Not sure that I'd like to actually see any on MTB trails for many reasons but the workmanship and thought that's gone into it is pretty damn cool. Seems to be a better job than the http://www.fxbikes.com/ which some might have seen.

I'm sure Bill will love the free plug for Turner rear suspension as well.

Thats so cool, it looks sweet as. I'd love to see them take it down a dh track to see how nimble it really is. It would tear up the trails a bit.

is it classified as a motorbike or a MTB?

Youd have to think it would fall into the same category as those mini-motos. Hence riding on streets or crown/public land would be illegal.
NZ must have some less restrictive laws when it comes to riding un-registered vehicles.

saw something like that a while ago...i think that it is a bit of a waste of time but everyones different...you have to wonder though what is the point it will still handle like a motor bike with all that extra weight and extra gussets and what not keeping the frame strong enoguh so what is the point...it is really only a motorbike with a couple of mountain bike parts:)

If I remember correctly, it was reviewed in a moto mag a few years ago. John Kirkaldie was doing a fair bit of development work on it.

Pro' were: Less destructive on environment, a lot lighter.

Con's: Moto riders thought it still felt twitchy and unstable like a MTB, longevity of parts was in question.

Personally I would love a ride on one. It may well be just the type of Moto that I have been looking for all these years....

Can you bunny hop it????????? is it comparable weight to a trials bike?

I've read about them before in as well. They seemed to have a problem with trashing the wheels due to the spokes being too flimsy.

I'd imagine that problem is fixed now though.

Website says 57kg's.. nimble for a Moto, not nimble for a MTB.

Trials bike seems to be around the 65-70kg mark.

If only they weren't so expensive and I could get a test ride on one they might be on my shopping list for next year:(

It's an interesting idea... but I wouldn't buy one.

One thing that came to mind is why does it need to be so tall? The bottom of the frame looks to be at least 20" off the ground. As with MTBs, if the COG were lower, it'd probably corner better and feel more stable too.

Thanks for that dcrofty! It looks fun thats for sure. I couldnt justify buying one though. If I had the money I'd rather keep my dh bike and buy a cheap moto to muck about on.

because it has to be a moto MTB hybrid. it's pretty much a compromise between both bikes.

This whole thing just looks like a nice excercise of someones engineering capabilities... a bit of fun for someone that likes to build stuff and tinker with tools.

Personally i think it would have been cheaper for the guy to buy a cheap moto and decent DH rig to ride on, rather than spend heaps of cash and time (I think he wrote 1 year  ) building this thing. Having said all that though I gotta say it looks like fun, and the attention to detail is impressive.

I think you would break parts pretty quick if you rode this thing like a moto on some of the tracks I've ridden, but its probably not intended for that in the end...
