What are your thought on this?

Trek 69er SS (http://www.trekbikes.com/au/en/bikes/2008/mountain_hardtail/69er/69ersinglespeed/)

The inverse mullet. It’s party in the front, all business in the back. With a 29" front wheel you get trail bike confidence, and the 26” rear wheel makes it race bike fast. Inspired by Travis Brown.

Looks like Trek are really big on the 69 scene! *giggle*
This is their 69 hardtail with 100mm Maverik USD forks, single speed and 6" rotors. There is also a 69 dually too. Do you think this is where mountain biking is going, with bikes like these?

Not looking at buying, just thought it was a very different way to approach a hardtail XC bike :)

Interesting idea................

Havent ridden a 29 incher but have read some reviews about decreased cornering speed compared to standard 26" so interested to see how this design would go

Looks like a stupid gimmick to me, put this in you sig to bag me if it becomes the future of mountainbiking:p

What is the point of that thing?
Upside down tripleclamps, mismatched wheel sizing...Its like a bad flashback to mid 90s tradeshows.

Interesting tube profiles, very "House of Merida"....

the wheels have a good idea to them, faster front wheel, stronger back wheel, same as the bighit but more xc/commuter orientated, looks a bit silly but im sure it would ride nicely, also those triples arent like boxxers or anything, more am/xc orientated I believe

that is one of the ugliest bikes i ever seen... although there have been far worse.

Ahh, don't you actually mean "bigger, flexier, heavier front wheel with fark all tyre choice which is really handy when its doing the steering" and "just the same type of rear wheel as most mountainbikes".

bigger wheels roll faster mate, and how often does your front wheel flex? Especially in am/xc use? You obviously know nothing about 29" wheels because there are actually a fair few 29" tyres out there

other manufacturers have already had a crack at it, viscious cycles for one, tho I can't find it on their website.

Actually, this design makes sense...
29" will roll over obstacles better, but 26" is lighter, so why not have the best of both.

In fact, the future of mountainbiking is right here;

All reviews i have read have been great for this ride :) As for 29r wheels being slow- tell that to three of my riding buddies who spank the shit out of most riders on the trails - and they ride laaarge hoops :D

I'm happy to ride a larger hoop up front anyday :)

Yeah I hadn't noticed my 26" wheel not rolling over obstacles though...Maybe I'm just adept enough to choose lines which work?

If there is 10% of the 26" tyre range available for 29ers I'd be amazed.

Wheel flex? Yeah for me it IS already noticeable with most 26" lightweight XC style wheelsets and could only be worse with 29" ones.

Its cynical marketing bullshit. Its even painted rootbeer.

Ever wondered what happened to the Specialized bikes that had the 24' wheel at the rear and the 26' wheel up front? Mmmmm.......

If it's just marketing, why are more and more mainstream manufacturers producing 29" specific frames / components? Also, looking on the US forums lime mtbr.com, the 29" forum is now the most popular forum for a while, so I think it's definitely moved out the fad stage and into part of cycling culture now.

Have to say I do own a steel SS 29" hardtail and a 26" full suss so I sit in both camps. Love both bikes too but can't say I'm an expert on comparisons though because the two bikes are poles apart. I can say though you can get wheel flex on 26" and 29" sets, so it more about suitability of parts than just the size. Personally I don't suffer from any such problems and I do notice the bike rolls great on flat and downhills once rolling, but it does take a little extra effort to get it going.

I saw one of these Treks in the flesh the other day and while I'm not a fan of the fork, I thought the bike looked great and I'd love a ride on it just to see.

I've never ridden a Maverick DUC32, but I do own an SC32 (the single crown version), and it's by far the stiffest, best tracking fork I've ridden. It's an XC/All Mountain fork, not DH.

The only reason that you don't see more of them is that a Maverick fork requires a non standard hub (also made by Maverick), 24 mm through axle, which is where the stiffness comes from.

Floody, don't knock em till you've tried em. Normally I'm getting a new bike every 6 months or so, I wont be selling the Maverick any time soon, it's just too good.

Anywho.... back on topic.

I like the idea, although I'm sure it'd take some getting used to to ride. For me it conjures an image of half a Commodore, and half a ferrari bolted together. :P

Maybe you don't even need suspension and pneumatic tyres if you're so damn adept? :p

Its cynical marketing bullshit. Its even painted rootbeer.

With your attitude to people trying new things, I'd reckon it's you that the cynic.
