View Full Version : Dans Comp - NEXT DILEMMA - Help, Anybody?

Edit: Next Question - Added 290108

Ok, friggen.

I ordered all the shite (over $1kAUS worth that is), about 12 days ago now. I recieved an email on the night I placed the order confirming everything, saying another email would be sent when the gear was sent. Cool.

Never recieved the email.

Anyway, none of the parts were fresh off the press, so i'm assuming they were all in stock and should have been sent. I would have hoped they'd contact me via email if they were going to take longer than the recommended time and/or didn't have any of what I wanted.

My next dilemma (and possibly the reason it's taking a while): The credit card I used to pay for the parts belonged to someone who doesn't live at my address. I thought this would be all sweet, until I got so desperate I read every word of the site and it informed me that if the shipping address and the credit card address aren't the same they won't ship. I'm wondering, wouldn't they contact either me or the credit card holder to let us know? Or is it protocol to just leave the customer hanging, having spent $1000+ in their store...?

I've tried calling them, but it's currently 1230am on Tuesday morning in their wee country, so the customer service line isn't be prioritised (sleep, i'm guessing, is more important, from all that hard work they're doing...). And i've got to wait another 7 and a half hours before they decide to pick up.

SO, can anyone give me any info? Had this experience and want to share it like i'm a psychologist?

Cos i'm all ears...

The rest from last time

Couldn't be bothered searching for info on this, although i'm sure its scattered somewhere throughout the BMX forum. But here goes anyway;

Can anyone from Sydney tell me how long it takes for a Dans Comp order to reach your house? I'm buying some parts and am an inpatient mother fucker. Do I:

A: Place the order as soon as possible because by the time the parts arrive my new frame will be dripping with cobwebs, or
B: Chill the fuck out, build up the rest of the bike, and then order the Dans Comp parts because it doesn't take long at all.

I'm guessing the former, but the world is full of suprises...

Info me, please?

One of them frames that like does stuff, n shit.

Postage to Melbourne = Probably a few months i'd say. You guys are pretty far out of the way there. The people sending the parts have probably never heard of your little village, either, so good luck getting anything...

All of my orders from dans. (Over 8 of them) have come within 7 days. Only issue is, if you are ordering built wheels then it takes longer as they have to built them and occasionally order the parts in.

Would someone be willing to order me a couple of t shirts on there next dans order? I will give you the money for them obviously...
I would place an order myself but i dont want anything else from there at the moment besides t's. Im in Canberra but i will pay for the postage from you to me which is like $10...

ON TOPIC:
None of the orders i have placed on Danscomp have taken more then 8 Days to come including weekends and they have never stuffed up an order or anything. I highly recommend them

and spend twice the amount of money it would cost you to order off dans? Thus delaying the time it would take to get his new bike built because he has to earn more money to pay for stuff...

yeah my order came in with in 7 days but watch out when ordering the just released stuff because i ordered the macneil conjoined cranks and they were supposed to come in 4 days after i ordered. so naturally i thought ok my order would take 7 days + 4 days.
but after 2 weeks i called them and asked why i had not received them yet and they said i should have got an email telling me that the cranks were comming in late and that my order would not get here until 5 more weeks so i canceled the cranks and the shipped every thing else straight away. i never got an email so dont order any thing that has just been released.

P.S. What frame are you getting ?

Yeah. Chill the f*ck out for a few hours and give em a call.

It's highly unlikely anyone here is going to have access to the status/location of your order, unless there are some sneaky Danscomp staff staying back late to browse Farkin who see this thread.

I'm not wanting to know where it is, i'm wanting to know if anyone has had any problems similar...And how they resolved them.

I'm just pent up from all this non-riding, really. I'm basically in tears...

Dont worry tristan, the credit card adress or whatever and the shipping destination dont have to be the same.

Yeah, I was guessing I would. I'd just hoped they'd contact me to let me know, so I could actually pay the $100 or whatever it might be and get the product I so desperately desire.

When my brother ordered over 1K of stuff, he didn't get an e-mail or phone call either.
I'll get back to you with what my mum did though.

When you order over a grand and have to pay customs tax, don't they hold it for a while to check out whats inside and what not?
That might be the problem but i still doubt it would take 12 days or so.

Don't stress about the shipping email from dans, i have never gotten one from them. Your stuff is in customs in sydney. I got stung with customs shit when i bought stuff online, sucks so much.
Customs are cunts to deal with as well. They had my stuff for like 3 weeks.
You will get a letter from them soon and inside it will be your first notice, an importer buyers sheet, importer seller sheet, another sheet to fill out all the order details on and probably an invoice from danscomp. You fill them out (if you have no idea what to do just ring them up and they will walk you through it) and send them back.
They charge you like $50 to process those forms (fucken scam) then they will charge you 10% gst on small parts and another 5% ontop of that for frames forks and bigger stuff. They will include the postage in the 10% as well, so if your stuff was worth $1000 and postage was another $100 ontop of that, you would pay 10% of $1100.
Since your order is in US currency you will have to convert it to AUD$ and the exchange rate will be for the day the parcel was sent, not the day it was charged to the credit card. You can find the rates on the customs site for the date you need.

Cheers for that info dude, really helpful. I'm just hoping it doesn't take 3 weeks. :(

Hopefully i'll recieve the letter soon, and I can move on from this shite.

I just re-checked the original email I was sent and the total amount, in US dollars, that I paid for all the parts was $814.87. This converts to $916.37 AUS. The shipping was an extra $82.00 on top of this, taking the total amount, once converted, to $1008.47. A bitch cos it's only just over $1k.

I don't care if I have to pay an extra $200 on top of the amount i've already spent, IF I can collect the goodies sooner rather than later. It will have still cost considerably less than Aus prices (God, I hope no importers of BMX componentry are reading this...:o).

Anyway, thanks for that help. I'll let you guys know what happens. Not that you really give a shit, but it'll give me something to do while I wait...

Cheers once again.:)

no worries man. let me know how you go.
It shouldnt take 3 weeks, it only took that long for me because i was away when they sent out the 1st notice. I also had no idea what to do with the forms or how to fill them out and they tried to charge me storage fees for my parcel.
The shit thing is you don't have atracking number for your parcel to check its status or anything...

I'm not too sure but I think customs only take it if the package contents cost more than $1000. I don't think that they take the postage costs into account. On the invoice that you receive, it will have the parcel's cost and then postage costs.

Well then..shit. It should have arrived by now.

Either way, it hasn't. I'm going to call DansComp now and ask them what's happening. If nothing, i'll personally fly to Indianapolis myself and take the effing goods!

Ok: Called DansComp. Apparently they were out of a certain, specific part I was after, and apparently they sent me an email stating that (but I never recieved it...). So I chose a similar part, and they're going to ship the order today their time (9am on Tuesday 29/01)..he recons it'll be 5-7 days, meaning i'll hopefully have everything by Monday next week if all goes to plan.

Bit more waiting, but at least now I have confirmation.

Thanks for everyone's help, this thread can probably die now. :)

I have no 'Dans-comp' experience, but I do know my buying online from the good ol US:p

It depends on what value they put on the decleration thingo, if its 1k or more customs will have it....and yes do expect to wait a few weeks as they are slack bastards....and expect your package to have a nice big hole from where they drilled it to check for drugs;)

Who did they ship with? Fed ex? USPS? They should have a tracking number available. I had something posted a week ago from DRIF LA and it still hasn't left the States, they used the cheapest shipping rate so it takes a while longer.

Also if you used someone elses credit card, expect it to be posted to their adress!!! I think its illegal for them not to? At least in my experience they will always post to the card holder/paypal user adress.

How long ago did your payment clear? If its been more than two weeks Id think customs has got it, expect to wait a long time and cop a hefty fee.:(

All my dealings with dans were with USPS and gave tracking numbers each time.

Also, dans were VERY nice with declaration of goods. All my orders were over $1k, and they had a huge list on the page BEHIND the visible one, on the outside one the might put something like seatpost clamp for $5 (yes they actually did that, and the box had frame, forks, and wheelset in it).
