I'm not sure if there has been a thread like this... But theres one now. How many people have you met/become riding mates with through farkin?

Heres my list: (Theres alotmissing so if you're not on it my bad.)

Fleshbone - Alex sent me a pm a while ago asking if ?I wanted to go for a ride, now we ride atleast once a week together.

B1k3r_Boi - Added me to msn afew years ago and we go riding occassionally.

Transition_Pete - Same as Greg^

Mojo/Beginnergiantdh - Sent me a pm asking if I could show him afew tracks. Since then ive helped him maintain tracks, shuttle with him, ride with him every once in a while.

DH Freak - I used to talk to Reece over msn abit until we met at an ourimbah clubby - I could sort of keep up with him then :p

Arpit I met Arpit at ourimbah one day as I was shuttleing with Reece ^^ I didn't know he even had a farkin account till I receieved a PM from him asking for a race photo. He then came down to my place afew months later and I showed him afew local trails.

Pharcyde - Similarly to Arpit I was chatting to Simon at a race and had no idea that he had a farkin account, he then later hooked me up with some wicked photos, soon after we were hitting up shuttle days and we showed him some tracks around our area.

Cletus I put up a thread in wanted to buy about wanting some cheap spd shoes, Pete decided to give me a pair for free, soon after I invited pete decided to come up to ride some of our local stuff (Even though twas'pissing down with rain.

Renegade - went into the city for a street ride with Greg, posted it up on farkin and chris decided to come, after the street ride Chris came down for abit of a bash locally.

Mongoosedh - Only last week Hugh added me to msn and we started to chat about going for a ride, sure enough he came down and hit up some localish trails with us. (shame my bars broke so early into the ride.

Matt-d8 - Matt advertised a ride day on farkin and met up with him for some shuttles, twas the best day of riding I had in ages. hopefully do it another time.

Smooth King - I thought I met up with Michael at school/locally but it turns out I also met him on farkin.

And there are alot more that I've just met/had a chat too or ridden with

Just goes to show good farkin is for the riding community.

Edit - this should probably be in general MTB discussion.

i met i like dirt riding my old hardtail one day and he showed me a few tracks. i didnt even know he had a farkin account until one day i saw a familiar bike in his signature. then i pm'd him and we got talking. theeen...i saw him a few times at the skatepark (not knowing it was him at this stage) because he was on a bmx and i didn't recognise him). we were talking about something and somehow farkin came up and then we both worked out what was going on.

was also talking to live to ride or love to ride another mate from the skatepark (had talked a few times before) when the word farkin popped up. then we found out eachother used farkin.

By the way, my name is Eliot if you ever see me riding around on Nail Can Hill in Albury, just so you can link a username to a face.

Not enough.

Otherwise I'm not sure. I have a couple of mates who no one else here will know who set up Farkin accounts but rarely show up any more.

I've met a few of the ORCCS and Sutherland Riders like Mojo thought trying to get some trails in that area and via Jamesiscold who I met 'cause of the RFS.

Then I went on a WSMTB intro to MTB day and met good people like Steve, Pyley, G-Man and Foxey and probably a few more like Boof (I think) building trails at Kurrajong.

Raced at Ourimbah Clubby once and got my ass heavily kicked by DH Freak when he was still on a hardtail, plus a few more people.

Done some trail building in the Royal NP at Sutherland, met a few more Farkers there. Especially Anthony

Done some trail building for the huw and the people at Wild Horizons in Bundanoon so I saw a few more Farkers there.

Done some trail building at stromlo plus was a marshal at the Nationals last year. Watched a lot of farkers crash in the rock garden.

Been around, its been good. Hoping to hook up with some Farkeners over here in Canadia as well at some point.

I met Alec_McJo at El Arish. That's it, ahahaha. Funny guy.

Oooo, and Adrian. Drives crazy distances for races up north.

Also, Rabatt. Met him at Mackay for some 4x action, he goes hard even when he loses his shoes mid-race.

And all the Townsville boys including bazza, noddy, donkey_boy, etc.

I've met a couple of members who know I'm a member of farkin.

However, I often have kids come up to me when I'm working on my bike, mucking around on it, or transporting it, and say 'nice bike' and strike up a conversation.

They usually ask whether I'm on farkin.

I tend not to say yes...

Man, i've met too many to count. Here's just a few of the influential guys:

Olly1oo8: Met him once at Belrose Cycles, spoke for a couple of minutes and thought nothing else of it. Then, about 6 months later on a city ride we started chatting and just got along really well. Now we ride together at least once a fortnight, and sleep together even more often than that...:)

Nicho: First time I met him was at some Dirt Jumps. He was chillin' and seemed to command some respect. Naturally, commanding respect myself, he and I got along well...

Our latest mega-respect-commanding-session was when we went down to Thredbo with Olly, Daver, and Fogs a few weeks ago. We commanded so much respect Nicho didn't know what to do with himself.

Naz: Saw a shitload of pictures of him posted on the site back in '05, then one day just bumped into him in Clarence Street Cyclery. Ended up buying a frame off him, and having random chats about shit over the past couple of years whenever i've been in Clarence St.

Spoolin: I always loved Chris' photos, and was stoked to learn he lived in Manly, not too far from where I work. Although I haven't really ridden with him a huge amount, when I have, I know he goes off. Plus his photos are pretty freakin' inspirational.

Leitch: The bastard came down to Sydney on some business trip his dad had, and just expected me to be hospitable. We ended up having many fights, but making up for it with many hugs. We also both like photography which gave us some common talking ground.

.:Alan:. Mainly just got to know each other through Olly. We both shoot, and he's a pretty cool guy so it's easy to get along and talk about random shit whenever we're riding together.

Daver: The big man, himself. Met him one day with Nicho when they were coming back from some DH session at a place called Oxford-something. We also went to Thredbo recently, with Nicho and de' crew. He likes/d Muscles, and isn't bad on a DH rig.

Trent188: Met Trent when he was riding big wheels (26" that is) on his Suburban. Small guy, but pushing his limits all the time. Now he rides 20" though so I refuse to speak to him...

RCOH: Drove to his house one night to pick up some free road bike parts he was giving away. Incredibly down to earth, genuine, and down to earth. I liked his style, and i'm sure we'll be sharing many-a-beer together in the future.

Shauno: Again, met through Olly. Top bloke, rides brakeless and is easy to hang with. Should ride with him more...

All the Manly kids: You know who you are. Sometimes funny, mostly annoying, but I've ridden quite a bit with them, so meh..they can stay on this list.

Long enough for ya? And that's only about half of them...

Hmm not many at the moment:

Regan of the gong: Helps with the ever err... not so growing snail trail (we have a cool wooden rollin/verandah thing now. Might get pics up for you guys. Always up for a dig and easy going. Just goes with the flow.

stpriderzac: Although I haven't ridden with him, I knew him from primary school and his mum was my year six teacher. Is also to lazy to ride to my house with regan on his squishy so he can help build.

DH_Boy: Jarryd, ballsy rider, good cricketer. Is a mad pool fark player aswell.

Wonderboy: Ridden with him a few times, rode his old rincon into the ground.

Thats about it, except I frequently talk to others on msn. Oh yeah I will meet karlfaith next week in brissy.

Squidly, Rik and Daver.. umm most probably a few more during my days in Thredbo?! No idea on that one!
Not including the racers i've met and known before Farkin though.. offline list doesn't belong in this thread :)

Racers and the Sydney crowd. Do I really have to list all of them?

EDIT:
- A few key ones.

Rik - Was working at a bike shop in bondi junction when I first joined farkin. bought a set of judy tt's from him, then got a refund for them when they didn't fit my bike. What a noob...thanks mate,

RCOH - Just general city riding/meet-ups. This guy has the amazing ability to be punk and cool, and get along with every single person he's ever met, even if he didn't like them.

Johnny - the pinnacle of humanity, a great moralist, ethicist, intellectual, and a farkin huge nut to boot.

Pyley, G-Man, Foxy, - I went riding with pylet a fair bit when I was in Sydney. Worked well for most people involved I think. These guys have a passion for sharing the sport, making themselves heard, and creating new places to ride and race. Still catch up at the occasional race. Top crew, loud, passionate, and completely unrepentant.

Squidly, Daver, Nicho, Wattsy - General Sydney racing/riding/scene thing. Everyone knows who they are. Everyone.

Bogga - President of the Townsville Rockwheelers and a top dude to boot. His couch is comfortable and his fridge is accomodating, although anything placed in it tends not to last for long. Passionate, loves kids so much he teaches them all week, and then organises their racing schedule all weekend.

Better put FATPM in here as well haha.

As well have had beers with (this list just keeps growing as I recall): Cave Dweller, scblack, Arete, Carlin, TonyG, Binaural, Skinny666, TechnoDestructo, Carlin, POSM

Then there's Mayo(I forget your Username mate :P) and probably a bunch of others who I've run into at the Keira drop point, the DJ crew at Bally, the guys at Stromlo who I said "g'day" to as I rode past...

Hopefully I'll meet a few more of you, look out for an old fire-truck red Landcruiser w/green Ps and a guy on a light blue blue 08 STP with red and black riding gear. That'll be me :P

Heaps, probably too many... though there's a few I'd like to meet because I like and respect what they have to say - and there's plenty I'd like to meet just to give them a chance to prove they're not the idiots they make themselves out to be online.
One thing's for sure though, I gotta stop wearing my Farkin shirts out in public. It always happens when I forget I have it on (whoops) and some random will approach me. The most coincidental meet so far was a bloke from Melbourne started talking to me in a Sydney club, turns out he's friends will a bunch of people down there who are linked to a big group I'm friends with that have nothing to do with riding.

Good point Rik - there is definately a few I would like to meet over a quiet beer or two.

I met a few of the guys on here at Thredbo a couple of years ago: Squidly, Daver, Boysik, Scott, Nico to name a few, and all were really helpful and friendly.

I have had a quiet beer with jayrool and johnny.

I sold Ryan a set of forks a while ago. Then Ryan had the misfortune of bumping into me & beefsta at the Earthed 5 premier (we were shitfaced).

I use to collect aaronzor and take him for shuttles before he had his license.

Plus the lads I have met through the trading forum.

(now do we get to do a list of farkineers we don't want to meet ?! :p )

Royb10 Lachie is my pet bullfrog.

Patto_15 That superheroic kid in the year above me, didn't know he even rode until Ballarat Grammar put in a Mountain Biking Team with some older lads Cam, Isaac etc. Now he is my other pet bullfrog. Lachie and Patto tend to play gleefully... when i let them.

And the ones that don't really count.. but i'll say em anyway.

Cameo Bought pedals off him.. wayyy taller than i thought he'd be haha. Top bloke nonetheless.

'Ross Bought bars off him. Caught me a bit startled when a group of disabled people were walking through Fed Square and one fell over and made a huge scene, crying and screaming. I was dumbfounded when he was trying to get my attention. Really nice bloke, and has a good shoe collection.

No one from farkin that I have met has ever been a cock in person, despite their online persona suggesting the contrary. All those people I have list I will happily ride with & drink with again & some I will be friends with for a very long time.

I have also met & ridden with a couple of cats from melbourne & canberra but their names (real & online) escape me at this time.

Fark...

Ryan, Tristan, Olly, Quintin, Aliner/Binner, Fallboy, ContactJT, Sickpuppyonglory (??), DH_Co, J-Rad, Bennylachlan, Gravity_Guru, Custard, Derelikt, Yogi Bear, Ruckus Lord, Cortinabloke/Frenchman, Nicho, Booost, Will..., Matt_82, .:Alan:., Bmgal something-or-other, Hubbie, Shmeado, Declan!, Conor1, sxereturn, Tu_Plang, Sherman, Paiaro, Scott, Tomac, I'm not even going to try to list them all...

The most notable would probably be the following:

Ryan: Such an angry man on the forums, but a really chilled out easy going guy in real life, with an amusingly scathing wit and a hot wife.

Yogi_Bear: The kind of guy who would scare the crap out of you if you met him in a back alley one night, but really a big softie :p. Known for stomping shit and pruning trees with his face.

Cortinabloke: Filthy immigrant child with a stupid streak. Always fun to be around and do stupid shit with, and a really good kid when the time calls for it.

Tu_Plang: Condescending bastard, but is always up for a road ride when I'm not and is good for the occasional laugh.

Slip: Funny, funny guy, also really easy going and down to earth.

Tristan: I was a bit apprehensive at first about talking to Tristan too much as I'd had my e-differences with him in the past, but after meeting him in Sydney he's really a good kid and really chilled. Also worthy of note is he's even shorter than Ryan.

Olly: Also met Olly in Sydney, and he's the kind of guy who you can never imagine making a bad first impression with anyone. Too easy to get along with, super laid back and always smiling. The smiling is a bit weird, though... I think he might be a pedophile..

Gravity_Guru, J-Rad, Bennylachlan, Allonby: Suffice to say that there is no funnier group of guys to get drunk with.

I know I've met more than the above, but to be honest it's hard to think of the people you know as forum usernames rather than real people, so I've no doubt forgotten a bunch of them.

kore23 - yeti whore and all round good guy who will attempt to kill anyone who happens to be in the car with him on the way up Buller
technica - angry Dave, generally good bloke tho
roxy12 - she is fearless, seriously. Hits all the big jumps, and I do mean all of them.
elysium - posts very little but such a chilled out guy, you can't not like him
Grip - the famous "ah fuck it gimme that, I can fix it" bloke with a heart of gold
OH64 - another chilled out likeable guy
Johnny - arguably the only person on earth who talks more shit in the flesh than on the net, but anyone who picks a fight with this guy is just asking for death
Squid - poser deluxe who somewhere along the line decided to try and justify owning the blingest shit ever by actually riding fast :)
Scott - Mr Farkin himself, quiet guy who absolutely freaking pins
Toodles - funny fat alcoholic guy who doesn't seem to give much of a shit about anything. Once set a guy on fire.
Udi - token black kid who has managed to progress his riding hugely since I've known him (from mega passenger to elite level rider), solid mechanic and knows his tech shit fairly well too

samsty - owner of arguably the best DH track in Vic, can't not like him
spinner - eaaaaasy going guy, top bloke and solid rider for sure
Superman - one of the most fucked-up-funny kids you're ever likely to meet. Picture a 16 year old kid walking down the main street of a country town wearing muddy riding shorts, a leather button-up cardigan, a fluoro yellow hat with one of those neck flap things, eating an ice cream in the rain. This is Sam.

...and probably a hundred others whose farkin accounts I'm not aware of or just can't remember.

Nearly everyone I've met has been cool as, even though 95% of those people have had violent arguments on here with me at some stage :)

And to think, Shayne, that you have PMed me twice in 24 hours yet I still leave you off my list. I will probs see you at a gig before I see you on the bike so I will buy you a drink or many to make up for my woeful indiscretion.

S. if memory serves me I think I talked to you on the phone, but I believe it may have been while drinking with POSM & Johnny so who knows....

Yeah, i think there was a brief drunken (certainly on my part) phone call to S. that evening.

For the record my grand total of farkin meetings is down to one seriously pissed night in Sydney with Johnny, Bodin (who had to leave early to fly back to Melbourne), Carlin, RCOH and Rik (oh, and S. on the phone.)

Good night out. Horrific flight back to melbourne the next morning...

Heaps, probably too many... though there's a few I'd like to meet because I like and respect what they have to say
I'm of the same opinion, there are heaps that I would like to meet and go riding with some day. I definitely need to meet a few more off farkin.
This thread shows we're a tight knit community hey! We just have to get out there and keep bringing in the new recruits.

Probably more than that, but I just don't know it. I assume some DHer acquaintances of mine are on here, but I just never asked them. And probably others, considering it's Toowoomba...

There are quite a few of you who I would love to meet in person though, anonimity is great on the net but there are some incredibly interesting and knowledgable people on this forum that would be great to know personally. I'm going to make a point of meeting more of you this year so prepare your beer fridges.:D

Hi Matthew:D

I met skinny before I even knew what farkin was, through Simon & Bathurst Dan, we rode the old Lithgow DH track (with little & big thunder switchbacks) & OBR, raced at dargle A, thems were the days. I always bump into the bastard & we're normally both rotten drunk. He's even met my missus!

Yeah. Great day apart from that. My brakes faded coming down Victoria pass, then I had to drive Mikey, both our bikes & all of his, mine & Simon's gear back to Blaxland averaging about 40kmh in my old vw golf.

I have met many a farkiner i wish i had not but many more that have enriched my life just knowing them. I met a great deal of them on the Wed night city rides, others through races, redhill or other random gatherings.

Skinny666- Classic guy whom i met before i even knew of farkin. A close mate who got me into riding that is now living happily in Vancouver introduced us. Rode the old Lithgow track for my second time doing a proper DH track.

Naz- I'm sure many have golden views of naz. From his internet persona he came across as a wank but after meeting him in person not long after we became good friends. Top guy and a super talented person, riding and otherwise.

RCOH- Awesome dude who i respect a great deal. Met him on a trip to thredbo back in 04 i think, race got called off and we rode Majura Pines on the way back. Also had many city and redhill rides together.

Spoolin- Top guy, top rider, phenomenal photographer, need i say more.

Olly1oo8- From the day i met him he has not stopped progressing in all areas of his life, awesome dude and makes dang good films.

Johnny- This guy made a good impression from the first day i met him when he came to redhill. We talked politics pretty much the whole time and it was probably the first intellectual conversation i had with a rider up the hill. no offence fellas:p. Much appreciation and respect to all the help and advice he gave me.

Wookie- The big hairy beast has been a great friend for most of the time i have been riding a bike. Respect.

Rik- Quietly spoken and intelligent. Had a memorable pub crawl with him a few years back, i spoke shit till the early ours of the morning to these two russian tourist while he probably sat there rolling his eyes. Many city rides in there too when sweeney was the stand out:rolleyes:.

Wombat- Quiet lad who i havent got to know well. Used to come on the Wed night city rides back in the day. Seems like a intelligent guy from what he sometimes writes on here.

Carlin- Good guy with a quietly spoken manner who can hold good conversation. Can ride a bike pretty well too.

Inverted- Ahh the older brother from another mother.

Technoboy- Another brother from yet another mother.

Seanus- Supercool dude who was one of the first redhill crew. Ride with him heaps, might go session his backyard quarter now actually.

Shauno and Josh- young redhill shredders that have since moved on.

Ragots Crew- you guys are going to have some sweet trailbuilding and riding skills. Some cool dudes there.

The runts crew had a few cool young lads and a few knobs too.

Many more whom all came across as great people, although sometimes not immediately.

Pretty cool idea. Its always good to meet people who you only know by there user name.

J5ive. He sold me my bike.

Mtb_91. I get drunk with him. Prob met him at the old Frenchy DJ's when I didnt have a mtb and use to jump them on my bmx.

Little T. He is so cute. And he pins. Cant remember when I met him.

And all the people from Rocky.

Duckman. Previously from Townsville now from Brisbane. First met him at the North Queensland Games in 2006 at Mackay. And just from going to Mackay races a couple times a year we always talked for maybe 3 seconds haha.

Juzzo. First met him at the first attempt of the 2006 Qld DH Champs. And stayed at his house the 2nd time around. He then stayed in our motel at last years state round at Toowoomba that got called off. And cause it got called off we got on the piss. He got bulk respect for jumping in the pool, but lost it when he spewed while he was sleeping. Me and him also founded the Juzzo and Jonesy SPD Thong. http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=75641&highlight=spd+thongs

Pete 10. First time I spoke to him he told me I was crazy cause I run right rear. But I beat him so it didnt matter.

Jared. Yeah that Graves guy. At Toowoomba he shook my hand cause I got 2nd. Then again at Toowoomba last year. Love how he rides.

David_M. His user name doesnt really have an underscore but its a joke. Met him at Illinbah national round. And his mate.

Hope to meet more I guess. There is probably more but I can't remember.

Oh.

Ok then.

Fark! Geez! Fine then!

Callan Robison: PMed him one day cos for some reason he knew something about photographic gear and where to buy it (I think this is correct...) and asked him to take me to Raggots. He didn't.

...

But then one day we hooked up for a street sesh with a big crew in the city and just ended up chillin' from there. Memorable moments with Callan include crashing my car with him inside, bunge jumping from Centrepoint Tower, spending 2 weeks in the UK with him fighting chavs, and riding lots of street and dirtjumps. (Note, source can only be confirmed for the last of those...). We also sometimes go shooting, and he's good company to chill with. Mainly because he hasn't decided to go 20". Top c*nt.

Lemonparty: One day, back when he was a wee member on the forums, sent me a PM saying how much he loved me 'n' shit. (Again, source unconfirmed), but also something about how he went to school with my best mate, Elliot. He wanted to ride street (back when he rode a proper bicycle), and so we met up one day for a city stroll. Although he lacked skill, age, and a normal mop of hair, we got along pretty well because he seemed reasonably mature. (Despite using the words "much", "<3" and "imahomo" quite a bit). Now he's converted to BMX, so I don't like him much, but he also shoots a little so I guess i'll give him SOME credit. Plus when he does it's with a Nikon, which is a welcome change.) And he still rides Summer Hill skatepark every time I pass it. Which isn't often. But at least he rides.

Happy now?

(Again, source unconfirmed), but also something about how I went to school with his best mate, Elliot. I wanted to ride street (back when I rode a larger bicycle), and so we met up one day for a city stroll. Although I had so much skill, awesome, and a beautiful mop of hair, we got along pretty well because he seemed reasonably mature. (Despite using the words "much", "<3" and "imahomo" quite a bit). And he still rides somewhere every time I pass it. Which is never. But at least (I think) he rides.

Happy now?

Of course <3.

*edit, here is how it all started:

Will(gluey) posted up some shots of Ragots and Tristan asked me for some hints on where they are, being the respectable person that I am, I declined.

Tristan then went onto saying that remote flashes were cool. A remote flash was used in the shots.I then went onto telling him of a site that Chris Benny had showed me, they had them for reasonably cheap.

We then went onto talking about the city ride the following Sunday, we went, hooked up and haven't looked back since.

Carlin: Carlin is a really nice guy, he rides SS which is amazing as he can keep up with anyone with little to no effort. I met him after organizing a lap of Manly Dam...
Plow King: Haha, just thinking about Chris makes me laugh. This guy is awesome, he's always good for a laugh and when crunch time comes around he can ride too!
RCOH: I didn't really spend much time with RCOH, but my first impressions were good. He seems like a really down to earth kinda guy, he also seems like the sort of person I wouldn't mind meeting in a dark alley. (he's trustworthy)
Fleshbone: I met Alex while riding with Chris, he's a really funny and nice kid. Would rid with him anytime.
Fatman: Dave. Dave. Dave. Where to start...He is an unbelievably funny guy, he makes inappropriate jokes, he sells beer, he's a champion. 10/10 from me.
Nerf Herder: Al is a really nice guy, he seems to think about others before himself which is a wonderful talent. Though after sunday's ride, I'm unsure about trusting him about the tracks we're riding.
Oddjob: Andrew is a really nice guy, he's a good person to talk and ride with. Will definitely ride with again.
Alchemist: Rob is a really good man. He is a fantastic rider, being able to do all the disciplines, and doing them well is a rare talent. Despite looking like he'd have an ice cube's chance in hell of riding a bike, he really can, and with little effort!
Aaronzor: Aaron is a funny kid. I like the way he is, theres just something about the way he goes about his business. Will ride with again, if only for the laughs.
Finmtb: Andrew seems like the sort of person that will be good to ride with when I need to do some training. He's very fit and is a talented rider.
Smooth King: LilCalo...a nice kid, likes to have a laugh and is a good rider. Will ride with again if he's up this way.
Trouble: Ben is a very talented downhiller who knows how to do lots of things to his bike, i.e. fixing. Will ride with again.
Tadders: Gareth is a strange fella. He is a good rider no doubt. But he says and does some things that he should keep to himself. :p
Bipyjamas: Anh is a very down to earth guy. He seems like the person that is content with what he has and doesn't get jealous or angry easily.

I'm sure theres more...all of the guys I've mentioned I would ride with without a second thought. Especially the likes of Fatman and Oddjob, would be the people that I would go riding with if only for their company. They're just funny and really great people.
