Have trouble fitting your wide bars ibetween trees and rocks at race tracks? If you said yes then you need the new Remote Rear brake.
Was pedalling along into a corner, dropped my bike into the corner abit and then my left arm just went straaight down, with my left hand side of my bars in one hand and the rest of my bike in the other. I am very lucky that it happened on this particular bit of the track and not on any jumps or drops on the track. Even though I did get pummeled into the ground at a reasonable pace I got up with no injurys fortunatly.

Jesus, I hate snapping bars. The last bar I snapped left me with forearms that looked like I'd tried to shag an angle grinder. You get no time to react before you eat shit. I've seen a few snapped Funn's around the place though, I reckon you should stick with better brands like Eason or something for critical bits like that.

Definitely a warranty job :p
"I was just riding along when"
I've put off getting a set of the super wide bars, and was wondering if funn had stretched the leverage capabilities just a little too far. And there's a certain couple of sections at Mt Stuart and Kinchant Dam that are already tight enough...
Good to hear you pulled up okay...

The scary thing was that I actually was just riding along... I'm glad I didnt snap em on any other part of the track. I did it right at the start of the track where you pedal your arse off for like 50-100 meters get upto pace, go around a highish speed corner and half way around the corner.. BAM!

I'm not entirely sure where they were bent, but they were going to be retired in less than a week after my new bars arrive. They wern't badly bent anyway so I couldnt really tell where the bend was.

BAM!I'm not sure you understand what just riding along (JRA) means. It means you were just pedalling at a normal pace on flat ground in a fairly relaxed way. It's definately not pedalling your arse off into a corner of a DH/FR track! Sure, you weren't hitting a jump or a drop at the time, but you certainly weren't JRA!
I've had Funn bars die on me too. They were the fun Kilo's that are supposed to be rock solid. They farking aren't! Funn are good for pedals, but that's about it from my experience.

Jeez...those are the first snapped bars I've seen and to think I could have been there riding with you and seeing the bars snap if I went there today:) Is it the part of the main track where you pedal quite a bit, do the fastish berm and then do a hip style jump into that burm? Anyway that's quite an acheivement and I wish I was there to see it. Glad you out of it ok and your all good. What bars are you getting now?

Sunline, I was wrong.
haha thats funns for ya, my mates fatboys did the same
haha, Funn bars are probably the only ones on the market that will do that to you... I had an older set of Full-Ons and they sucked, bent way too easily (not even crash damage). Stick to Eastons if you can afford em I reckon... I can't so I got some of those 800mm FSA things that weigh about as much as the rest of the bike (Gravity "Light" my arse, 400g for a bar is nothing near light).

Pffft, the bars had already been bent a fair bit for a while now so its not surprising that they finally went. I was the only one who saw the crash (Funniest sh@t ever) and you where pretty lucky you werent hurt at all. lucky

How light should 800mm wide bars be
and you purchased them why?
Because they're wide and reasonably cheap, and hopefully won't break or bend too easily. Oh and the LBS had em in stock... otherwise I probably would have gone for some Sunline or Burgtec stuff. Was pretty keen to try something wider, but found the full 800mm to be a bit much so I cut em down to 750 already anyway. Nice to have that option.
How light should 800mm wide bars be
288g on the dot. Nah really though, Easton make 710mm stuff that weighs 250g (or 290g for the oversized Havoc bar), the FSAs are a fair bit more than that, like 60% heavier, without being THAT much wider. I don't have a huge problem with the weight, just think it's pretty silly to call one of the heavier bars out there "xx Light".

Pffft, the bars had already been bent a fair bit for a while now so its not surprising that they finally went. If this is true then you've only got yourself to blame. Secondly, it also makes your use of JRA even more misleading and to be honest..., ridiculous.
I was just riding along and my bars broke.
I was pedalling my arse off into a corner on a DH track when my already damaged bars finally gave u the ghost.
I have nothing against you personally, you seem like a decent bloke. But after this, your credibility is pretty close to zero.

Johnny, you replyed to the wrong person. :o
PlowKing, who's bars broke, was not actually pedalling at the time. He had pedalled before the corner then as he was making the corner, which wasn't a harsh or steep turn, and bouncing over the (small) roots when the bars gave way. So I think it is inbetween just cruizing along and pedalling his arse off.

Think riding home from the shops at 9:30 Sunday morning..., along a flat footpath. That does not meen pedalling his arse off, which he said himself, taking a fast corner, over uneven ground, let alone farking tree roots on a farkin DH track!!! Jesus dude, I could type for a page why your last post really is quite stupid, but you also seem like a decent bloke.
My point stands, Plow King completely understated what he was doing and allegedly "forgot" to mention that the bars were already damaged. That = zero credibility, especially when for the most part he lets the cat out of the bag himself. I mean, just riding along...., compared to what the rest of the track is!! I already said they were bent in a previous post when jordan asked me, I wasn't denying that. I just didnt believe that they were badly bent and I was only riding them until my new bars arrived in a week. They were bent hence why I ordered new ones... Yes it was my fault and I never said anything bad about the bars... (Which I probably should have stated in my first post... Sorry) I just didnt think it would end up so catastrophically.
Edit: You can see the bit of track where I crashed on... At the very start of the second clip, about 10 seconds in...

Having the brand of the bar in the thread's title is about as close as you can get to blaming it without technically blaming it. Very fine line and if I was from Funn I'd be having very serious words with you right now.

It's incredibly hard to resist, isn't it? You know the part shouldn't be ridden, but you can't be farked trying to borrow something from some and it's only a week... what could go wrong?
