View Full Version : Depreciation
Selling my bike right. 2003 Kona stinky. How do you reckon you work out depreciation 30% a season plus cosmetic damage etc?

Zag... theres no formula for what you should sell it at. Advertise for the price YOU want and if theres no interest then you should probably drop a bit. If you arent in a rush, you should be able to sell it for a good price.
patience is the essence!

And just so you don't feel bad if it doesn't sell quickly, remember... sometimes everybody has all the gear they need at the moment or not many available funds, and will only bother making a purchase if something is stupidly cheap and a mistake to pass up... even if they already own it.
There are LOTS of good deals going on in the trading forums, but very little moves quickly. And if it sells FAST, usually that's because there's someone who needs that specific thing NOW (or it's a reeeeeally good buy).
Palladium has good advice. Put it up for sale, but don't be anxious about it. If you think it's too much, give a full description of the item you're selling, some background history on it, and a few photos, and ask what you think you might get for it.
Good luck!
My random formula for depreciation: 50% for the first year and 10% per year after that.
But there are so many variables, that this is an incredibly loose guide. And I base it off medium-heavy usage of the bike.
The market is weird, like mentioned above. People won't impulse buy unless it's an absolute bargain, so set what you want for it, and get a feel for what people want and how much they wanna spend. Really, it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it, so you just have to find that someone ;)
