Hey
I just bought some shimano saint hubs, R derailer, discs and dt spokes with this came ryno lites now my question is this do i change the rims to mtxs (the rynos are unused ) or keep them until the bike is finished?
Also how much would a saint derailer be worth new because i am thinking of buying a sram x7 instead. Pm me if you want a new saint derailler
Cheers,
Josh

I don't think I understand the question... But saint wouldn't be very good for 4x, much better with something like XTR or XT in my opinion (weight compared to the level of abuse which isn't massive in 4x compared to downhill)

ive always ran single speed in 4X just is alot less hassle... if you stack and bend something... and hell of a lot lighter as well

MTBA 4X Bike Rules & Regulations

Mountain Bikes vs BMX Bikes

This is a difficult and often contentious issue but the answer is simple. 4X is designed and run under MTBA rules for

mountain bikes. To allow the most flexibility in this ruling we have implemented a bicycle compliance scheme as

follows:

• All bikes used in 4X competition must have two working brakes, one front and one rear.

• All bikes must be fitted with handlebar plugs.

• All bikes must, additionally, have at least 2 of the following 3 characteristics:

• 26" wheels front and rear.

• Functional front suspension.

• More than one working rear gear.

Equipment Requirements

• Every participant must wear a hard shell bicycle helmet that is fitted correctly and satisfies the current

Australian Standard or accepted international standard during both practice and competition. All helmets

must have a visible compliance sticker.

• Helmet compliance is as noted in the policy issued by MTBA from time to time. At the time of printing the list

is:

• AS/NZ 2063

• ANSI Z90.4;

• Snell "B" or "N" series;

• ASTM F-1447.

• Canadian CAN/CSA-D113.2-M;

• U.S. CPSC standard for bicycle helmets;

• European CEN standard for bicycle helmets (EN1078)

• Full-face helmets are compulsory for DH and body armor and other protective gear are strongly

recommended for use in all downhill and mountain cross events.

• Eye protection is also strongly recommended for all events.

• Participant’s footwear must be fully enclosed.

• Participant’s bicycle must be in good working order and have fully functional front and rear brakes.

• Handlebar ends must be plugged and not have any sharp ends. This also applies to any form of bar-ends.

Safety Gear

An Australian Standard or accepted International Standard helmet is required, but the helmet need not be full face.

However, MTBA recommends the use of a full-face helmet and body protection clothing.

Start Procedure

There will a cadence start with the following automated commands similar to the following:

• Attention

• Riders Ready

• Watch the gate

The gate will drop or a set of lights will flash once the "Watch the Gate" command is given. If lights are used they will

sequence to the gate drop. If you barge the gate or move your front wheel above the top-line of the gate you will be

disqualified from that run and you will have zero points.

Here I was thinking that SS was simply over looked but definately not allowed at elite levels??

2 out of 3 of those characteristics....well........well.....26" wheels and a fork up front allows you to run SS?

Seems a bit odd?

hey what im saying is should i swap the ryno lites and the saint derailer to a mtx and a x7?

keep the rhyno lite, its lighter then an mtx and for 4x this is a plus and get the x7, saints hugely heavy duty and in 4x the worse your gonna do to your derailleurs is hit it in a crash

i would run the saint deralier for a bit and see how it goes.
then if you are a smooth rider keep the rhyno lites but if you are the slightest bit unsmooth i would go the mtx as rhyno lites are as usefull as a chocolate teapot if you are not smooth.

I think you should stick with what you have. I dont like how x7 changes gear. Also rhino lites are good for 4x, mtx are a bit heavy. Also, you probably wont save any money, and if you do it wont be much at all. You wont sell the saint rear mech for much and you definitely wont sell rhino lite rims second hand for the money you need to buy MTX rims for, also lacing the MTX rims to the hubs costs around 50-70 per wheel proffesionally done and then if the spokes are not the correct length its $1 a spoke.

there is no point in changing the rims to mtx's, there is no need for the extra strenght & weight
however i would change the saint mech to the x-7 beacause again there isnt really any need for the extra weight or strenght in 4x racing

thats my 2-cents any way
