i did a search and couldn't find anything relavent so...
i'm heading up to mt. stromlo for the anzac day weekend and i just have a few questions about stuff!
1. How do you get back up to the top? (walk, shuttle bus)
2. is there only one dh track or is there more?
3. what is the difficulty like compared to buller?
4. are there any bike shops close to the mountain?
if your up there over the weekend keep your eye out for a brown norco savage (me, Daniel), a grey norco shore, and a black speacialized p1 (going to get ownded i'm guessing). don't be affaid to say hello, i promise i won't eat you! :p
cheers, Daniel
Pack your walking shoes if you want to walk back to the top, your best option is to link up with a couple of people and do the shuttle.
Most of the main tracks are on the map but there are a couple of variations not shown.

There are a few bike shops within a few KM's from stromlo, like TLC in Phillip.

Well you will be walking unless you can organise your own private shuttles. There is the world cup dh, the beginner dh (other side) and a whole network of xc tracks that can take you back down to the carpark. I'm not sure on what it is like to buller but the track will more than likely to not have the gates open to the big gaps. There is the bike shed in phillip (next to woden plaza) that can take care of many of your issues.
I will be out there racing the xc short track event on friday

To combine a few of the answers, plus some extra info...
Refer to this map (http://www.stromloforestpark.com.au/map/index.html).

1. How do you get back up to the top? (walk, shuttle bus)
Its walk, or get together with some people and organise your own shuttle. There is a bitumen road all the way to the start of the "worlds" DH course (summit trail head on the map). Or, some will position the shuttle where Mt Stromlo Road joins Cotter Road and ride over to that from the finish of the worlds DH at the main trail head.
2. is there only one dh track or is there more?
There are two. The worlds DH starts at the summit trail head and finishes at the main trail head.
The beginner DH starts at a crest about 200m north of the main trail head (near a swing gate) and heads north-west down the other side of the mountain. You can end up at the western trail head if you want to have a shuttle, or its walk back up.
3. what is the difficulty like compared to buller?
I don't know the answer to that, but I've heard a rumour that Buller has more trees :)
There are some photos of the NSW State DH round at Stromlo here (http://picasaweb.google.com.au/lematelot56/StromloNSWDHRound06Apr08).
4. are there any bike shops close to the mountain?
Heaps (if you have a car). Bike Shed and TLC in Philip are the closest, then on the north side there's Onya Bike in Belconnen, Ride Shop and Lonsdale in Braddon plus Mal Adjusted in Dickson. This Map (http://picasaweb.google.com.au/lematelot56/Scott24HR2007MapsAndPlans/photo#5118553579163780642) shows the streets, Philip is south-east of Stromlo and the Bike Shed is on the south side of Hindmarsh Drive in Philip next to the Magnet Mart hardware store. TLC is in the block behind them, east of the roundabout.
The courses for the World Cup and World Champs are shown on photos in this album (http://picasaweb.google.com.au/lematelot56/StromloWorldCupAndWorldChamps). Make sure you click on the one you want to download (one is a large file for printing).
