Apologies to Captian Kirk who posted this up in the XC/Road forum but I thought this deserved its own thread.

"THE world's No.1 road cyclist, Cadel Evans, pledged to donate his $50,000 winner's prize to charity after he was named the Herald's Sports Performer of the Year last night...

The first charity is the Amy Gillett Foundation. A former Australian rower and cyclist, Amy Gillett was killed on the eve of a stage race in Germany on July 18, 2005, when she and her Australian teammates were struck by a car.
"It is my way of saying thank you for the support everyone has given me here," Evans said via video. "I think the Amy Gillett Foundation would be a much worthier benefactor [of the money] than me."

I don't usually give much credit to professional sports people but Cadel is going down as one of the biggest legends ever in my books. Honestly this guy deserves the Tour de France and Australian of the Year just for being a top bloke.

umm i wasnt bagging him out hes one of my favourite riders period.

it was a joke and went straight over your head he does have a bum chin and he does have one of the ugliest climbing styles i have ever seen but is obviously very effective.

as a matter of fact i met cadel a couple of times when he rode mtbs and he was a real champ, very genuine and friendly.

Im glad he won, I voted for him.

Only, he wouldn't win the voice of the year.

Went on Cadel's charity ride across the Harbour Bridge the previous weekend, raised $35,000 in 35 minutes for Cadel's nominated charity.

Not mention he arrived at St Leonards oval with Chiara in full Predictor kit (all white), announcing it was her first bunch ride ever . The man unclipped one foot to stop and it did not move for 30 minutes as 100's of autographs and pics were taken.

Used to know him from MTB days when as a Expert racer, he used to lap me as a Junior ! Still a quiet unassuming type, which my NON cycling friends bag....they prefer the Lance in your face super hero type that he cultivated in the media so well :(

So Oddjob I agree ! and when he wins it will be a well earned and respected victory by his peers and fans.

....my 2cents plus change anyway..
