Bleh. Wheres the watercoolers? :p
Anything other than grotty cars with wound down torsion bars and fuchs or chrome wide fives stuffed under them?
The 356 is INSANE though!
Nice pics, but gee...the VW scene is getting a bit 'textbook' style isn't it? When the Volksrod thing hits here I think it will be close to played out.

this car looks awesome.

i really dont like the angled wheels (whatever its called) on some of those cars. no offence if one is yours.
Love the Kombi's in the last photo.
Are all split windscreen Kombi's pre 1968 / 1969 ?
Those headlight grilles (thingy's :D ) on the kombi on the left look great !!
Thanks for posting up the piccies.

That 356 is shit. Totally ruins the appeal of them for mine.
Hopefully there are not too many of them restored so distastefully in Aus. Makes my goal of restoring one to original condition much more appealing if this is what ends up happening to them. Makes me so sad in the pants. (It does look however a hell of alot of work has gone into that paint job. Nice craftsmanship. Pity it looks like shit.)
now this is one hot 356

VW Nats is on in April every year at fairfield showground.
Nice Pics. My bro just got back from a years travel &has just started the rebuild of his 63 splitty panel Kombi.
For floody, my best mate is building a 100% custom 73 mkI gold (2 door swallowtail). He has desingned & built the engine, roll cage, dash, tansmission fuel tank, door inserts, widened & deepened the wheel arches - everything is not stock. gonna be fast light & completely illegal.

That 356 is fucking tight.
I want.
My next car is going to be a VW. Except, this one will have headlights that work, a fuel gauge and maybe even air conditioning. In stark contrast to my current vw.
At some point in the future though, I want a twin cab, splitty ute, cut into a 'vert, lifted, with a v8.

Bags are for chicks.
I've been obsessed with VW's for a while and I've just got a '74 Camper. Plans are to fit out the interior myself (it's empty at the moment) with a rock and roll bed and a cupboard or 2. I'll probably paint it blue and white and get some white walls.

I'll disagree.:)
Originaly resto's undoubtedly have their place, but I for one don't see anything particularly attractive in the 356 front bumper. The clean look is a modern take on a very classical shape, and I reckon it's a well executed interpretation.

I my self don't have a problem with the front/rear bar being removed (it's not a look I would go for personally) its more the fact the car is slammed, the rims are not my cup of tea, the grill over the lights and the rear side window are what I don't like about it.
Any pics of some golfs?

I do think there is some confusion about that 356... Im no real big expert on the 356 but i beleive that model is a genuine RHD build for a racecar for some famouse singer in the 60's... So i did not come with side windows or bumpers etc... And as for the wheels they r just standard wide fives with the brake drums polished as all race 356 had alloy drums... I do see there is some smoothing etc but it is very nice ride and pulls some big numbers on the Dyno too...

Those VW dubs have a massive rear wheel camber angle when lowered, they would chew through tires in no time.

when's the next show in VIC?
my mum actually owned the first karmann ghia imported into Australia.
i think it was a '61 model but it wasnt a type 34 or TC.
i wish she still had it/looked after it better.
dad said it was a beautiful car and a dream to own and drive.
i think the 356 looks absolutely tops but yes originals have their place too.
anyone watch "classic resto's" on channel 31? Fletch has had a few combi's including an immaculate slpit window and a pretty darn nice herby on the show.
