ok this probably sounds like the most stupid question ever:D but, how do chain guides work and can u still change gears with them - as in the gears that are next to the pedals - and how much????
cheers
If we are both on the same level
then no you cant have a Front derialeur working when you have a chain guide. Im 95% sure what ive said is right
but as always im happy to be corrected ;)

Well i am also open to correction but i think E13 make a dual ring chain guide. Someone who really knows there stuff will have to correct me or agree with me.
chain guides only allow you to run one chain ring up the front but you can get shift guides which enables you to be able to shift

The roller on a dual ring guide will either have two different levels so that when the chain derails onto the other chain ring, it also derails onto the matching 'level' on the roller. Alternativly, the roller will have a long bolt which it can move on as the chain shifts.

Most brands make a guide to accomidate two chainrings. A few examples are;
eThirteen DRS
Blackspire Dewlie (few different modles there)
TruVativ ShiftGuide
MRP LRP Partycrasher
etc

I run an E13 SRS (single ring guide) on one of my bikes and a E13 DRS (dual ring guide on another. They are basically the same price
