Heyhey, just met up with a couple of the local boys (rockyash, dazonic, j5ive) from rockhampton, Central qld on the weekend and the showed me and my mate a track called “The Dog” down Mt Archer – now I’m used to cootha runs etc that generally last a few minutes….this track is huge in comparison – I think the record is 13:10 and its is all downhill (save a short ~50 m uphill about ¾ down). The best bit is that is has full road access so you can shuttle from the very top to the very bottom.
Whats the longest tracks out there in other parts of oz? We’re talking purely singletrack with everything from rock and root infested parts, eroded chutes, off camber sections, jumps, a road gap, berms, tight steep techy to open flowing.
(as an aside I’ll add in that on the road gap on saturday dazonic came up a bit short on the large gap and his whole front end from just behind the headtube forwards snapped clean off as he landed – relatively minimal injuries but shizzle my nizzle it was the biggest crash I have ever seen in real life!)
I was told while in Mt beauty that there is a 10km pure DH track, the last km (or so) of which made up the 2003 nationals track
But i have no wqay of verifying the truthfulness of this statement

Yeah , Big Hill would be around 6 - 7 km's but its about 60% singletrack , 40% fire trail. Times were about 7 - 8 mins...
Big Hill is awesome, it would take time to build but you could have single track the whole way down.

Kuranda up at cairns is I'd say 95% rocky and rutted single track, it has a road you can use to shuttle all the way to the top, and it took me I think around 8 minutes to get down on my hardtail, and around 5 or 6 mins (I think?) for the fella I was with on his dually.
Downhill almost the whole time, couple of short flat or slight uphill.
If I lived in cairns it would be the first place I headed with my new DH bike thats comin' in a few weeks.

When I last raced it Big Hill at beauty took me just over 10 minutes. Thought I was going to die at the bottom. It's an awesome track though.

yeah ho chi min is the longest track ive ridden, rode it with mick and miles and ck a few years back, its pretty much all down hill bar a few flat bits and small sections where you have to get off and fight through scrub. its starts in full on rainforest and ends up in this grassy bushland and has everything else in between, micks dad drove us and we did 3 runs on it! crazy track, also robsons in cairns is pretty long as well...

In my uni days, we used to do the Baringthon Downhill Dash.
Basically got dropped off somewhere ontop of Barington Tops and rode down about 1000m to get back to our rendezvous.
The biggest and longest was from Gloster tops which was about 1100m over 13km on firetrail. Most fun was 900m over 11km. Two absolute disasters both resulting in us being flooded off course and flooded in.
Another nice run is about 5km off Mt Sugarloaf near Newcastle

damnit, the people that have been to cairns have already beaten me!!!! um yeah longest track i have ever riden is robsons, took me 40 minutes to get down with a shitted up front break, it stopped working about a minute into my run. you would not belive how slowly time goes when you are trying to get down it with no front break. was quite frustarating till i got used to it.

You can make some pretty damn long runs off mount wellington behind hobart, if you don't mind occasionally riding non-mtb access stuff since they started locking us out... its 1230m. You could ride pretty much all the way to sea level, I think the peak is like 10km as the crow flies from the sea... There was one we did which obviously ended up with street riding, but it went from the peak to the sea with very minimal uphill sections for about 37kms, probably at least 1/2-3/4 was off road, and a big amount of that was singletrack...
I used to have a 7min or so run behind where I lived at the uni residences here, but it was incredibly slow and technical rather than long (bits were like downhill trials)..

Is this the old Sugarloaf racetrack? If so there's some access issues with it being on private property. If not PM or post direcions :D .
