Well for me its fairly simple.. for XC I prefer a carbon frame because it is light weight and I feel like I can control the bike better.
Although it may not feel as strong as an aluminium, let me assure you it is. I proved this last week going downhill a little to fast, launched of a jump at the bottom. I went over the handle bars and the bike did a few flips and landed hard.
I was not okay (2nd physio appointment later today) - and to my delight the bike was absolutley fine.
Only problem is they cost a lot more. Your looking at $3K+ for a bike with carbon frame.
