ok well i think it doesnt make a difference just wanna be sure i have searched and couldnt come up with anything that came of interest to me
ok well i have hayes mags and i use a hayes 8 inch rotor up front and i am looking into a new rotor and have been offered a avid clean sweep just wondering if i can use the avid rotor with the hayes brake no worries
cheers
(probably a stupid question but i wanna be sure)

it probably wouldnt be as strong as it could be as the hayes rotors are the thickest rotors around, i know of someone who used a avid rotor on the hayes 9 caliper and it was very weak at braking...mind you i could be wrong...

i would stick with the rotor you have as it is designed for that brakes and using another rotor most likely will affect braking performance

I've chopped and changed and used aftermarket cheapie rotors, currently using Hayes rotors for Avid brakes. Never noticed a difference myself. Just bits of stainless steel afterall.

Unless something has changed last time I put a shimano XT rotor up next to a hayes rotor they seemed the same thickness. Cleansweeps don't seem to be any thinner either. I don't think it is going to make any difference at all. I wacked my saint brakes, and later on a juicy 7 onto my huckaround bike which has hayes rotors and they both feel exactly the same as they did with their brand of rotors.

well ive decided im going to keep using my hayes rotor but i just realised then i use a xt? i think its xt well its a shimano rear disc on my rear hayes mag and well i love my rear brake its awesome.
It won't make a huge amount of difference and they are all standard sizes, like dcrofty said they are all just bits of stainless steel.

I use Avid cleansweep rotors on my Hayes El Camino's. No problems at all. Get less drag with them when the rotors get hot.

One of my mates has Saint rotors with his Codes, works fine.

I'll be buying some XT's soon, has anyone tried using Hayes V-cut rotors on them or Avid Cleansweep? I can't afford the bloody XT rotors, so I'll just be sticking with the ones I've got.

did you read anything anyone has said in the thread
i have run deores with hayes v cut and a avid cleansweep (is the clean sweep the one everyone reckons are the shit avid rotors?)
anyway they are all the same just different patterns and sizes

Nah, I read most. Its just that i was reading the new XT calipers and rotors are different. Like the new rotor is thinner so that there can be more pad (thus longer life). I don't remember where I saw that, but that was my concern because if the other rotors are thicker than it may not fit ;)

there are a few differences especially with hope.
As a general rule its fine to chop and change but there arethings to look out for, I've listed some of the issues I have come across. For the main just check that your braking areas are the same (same distance from center and same width).
Some use an 8" rotor (203mm) others use a 200mm rotor and avid uses a 205mm rotor.
The big difference I havd found using a hope floating rotor with jucies is that the hope has less breaking area. I think this is because the hope pads and calipers are designed to have long thin rectangular pads, whereas the avids are closer to square. So I firmly believe that I would get a power increase if I went to an avid rotor as I'd have more contact area.
Another thing is that the hope floating disc has an ueven profile (as you look from the front it bulges at the joiners, this join rubs on avid calipers, so you need to get the file out.
i use avid rotors with hayes 9s because they were cheaper, no difference at all they look better though.
