just a quick question....
i put a gamut chain guide on a mates bike recently.is it just me or is supposed to be a little"noisy"?
its not too bad, just the chain running over the bottom roller.
is this normal and will it over time go away? my e13 is quiet as a mouse.
just want to put my mates mind at ease.

yeah thats normal with roller type chain guides the reason your e-13 is so quiet is because it runs on jockey wheels (like a tiny chain ring if you look) they (i think ) have bearings in them which makes them quieter
cheers (correct me if im wrong)

This extra "noise" I believe is perfectly normal. Someone about said its because its a roller chian device hes correct to a certain extent. Because the bottom roller is made out of some special hard plastic its louder than other roller chain devices with a soft rubber roller eg MRP ect...
Maybe if Ken from XXIV wishes to confirm;)
KEN where are you?

I'm here, I'm here!
Gamut's are actually very quiet once set up correctly, can be set up as quiet as anything else, I often get comments from people (including magazines and industry folk) that it is quieter.
The bottom roller runs on a sealed cartridge bearing which is larger than most and will keep it running quiet, the roller isn't made out of hard plastic either. It is durable and long lasting but still has some give and softness in it to reduce noise.
If the roller is making too much noise, i would check that you backplate is not rotated too far forward (generally your top guide should be horizontal to the ground) and also check your bottomer roller spacing, often people have it too close or too far away. There should be equal distance between the roller and your bashring.
The guide will also quieten down even more with more use as the roller beds in to your chain and the bearing smooths out.
Check out the installation guide: http://www.xxiv.com.au/tech/gamut-tech.pdf
If you are still having any issues, feel free to email me some pictures and I can help you set it up specifically for that bike.
Cheers,
Ken
