There's already a thread on this, but the most recent one I could find was from 2005 so I figured it'd be better to start up a new thread; Basically i'm looking for some new headphones for riding, so they need to be comfy, stay on and of course produce good sound! Price doesn't really worry me.
Hit us up.

Not trying to be a smartass or anything - but is a hetlmet going to be an issue?
Because it's going to effect the styles you can have.
I'd recommend anything by Sennheiser personally - they always have a great sound and fit well, but can't really recommend any particular ones till you say if you want the ones that sit in your ear or the ones that go around it too.

And they are only $500! I have a set of sony ones which have a neck strap so no tension is put on the actual headphones so they never fall out. I've been riding with those lately and they are great.
the best ones i have found are the silicone style that fit inside your ear they produce great sound and bass and they cost about $80

canalphones.
these are spose to sound awesome for the price,

great site for all your headphone needs also.
I use Etymotic ER6i.
They stick right in your ear (you gotta ram 'em right in!) and once they're in they don't move. Because they fit so far inside your ear you can put a full-face on over the top if you're careful too.
Sound is fantastic especially when you cant really hear any outside noise.
Clearly very dangerous for riding in traffic or around things you want to be able to hear, but it's a pretty awesome feeling doing DH runs with them in. You can't even hear your own bike noise (not necessarily a good thing!).
Sure do some nice ones too as seen in the link posted up before.
These kind of things set you back about $150 from ebay. Totally worth it in my opinion though.
Just be safe :)
I have custom fitted(moulded) ear plugs and wires. See Earmould (http://www.earmold.com.au/content/blogcategory/23/35/) I have had mine for about 4 years and wear them everywhere. They are about $200 but the sound quality is great and I can guarantee them up to 310Klm/Hr with a full face on

Sennheiser CX300. Best you'll get for under $100 (and probs over $100 for a while).
Combine that with an awesome MP4 player, and you have a sick sounding portable music device :p.

Panasonic can ear phones.. I use them everyday and they are superb! They fit nicely into your ear, the sound isn't like sitting in a cinema but it is good enough and they block out the sounds around you only enough so that you can still hear cars while commuting etc.
By the way, I use them for commuting but never off road. I highly recommend them! They have a soft rubber earpiece and you bearly know you're wearing them.

There are snow board helmets that are designed to use cans not ear plugs.. Never enough bass with ear buds.I got a DJ helmet and a pair of cans (sony) with small profile band across the top and modified (dodgy I know) the inside of the helmet to take them. Fits perfect and very comphy. Ear canal dont sweat up like with buds. And lots of bass.

i beg to differ the silicon ones have exellent bass reproduction especially when they fit correctly.

I've worn a tonne of earphones riding. I wouldn't go Canalphone as the attenuate too much ambient noise. I've destroyed a bunch and not wearing a full face the good old Sonys get trashed and are the most comfortable buds. Seinheissers MX400?s were good as well but not as comfy. If you can't hear a stick in your spokes because your headphones block out too much noise then that ain't good.

My cousin got a pair of cheap Bang and Olufsen(Sp?) ones from a mate last year. They have the adjustability so the sit on your ear, and you can shape it to anyones ear. Really good sound, and top build quality too.
Great for Snowboarding as well.

You could always consider just going a helmet with stereos built in, may be handy because you ears arent totally blocked from other noise such as animals or a mate further up the track yelling "STOPP RIDEERRR etc etc etc"
Mace have an "bean" style helmet with inbuilt stereo's on either side and an ipod/mp3 jack built in, not quite sure what its called; the trigger solo or something like that? but easy to find on their website.
and its not that hard to make your own helmet with stereo sound, a friend of mine jerry-rigged his fullface to do pretty much the same thing as the mace helmet.

that would be rad!
i have found normal ipod (newest ones, they hold in your ear better) headphones are pretty good.
and they arnt expensive either.

Nah I only ride half lids/none. So full faced fitting isn't going to be a worry for me. I've ordered the CX300's anyways so we'll see if they're all they're talked to be!
Thanks guys.

Instead of making yet another headphones thread, I'll just ask here: Has anybody used/purchased the Bose QC2 or QC3 headphones?? I'll be purchasing one of the two soon, just can't decide which one. I'm leaning towards the QC2's as to me it looks like they might cancel the noise more effectively. I've tried both headphones out and everything and I will probably get the QC2's, but was just wanting to ask the opinions of those who have actually used them? Any help would be appreciated.

I have used both and while they sound good, I would never buy a set. Much better sound quality can be attained with cheaper/lesser known/not as well marketed brands. BOSE have a high profile name and I think that is why they can justify charging so much. Buy Grado or Alessandro if you want great sound, buy BOSE if you are looking for bling/pimp factor for da ladeez/peeps. My 2c.

If you can get your hands on a pair of sennheiser PMX 200, you will not be disapointed. I have been using these for a while now and l havent had a problem with them.
They are a neck band type, so no probs about the helmet you wear. They are also a "closed" system, which means no air noise while riding. Very light and have a "over ear" setup to stop them from sliding off.
Expect to pay anthing from $70-$100
Cheers

What??????????? maybe if you are talking about their big-arse noise cancelling headphones. I have a set of the new Bose in-ear style headphones. I ride to work with them on every day. they have awesome base and clarity. I was using some cheaper sennheisers and was looking at Shure which are THE SHIT but they are a little bulky for riding despite being earbud style plus 300 squid is a bit too much i think(plus they cut out too much outside noise). the bose are good because i can crank the volume and have clear sound but still hear important outside noise like car horns etc. Havent ridden with the fullface as yet but they are dead flat so it wont be a prob. They have silicone pads and come with 3 sizes in the box plus bose gives you free ones if you lose them. not bad for $100ish.

i seriously advidse against riding with earphones in. it impares your senses. especially if your on the road. you dont know if anything is heading your way untill its hit you.
BUT i would reccomend sennheiser in ears. i got me a pair and the sound is second to none. and they stick in your ears REALLY well. also they dont give you whistling noises when you got the wind in your hair.

Just got my GF some Beyer DTX50s for her iPod. I was surprised at the how good the dynamic range is but you gotta stuff those suckas in your ear pretty hard. No idea on wind noise but impressive sound quality VS money paid. Note: I got them wholesale (don't ask), which makes the deal even sweeter. ;)

Actually that would be a great thing for hemet companies to get into.
they have a pair of Oakley glasses with headphones attatched and an AV-In outlet sittuated on them.
So why not make a helmet that has the same capabilities. :D I'm a genius!!! :D That would be a great idea. Well if someone patents this atleast I can say I came up with the idea!!!! :D

Nope, was talking about the in ear ones. They are good, I did not say they weren't. What I did say is that there is better for the money. I would not recommend BOSE in ears to a friend so I would not recommend them to a stranger. And I get them at reduced prices...
Anyone interested in finding out about quality headphones should check out this site: http://www.head-fi.org/
Also I believe that someone has already referred to headphonic, but I will again recommend them. They have a lot of brands that many will not have heard of, but I trust that a bit of time spent on head-fi in conjunction with headphonic will see a happy customer, with a few spare pennies in their pocket.
Edit: For what it's worth too mate, he is asking about the 'big-arse noise cancelling headphones'

Proper canal earphones are great for music on the go, but seriously why would you wear them while riding?
No music is as sweet as the rushing wind noise you get from riding on two wheels, unless its an audio track containing rushing wind noises
... that and the fact that it'd be nice to hear a car's horn before feeling its windshield.
That aside, I've got a pair of Shure e2c that seem to be discontinued now, but they're great for listening in the office/bus/train.
Another vote for Headphonic, a large range of proper headphones, so give them a look.

I would not recommend BOSE anything to anyone, friend or foe. BOSE stands for "Buy Other Sound Equipment".

Yep, riding with ear phones seems silly to me too.
The click of the freehub and the noises of rocks flying, sticks snapping, chains slapping and mates stacking is part of MTB.
On the road riding with earphones is just asking for an early grave...

Hate to break it to you but its already been done. Mace I think made a helmet with speakers mounted in the side. It had a jack plug at the back of the helmet and came with a cord to go to your mp3. Not sure if they still make them.
