O.k, to save myself hours of tedious researching, can someone confirm what extra costs I might be looking at to remove my single crown QR forks & fitting new or s/hand triple crown forks with 20mm thru axle.
From what I can gather, assuming the steering tube length, etc is correct, I should just be up for a new 20mm front hub? ..& a re-spoke by my LBS & possibly a brake adapter..? Maybe also a new stem if the new forks are direct mounts..?
Do I have everything, what have I missed..?

The only thing you've missed is the possibility of different sized HT and ST (Headtube and Steerer tube). Other than that, you're all good.

Which frame are we talking here?

I can't think of too many bikes that come with a singlecrown QR fork, and a warranty that'll cover the use of triples.

Adding 'new frame due to headtube explosion' to the shopping list is no fun.

Norco Sasquatch? Few of them came with 150mm Drop Off IV forks. They are QR. Even something likea Kona Coiler...reasonably long travel but equiped with QR forks...i think there would be a few actually...oh well..

Yeah my Coiler came with QR single crowns, and it can take big forks, wouldn't put a triple on but I think it's ok.

I would suggest buying a 2nd hand 20mm wheel and selling your current wheel, saves you the cost of labour, plus you can get prebuilt mailorder wheels pretty cheap.

Its an 06 black diamond frame which I am building up to a more DH specific rig. Its very similar to the ECD frame, so Im no worried too much about headtube weakness.
Does anyone know if Hayes Soles will bolt up to say a Boxxer Race/Team or 888 fork..? Otherwise the brake upgrade might be considered at the same time.

Yes, Hayes sole will mount on triple clamp fork, you just got to make sure the hose length is long enough obviously because of the fact that triples are longer than single crown forks.

As long as the hose is long enough and the adaptor is the correct size the hayes sole will mount.

because of the fact that triples are longer than single crown forks.

Please explain?

I have always thought for a same amount of travel that triples are shorter(just look at 66's and 888s or totoms and boxxers)

im just shit stirring :P

yeah, but he is unlikely to be moving from from single crowns to dual crowns of the same travel. he is moving up to 'something more DH', so its probably something longer.

And there were different iterations of the hayes sole. basically - if your soles came with a brake mount, then yes - they're interchangable. but if they didn't, and were in fact direct mount calipers, then they only work on six inch rotors without some concentrated mucking around with bolts and stuff.

for the black diamond frame, a mate of mine put a nice set of shermans with an upgraded cartridge onto his black diamond and it works really well. they're lightweight, a little longer than the singles, but not too long that they throw out the angles to much

What is the current fork? At last check, the lower models of them ran Manitou Stance (Post mount) or Drop Off IV forks (IS)...if your new fork is 20mm axeled, it will need the wider brake mount to account for this...Boxxers accept a different mount all together. Good luck mate!

I think you missed the big where I said I was shit stirring ;)

If you can spare the money I would be considering a brake upgrade from the soles, they are a very basic single piston brake, and even a upgrade to a juicy 3/5 or hayes 9 would be a huge improvement

Yes a brake upgrade is the next on the list, so If its too much farking around to fit the Soles then I think Juicys will go on instead.

The current forks are the standard Drop Off III's which are 150mm travel, so the new forks will have 20-50mm more travel, thus being longer. So I may be up for longer hoses then? If this is the case, the new brakes are looking even more ominous..
