Can I use an 8spd shifter with a 9spd derailluer on a 8spd cassette and it will work properly and shift nicely?

The shifter would be a Sram Attack and the deraiuller would be a Deore LX or 105.

thanks in advance

thanks in advanceNow i might be wrong, but i think you can.
The shifter and cassette will be no problem,i think you will have to be careful setting your hi/low set screws on your derailleur to set it correctly.
If i am wrong,i stand corrected!

Thats what I was thinking just playing around with limiters but yeh. Just need some definite re-assurance it'll work before I buy parts.

Just need some definite re-assurance it'll work before I buy parts.I have just sat and thought about it,and yes it will work, your hi/low screws are the critical factor, once you can get the adjustment, you should be ok,you may also have to fiddle with the barrel adjuster as well, but you sound like you know what you are doing!
Good Luck

It will work. Plenty of bikes have, and still do, come with a deore level dérailleur and 8 speed cassette and shifter.

It'll be fine, and the limit screws and barrel ajuster won't need any more attention than with a 9 speed. More of a concern is a MTB cassette with a 105 mech,if the cassette has a big jump in gear range, the derailer may have the wrong throw and slam into the cassette, but I think I'm just talking to hear my own voice and this won't be an issue for you. I'm guessing it's single front ring?

yeh definately single front ring. not sure about the gear jump. I run a tiagra on my DH with a 11-21. I think my 8spd is a 11-30 or 11-28. it should be ok hoepfully

don't sram attack only come in 9spd?

The question has already been answered but I remember it like this... the same speed shifter (Eg. 8 spd) works fine with same speed casette (Eg. 8 spd) ... Most 8/9 spd derailluers are not a 'certain speed' as the width of a 8 and 9 speed casette is the same, it just moves however mush the cable is pulled/eased off. Mixing casette/shifter speeds will result in a double shift somewhere in the gears and possibly some ghost shifting but fine adjustments can make this un ideal combination work for 'a' period of time.

or am i talking shit
