View Full Version : What screen resolution do you run? 1024 x 768, etc

I was wondering what screen resolution do you run? The reason being, I want to know what the ideal resolution for an image would be. For example, when I post an item in the for sale section I usually use 800x600, but recently I've been using 1024x768 just because it looks better on my screen. I could use 640 by 480 but I figure it might be a bit small.
If I can get an idea of what other people use I can resize my pictures for better viewing quality for potential buyers :D
Personally I use 1280 by 1024, just because its the highest my 17" LCD monitor (and videocard) can handle.

1280x1024 on the LCD at work, 1600x1200 at home because old skool CRT still kicks arse over LCD.
But I usually post images as 800x600 for web images as they are friendly to people who may have older computers and slower internet connections.

As for resizing, stick to 800px on the longest side and you'll be sweet.

Bah, to hell with your LG Leitch! :D
I recommend Samsung 226wd Shayne. For starters what other manufacturer can boast a zero dead pixel warranty?!
I agree with ^
Using 1680 * 1050 on a Samsung screen hooked up to a macbook. Macbook is 1280 * 800. Lots of space
Might have to pick up another one to connect to my pc

I'd considered the LG, but every review I've managed to find put the 226BW above the LG (and about everything else in 22"). I haven't been able to find an LG in the flesh though, but I've got some time to kill this morning so I might go have a look.
I was a little put off by the panel lottery issues with the Samsung, but after having checked out a few different versions of the monitor, with the different panels (to the best of my knowledge), I'm honestly struggling to pick the difference. I don't like the way they tried to cover up the issue, but meh, still the best warranty around, and my current Samsung 17" has been flawless.
I had pretty much decided on the 226BW (http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=computerperipherals&type=monitor&subtype=lcdmonitor&model_cd=LS22MEWSFV/XSA) (Itestate have them at $399, about half of what Harvey Norman want!), but it seems as though Samsung's replacement for the 226, the 2232BW (http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=computersperipherals&type=monitors&subtype=lcd&model_cd=LS22PEBSFV/XAA) is out, and if you're lucky can be had from the Good Guys under $400.
I'm hoping to find a 2232 to have a look at today, and see what it's like. Apparently the panel is more or less the same as the 226, it's mainly a different bezel design (which I could take or leave). If the 2232 has the glossy screen I've read about, then I'll take the 226 as I can't deal with the reflections. If it doesn't, I dunno; flip a coin?:o

for compatibility, I still base my web development on a 1024x768 model, as there is nothing that sucks harder than a site that was designed for a larger screen than you have.

Although after just discovering the bill for my car will be around ~$960, I think the new monitor might have to wait a little while.:(

dual 30" displays is nice for somethings, but can be a bit of a pain in the arse for general puting.
also makes a mouse completely useless. luckily they got me a 23" wacom tablet to drive it.

dual 30" displays is nice for somethingsNice. I've only (?) got a single 30" LCD hooked up to this desktop, so 2560x1600 is enough for the moment.
I run multiple virtual desktops though, so can switch through 8 complete desktops which keeps things organised (one for web browsing, another for email/IM, the rest for various work things).
