I was riding alone my dirt road tonight about to turn around to do the jumps on the embankment and this snake fell down the embankment into the gutter. It was a 4ft in lenth tiger snake that was a good couple of inch's thick.
I stopped and had a look and realised it had flattened out it's head and then STIKE! at my leg. Missed my leg by about 5cm. I'm sorry if it's in the wrong section but fffaarrkk, I gotta warn you's because those snake are getting pissed off, there out and the funny thing is five minutes later it started raining. It was around 5pm and it was sitting at 24*c. So just warning you's. It really shakes you up and makes you think twice before hitting the trails.

First problem... You were standing to close when you were having a look

Snakes have always been there and its their teritory, we just need to learn to cope and live with them =] I <3 snakes and love seeing them around =]

That's pretty much what I wanted to say but I couldn't find the words without sounding like I was flaming you.

Yep, would be bloody scary. Like people always say, they are more afraid of you then you are of it. It would have just been defending its self from feeling threatened. Hope I don’t even get in contact with one!

Either you know this guy personally, and there's an in-joke I'm missing out on...or you're just being a try-hard tool.

I ran into the same problem a few days ago coming up some single track. Big brown snake sunbaking across the track. Luckily I saw it with plenty of distance to spare, so I just sat there for ten mintues hoping it'd move. I eventually had to roll rocks towards it to get it to slither off, as I had to get home

Nice to see people giving theese wonderful creatures the respect they deserve. Funny how people are so afraid of them, yet they don't think twice about driving a car. (regarding potential death or injury)
Some lists may vary, but the Tiger snake is usually listed in the top 5 of the worlds deadliest land snakes.

Started my new job today on site. Got inducted and had a surprisingly large talk about brown snakes, they have had 6 on site so far and one if which was in the roof of the factory which i was in. Pretty scary! Dunno how the buggers would get in a factory size roof made from brand new steel.

mabey when the framing is sitting on the ground for ages in long grass and in the sun heating it up all day seems like a pretty sick place for a snake to live

I think I'll be sleeping half the time now. Considering I was sitting on my ass all day every day for the past 6-8 weeks. Not cool, its really over rated..

It's strange, lots of people "almost" get bitten by snakes. No one every actually does, or it's their friends who do.

It is prime weather and time of year for snake activity at the moment, with the high humidity, rain and warmth. In reality, they are far less dangerous than just about everything, and as long as you follow the golden rule of "stand still", you have almost no chance of been bitten.

The majority of Australia's large venomous snakes rank in the top 20 in the world, but this has little correlation with regards to human fatalities, as the tests are conducted on mice.

Do you guys ever think....

Somewhere on the Internet is a snake forum where a tiger snake is bitching about "Some sick bastard almost flattened me on his mountain bike! They're all out and about this time of year..."

Ok. Maybe not.

Hahaha.

That reminds me of something my Mum once said. Remember those XXXX ads with the Brahman cattle talking to each other, at the pub playing pool? My Mum said "that's stupid, cows don't have thumbs".

I still give her shit for it.

My dads mate was driving up to Cairns, had his arm resting on the window sil as you do. There was a tiger snake on the side of the road all coiled up. Thats what he thought it was. At 100 + km/h the snake got up and bit his arm. Who else thinks thats pretty insane? Hahaha same guy also had a huge hornet (big wasp) hit his arm and bounced off down into his shirt through the armpit hole =]

Old mate doesn't let the truth get in the way of a good story. The distribution of Tiger Snakes along the coast stops at a very small locality on the Sunshine Coast. They are very rare until you get about 700km south of there. Snake's don't jump, and there's no way one is going to be able to somehow bite someone as they drive past at 100km/h. In summary, your dads mate is a shit talking wanker.

Do you realise just how fast 100km/hr is?
