It's on at the moment on New Inventors.

Basically a new form of helmet padding where the foam extends out in small cones.* (Underneath the outer shell of course!)
Supposedly gives slower deceleration due to the shape of the cones.

Opinions?

* Yeah I know I explained it poorly but anyone who saw the show will know what I'm on about :o

yeah great idea the physics is spot on however i hope they don't look like the prototypes or no one will wear one.

I can't believe that helmet won their invention of the year. I don't think I'd be wrong by saying helmet manufacturers are already using multi-density foam in their products.
And how about that young inventor of the year, as if people weren't already using similar techniques to peel vegetables with one hand.

I reckon they chose the wrong person for each award.

Wow, that won invention of the year? I don't watch every week, but some of the times I have watched there have been amazing inventions that I think far outshine this one.

To those who watched it.

I have shares in Thompsons coupling and am regretting the decison. As i only bought 2000 of them.

The TC should of won, then maybe the water purifier. However knowing what i know, the prize could not of benifited the TC or the water thingy. As both are in early stages of production.
Just for the record as a fitter at a mine the TC is the most amazing thing ive ever seen.

So the only invention on there that would benfit would of been the helmet.

The young inventor should of won it, as every other thing is already done OS.

they still selling shares in the TC?

I was keen on it, but totally forgot about it earlier in the year when I started looking at other things. Bloody, that thing should take off in the industrial/mining sector. So beautifully made too.

Sorry for the hijacking.

Just went to a share holders meeting the other day. No there are no more shares to buy. It was raised at the meeting and no one is selling (althought a heap wanted to buy). But late next year they are going to float (at this stage), and I will be getting onto them again then.

The 3 they have in production are at a mine site in WA.
Red bull racing are putting it in the race car, and so is rolls royce (i think).

there is not a single prize, the prize is talor made to what the winner needs. up to the budget of prize money.. well thats how it was explained on JJJ the other morning.

i shamefully missed it the episode.

Yes I understood that but still the TC is far past a couple of grand prize. The best thing that the show did was give them so much TV coverage.
At TC there starting to talk about grants of 4.5 million being benifical, and quote "if we dont get the grant itll only set us back 12 months".

I can't figure out how the TC didn't win the final either, it's a revelation.

Not to mention the beauty of the polished one, sitting there spinning away...

Anyone want to explain exactly what the "TC" is? Or even just spell out the full words?

im a wanker but ill try to explain its basicly a cv joint that doesn't get increased resistance as the angle of the turn increases. its a particular useful coupling for the mining sector.

I saw a similar thing in australian mountain bike mag, with a neck brace BMW brought out. It is meant to prevent hyper extention of the neck or something, costs and arm and a leg though, guess thats better than a neck!
