First of all I did a search through all the previous car audio threads and was unable to find the info I was looking for so here goes.

Just purchased a 2006 STI and am looking to upgrade the stock head unit which is a pile of poo to something a bit better (either single or double din).

The car came with two 10" underseat subs which sound great and dont make loud doof doof noises outside the car for the world to hear and I would like to keep it that way.

I am after a decent mid-range head unit (read: under $500) that will allow me to use (and preferrably control) my ipod from the head unit as well as play regular cds.

Has anyone used or know of a head unit like this they would recommend, or if not can you suggest or list some important features to look out for when buying a head unit.

Cheers

Car audio specific forum with everything for the beginner to the expert.

In the sydney area, you should go see Precision Audio in Carlton. Paul and George have more car audio experience than you could possibly imagine.

Oh, you should be looking at an Alpine deck along the lines of the CDA-9886i. Should do everything you need it too...

I have to agree with Woody, I just bought my wife one of those units and it is great. Can't really go past alpine in general but their new units are great BFYB
