Aussie snowball chucker faces trial
December 5, 2007 - 4:51PM
An Australian man working a seasonal job at a Copper Mountain ski shop in the western US state of Colorado is set to go to trial on Thursday for throwing a snowball.
District-Attorney Mark Hurlbert has said the object was more like an ice ball.
Andrew Thistleton, 21, is charged with third-degree assault and harassment after allegedly throwing the snowball at Michelle Oehlert on February 4 near the employee housing complex.
Oehlert told police she was walking to the bus stop when Thistleton and two other people began taunting her. Hurlbert said Oehlert's back was turned when the snowball struck her. Oehlert said she felt pain due to a prior injury from a car accident.
Thistleton pleaded not guilty in July. He has flown back to Colorado for the trial, said his lawyer, Lisa Moses.
When is this going to end? This is just beyond belief. Can't us humans learn to take a joke, and get over it. Litigation has gone way to far. It's time for people to start accepting some responsibility themselves. This makes me really angry, and extremely dissappointed. I have nothing else to say.

Hey, the fact it's not religion-based certainly makes for a change..

There are snowballs and there are snowballs, not all are created equal...
I should know, where i live there is snow for 6 months of the bloody year!! :p
Seriously though, if you made one out of fresh powder snow, it would be light and fluffy that it would hardly stick together during flight, which means it wouldn't hurt at all.
However, if you made one of wetter slushier snow, it would hold together really well and sting like f*ck when it hits.
And if you were really out to inflict some pain, all you have to do is pick up a preformed snow clump and make a ball out of that. Then you would have a snowball worth starting a lawsuit over! ;)
It's still a friggin snowball!
What a joke. "It was more like an ice ball". I hope you get hit by something "more like a wrecking ball" you fucking retards.

Actually I can see how you could assault someone with a snow/ice ball.
Would be nice to hear all the circumstances of this story.
This article has me shaking my head however http://www.guardian.co.uk/gayrights/story/0,,2221460,00.html

Typical f***ing CSA. They are absolutely ruthless and have been a huge factor in male suicides in the UK over the last 15 years.
As for the Lesbian couple. Way to go setting back Gay Rights 50 f***ing years!
that is just stupid...wtf!

The CSA has to look very carefully at the issue. I suspect he won't get his money back, as there would be a flood of similar applications
I'm glad to hear the deciding factor in whether or not this man's life is f*cked is how much money they'd have to pay back all the other people they've screwed over the years
What if it was a rock, stick, bottle, basketball, tennis ball, or some other object he threw at a girl with her back turned?
Where do we draw the line?
I'm going to guess they weren't exactly friends if he is getting done for it. That's the sort of thing you do with mates as fair play, but if you are being an aggressor (as the story makes out, and the fact he is in the shit backs that up) then suck shit. Being an aggressor and throwing something at a girl with her back turned is pretty low.
Note use of the word 'if' - believing the media is dangerous stuff.

Yeah, it's impossible to assess the situation with such little info.
Say this dude had been harrassing this girl for the last few weeks and being a complete dick about it. Then, he throws a snowball made of ice (seriously, ice balls can hurt like fark. If you've never been hit by one, imagine a ball of hard, dried mud) at her back. Then I'd say fark him too.
But, if it was just fun, then of course there is now issue to be answered.
You all shouldn't jump to such conclusions with such little evidence. I think the other issue of the lesbian couple sueing the donor is far more serious.

Shits me that these laws weren't already about - don't these people realise how the world works nowdays?
That woman is exactly the reasons females have a bad reputation. Bloody dog act that is.

Thats just stupid.
The person who got hit by the "ice ball" needs to harden up. It caused her pain for what? 10 seconds or so, thats no reason to take someone to court.

Please don't come back with the "I'd bash them" remark, maybe she doesn't have a brother or any children to defend her. Anyway, why should she have to put up with any pain for the sake of some one else's enjoyment? I'm tipping I'm a good deal bigger than you, should I be allowed to slap you in the face when I see you? It would only hurt for 10 seconds or so.
Of course I shouldn't be allowed to do that, so why should they?

Clearly you have just answered your own question. Especially in Trippers case.
