura sparrow hill, etc... but I was wondering if there was any good rides around tantangara, the blue holes, currango area. I went on a horse trek through there a few years ago and remember seeing a few mtbkers about. Fire road stuff is cool as I may have my young bloke with me on his tag along. I'm just hoping to keep the legs spinning in the lead up to the 24's so sub 40ks is what I'm after. All help appreciated, cheers.

PS; Does anyone know if you can camp at sparrow hill on non race days?:)

Closer to Canberra, but still south is Old Boboyan Road, Mt Clear, Naas Valley, all in the ACT down in Namadgi Nature Reserve. There's lots of nice linking firetrails that get little use and make for some nice loops in sub alpine forest.
Down in the northern Snowy Mountains there's lots of potential up from Rules Point, north to Blue Waterholes, Port Phillip fire trail, Tantangara etc. Just south of Rules Point is Yarangobilly Caves and thermal pool.

hey mate

There is some awesome riding to be had around the tantangra, blue water holes area. I have riden out from the blue water holes camp ground befor and headed toward old fields hut. If you get a map of the area just take off and you will be garentied a good ride...as long or as sort as you wish

Yes, you can - but you have to organise it yourself through ACT Forests and pay a daily charge. They will normally let you have a gate key to get your car in.

But - make sure you check with them about other events in these forests. Don't want to get tangled up in a car rally!

That might be fun.

In a car I mean.

go to a store that sells good maps and find some for the areas your going to and then plan a ride from there, some sugesstions from me would be; murrys gap, cotter hut, blue waterholes, mt franlkin and mt ginini. they are all very naice places some might be a bit hard but mt franklin can be made easy and it should be nice at this time of year, either snow or wild flowers.
p.s. your only alowed on fire roads, no sinlge track in national parks.
