Hey everyone,
I've been searching the internet to find all the lightest parts suitable for 4cross incase anyone is looking for new parts for 4cross to make their bike lighter. If the spec list below was settup the bike would end up being 9410 grams and if settup from scratch, buying all the parts brand new with no discount it would be $6495 - Spec list is below

Now who else thinks that 10730 grams for a 4x bike is bloody light?

Specs:

Cranks: FSA Carbon Pro XC Team Issue MegaExo - including BB - $820 - 870g

Forks: Fox 32 F-series - $1100 - 1530g

Shifter: SRAM X.0 Trigger Shifter 9sp Carbon - $210 - 113g including cable

Seatpost: Easton EC70 Carbon CNT Zero Seatpost - MTB - $235 - 200g

Seat: DMR Jump Seat Expert MkII - $47 - 360g

Deralieur: Sram X.0 Rear Mech 9spd - $422 - 197g medium cage

Frame: Scott Voltage YZ-0 Ltd Frame - $703 - 2000g

Chain: Shimano XTR (116 links) - $59 - 302g

Brakes: Avid Juicy Ultimate Pair - $902 - 690g

Bars: Bontrager Race X Lite Carbon - $164 - 240g

Stem: Azonic Equalizer Stem - $105 - 220g

Grips: DMR Loc'd Lock On Grip - $26 - 70g

Pedals: DMR V12 Magnesium Pair - $141 - 434g

Wheels: Mavic Crossmax SLR Disc UST pair - $1470 - 1520g

Tyres:Tioga Red Phoenix XC Pro 1.90 pair - $118 - 880g

Tubeless Fluid: $20 for liquid latex bottle - 120g for both tyres

Add on price and weight for all the lil' extra's: Chain guide, Lubricants, Grease, Headset: $150 (Good Chain guide) - roughly 750g

Total Price = $6927 possibly $100 - $200 off
Total Weight = roughly 10730g

Hey everyone,
I've been searching the net for parts you could use in 4cross to make the lightest 4x bike anyone has probably ever made. If it were built though, it would have to be for a pretty damn good, smooth rider. It would probably come in at being around $3500 - $6000... I didnt add the prices up, haha. But I did add together all the weights of each item, every little bit. The entire bike including the liquid which would be used for tubeless was added together. The ending weight ended up being 9107 grams which is as light or lighter then most road bikes you can buy for around $1200. If anyone would like to know specific things that the bike would be built with just post up =] Also if anyone really needs a full spec list I will put it up over a day or 2 =] The spec list if really needed can also include pricing and weights.

Now who else thinks that 9107 grams for a 4x bike is bloody light?

Cheers

That's light, but what parts are you running to get that weight?

DITCH THE LOCKONS?
Whatttt?
Thats not the actual weight of them by the way, it was a rough weight. I have Lockons which are really thin tough rubber over a magnesium clamp so they are about 60 - 70 grams for the pair

Cranks: FSA Carbon Pro XC Team Issue MegaExo - including BB - $820 - 870g- XTR Is lighter and IMO could last

Forks: Fox 32 F-series - $1100 - 1530g

Shifter: SRAM X.0 Trigger Shifter 9sp Carbon - $210 - 113g including cableNeed cable outer too, plus frame clips/zip ties.

Deralieur: Sram X.0 Rear Mech 9spd - $422 - 197g medium cage Short cage would be lighter, and more appropriate for 4x.

Cassette: Shimano XTR - $235 - 224g Durace would be lighter, and more appropriate for 4x.

Frame: Scott Voltage YZ-0 Ltd Frame - $703 - 2000gRight...

Chain: Shimano XTR (116 links) - $59 - 302g

Brakes: Avid Juicy Ultimate Pair - $902 - 690gNeeds brake adapters front and rear, plus the extra weight of the rear line.

Bars: Bontrager Race X Lite Carbon - $164 - 240g

Stem: Azonic Equalizer Stem - $105 - 220g Thomson- lighter, stiffer, looks better.

Grips: DMR Loc'd Lock On Grip - $26 - 70g Why not go foam for all out.

Pedals: DMR V12 Magnesium Pair - $141 - 434g

Wheels: Mavic Crossmax SLR Disc UST pair - $1470 - 1520g One race... may as well go a little heavier for reliability.

Tyres:Tioga Red Phoenix XC Pro 1.90 pair - $118 - 880g Good luck cornering...

Tubeless Fluid: $20 for liquid latex bottle - 120g for both tyres

Total Price = $6495 possibly $100 - $200 off
Total Weight = 9410g

AFAIK you're missing a seat and post, chainguide, frame hardware, headset, grease, lubes- so you're looking at ~an extra kilo here. It's not exactly going to be durable either...

The weight I added up includes basically all the things you just said I should add on. Chainguide would be about 500g. Good headset about 80g. Grease and Lubricants would only be about 150g max. I added seat and seat post. All up the bike could still weigh under 11kg's. I did consider changing the wheels, I might later, might also change the tyre choice later too, the tyres i chose would be specifically if you were using the crossmax wheels. But I did state that if someone was to settup a bike a lot like the spec list above they would need to be a pretty experienced rider and be pretty damn smooth.
Cheers =]

You can drop roughly another 200 grams by using a commencal absolut 4x frame-1.8 kg(are they available in Australia?) and a further 100 gram by using hope mono mini brakes, 590 gram for the pair.

True, and I'm thinking that would probably still be around the same price. Unless that frame you mentioned is expensive. I might change that later when i can be screwed finding out weights and prices for both those items. For now im buggered and cant really be bothered. Tomorrow maybe =]

I always thought E13's were heavy so i didnt bother checking for any lite ones.
You seem to know about some light gear =]
If i dont put up the parts you have told me hopefully people will read your posts to find out too. I will probably put the parts up tomorrow though =]

Seat and seatpost could be a lot lighter, E13 chainring too, alloy bolts, etc.

I think I might add to the post.
"If anyone knows of any other parts which could improve the bike and make it stronger while still being light please post them up with weight and rough price and I can add them to the list =] "

What do you reckon?

Use the Gamut G45 Guide (what chainring are you running?) at 245grams, and the Liteville 101 4X frame (http://www.liteville.de/t/22_63.html) (1840g). At least that way you can choose your own colour.

fellas
if we are going for light weight here wouldn't good quality v brakes (Avid) be a better choice as they only weigh a couple hundred grams and rigid bmx carbon type forks save evan more weight again

Cheers,
Josh
could go sticky if this was refined

how abouts a Santa Cruz Chameleon for 1000 grams or a Santa Cruz Jackal for 1300 grams?

Wow just got lighter again.

Wheels will really depend on the wieght of the rider and how good a rider they are. If you are like me and wiegh close to 100kgs then you will need a little stronger wheels that can take a beating....

I no of a couple of 4cross bikes that are easily sub 11kg's.......... I have seen them on the scales.... makes my 12.3kg feel very heavy......:(

But the Chameleon is a super light frame that is great for 4x

You will need some rotor bolts and they would have to be Hope Titanium bolts and only 3 per rotor for maximum shaving of grams. (some XC rider only uses 3 Ti rotor bolts for each rotor.)
I think there is a company that makes Ti rotors out there so that is lighter than a standard rotor.
the last thing is get a carbon seat clamp with a custom Ti bolt in it for maximum weight saving.
