Im just about to start 4X racing and wondering whether to run clips or platforms? what are your thoughts?

For 4X definately clips... you have so much more efficiency for pedalling and in terms of getting in and out quickly it should not really be a problem in 4X as you don't get into too many technical sections!!

You'll hit the dirt harder when you do though.

Err, in clips that is.

Can't think of the negatives!! Plus, thats what makes it all the more interesting for the spectators...

Clips if you can handle it, but make sure you familiarise yourself before you jump in to a race.
Last thing you want to do is to have to dab around a corner, and not be able to clip out, and when you do unclip, struggle for the next 10metres trying to get back in.
But if you're used to clipping, and the action is natural for you... why not give it a go?

I have recently swapped over to clips for downhill and they are bloody awesome (once you get use to the feel of them). They give you a lot better control of the bike and they come in handy for getting the holeshot into corners for 4x. But yeah if you come off remember the bike comes with you as well which can be rather painfull some times.

if u wanna take on sumone on into a corner or sumthing in 4x then it gets abit hetic but for starts u get the biggest advantage.

i'd say no clips, get really grippy pedals and shoes if that works...i dunno but clips are scary, sure its intresting for the crowd but your not really thinkin' about them then, then u cant pull off the old supermans and no footers...thats not intresting for the crowd..

You shouldn't be thinking about crashing or showing off either, if you want to win!

Very True! but, IMO i tend to like to be able to take my feet off pedals when cornering to even out balance and wel....if your winning by a good few seconds, why not pull a move over the finishing jump? but yeah, the thought of clipping in is.....yeah scary, i wouldn't, everyones difrent though

once ur used to them, which doest take long, clips are great. when i stack, which is often..., i naturally unclip without thinking. as someone else said, its like learning to ride a bike...
i good pair of platform clipins wil still give u good traction uncliped, so landings, jumps etc are still possible :)

flats, if u get knocked or maybe get off blance, the flats are quicker to regaint balance and get the power back out, where as, wether u like it or not, ya gonna crash with the clips when that happens, thing, all the fastest guys us flats, tell ya something?
