Had an 06, sold the frame, built a new 07 Reign 0 and instantly dropped 500g - loving that.

All up she's 14.1kg as is with:

Fox 36 Van RC2 (soon swapping to a 140mm fork, undecided which)
Mavic 321s, ignitor front and crossmark rear tyre
XT cranks, front derailleur and 4-pots
X-9 rear derailleur
EA70 stem with monkey bars
Thomson seatpost (need to cutdown further!)
and my favourite Oury lock-ons.

I'm planning to re-route the cabling tomorrow to avoid rub against the RP23 shock.

My 3rd Reign, you can't get me away from them - they're too hard to beat in terms of value and all-round-ability.

cool bike. Reigns are the shiznit

May I ask why are you getting rid of the 36's?

They're not entirely light and possibly a bit too tall for such a bike.

What did you do with the old one (2006)?
I love those 2006 Reigns!

Athertons shredding memories anyone?

Good stuff. 500g savings is decent for sure. Just my opinion, but the old frames look so much tougher than the new ones :)

Sps.

Lookin good! I reckon you could chose a better tyre combo though... 2.35 High Roller 60a for the front and larsen TT 2.35 for the rear works sweet on this bike. :)

Well done Cam.
If you're keen, I know a dodgy asian trying to offload a Crossmax SX wheelset for a good price.

Ha, just saw all the responses to this, thanks guys.

Yeah the 36s are nice and I'll keep them for DH duties, but too slushy for the majority of my riding. I'm loving coils so narrowed down to Van 32s (don't like QR though) or Pikes.

Sold the large 06 Reign frame I had but still got a medium, selling shortly. Gotta say though after some rides, the RP23 is the best part of the 07 frame. Agree with the toughness comment, but in the same vein the 07 looks lighter (as well as being lighter) and I think that helps you psychologically on the trails.

Yep my tyre combo isn't impressing me right now. The Crossmarks especially are slipping where they shouldn't. I ride a lot of loose rocky/dry sections and they're almost as bad as my old Hutchison Pythons. I've got some High Rollers, and will try Larsons on the rear.

As for the Crossmaxs - stay dodgy asian man. Still considering :)

Mate, what you've got there is 2008 Reign 0 frame, not an 07. The 08 frames are about 700g lighter than 07. I'm still being blown away by my 08 Reign 1. Great value, great ride and they look good as well.

I'm a bit confused by your above post. Is the 08 frame you have now a medium or large, because I remember you asking me about the frame size and how the large rides. I think I mentioned how he large was the right size for me, but I felt a little bit stretched out. I myself have swapped out the original 110mm stem for an 80mm and the change in handling is amazing. It is a lot easier to get over the back on the descents now. If you got the large and it still feels foreign, play around with the stem and spacers and you'll notice a big change in stability, cornering and descents.

Are you serious? Ha. It was advertised as an 07. Nice.

Yep I got a large frame and went from 110 stem to 90mm. It feels right, just need to cut my seat tube to finally get comfy. It feels perfect on the flats, and just a bit tall for DH but seating should change that.

Nah just bought the frame only, and had the parts already.

Yeah I'm serious! The frame looks exactly the same as my 2008 Reign 1, but yours is Silver. The difference between 07 and 08 frames are hydroformed tubes in a different design, new co-pivot design for the rear shock eliminating the old 'glory hole'/hole through the downtube where the shock was mounted on 07 frames, and 700g lighter than 07!! Great pick up! Being an 08 frame, you would've got the Fox Shock with more adjustability, the RP23 I believe, over the RP2 on the Reign 1's.
If you haven't re-routed the cables around the shock yet, all I did on mine was put some clear stickers/protective adhesive where the cables contact the shock. Also make sure you get some adhesive sheeting onto the frame quickly before any cable rub appears. The paint is very thin. Some sheeting on the downtube will also stop chips in the paint from stones hitting the downtube.

Great, with those adjustments it should fit you well. Enjoy it!

Yeah sounds right - mine's actually a goldy colour, just the pics.

This is my effort at the cable route, seems to work. Couldn't do it exactly as I wanted as my rear brake cable wasn't long enough.

If you want an even better cable routing for the rear brake cable.

Its actually neater if you route the brake cable on the "chain stay" rather than the "seat stay". Somebody else on farkin here did so and it was really neat.

Give it ago, only problem is that isn't any cable stays on the chain stay, some zip ties will do. But you do need to fix the angle at which the hose comes out of the caliper to do so.

Hopefully the guy who did it on farkin will read this and actually show you the picture.

Sounds like a good suggestion, I'll give it a go in any case.

So far had two off-road rides on the bike and doesn't seem to be any rubbing or wear marks anywhere which is good.

Just posting developments on my Reign 0.

Got the cable routing sorted, it’s great. No rubbing at all and no protection (stickers etc).
Maxxis Ardents fitted, so far so good.
I’ve just bought some Lyrik 2-steps so will be fitting those this week (wanted travel adjust).

I haven’t used the large chainring all year so that’s going, replacing with a bashring of course. I’m running a 32t middle ring so will prob keep that, may go to 36. I also might upgrade shifters to 08 X-9 (from 06), and a medium cage derailleur. Other than that, nothing much to fault when riding this puppy, very happy.

It's not an Aussie frame is it? In that case it most likely is an '07 like advertised, but the '07 models from say the USA would be the same as what we got in Aus in '08 - if that makes sense to you.

A further example with a trance, in '06 the US had the glory hole type trance, and Aus had the basket shock still, for '08 Aus got the glory hole as well.

Hey man, thanks for looking at my rad ride :)

It's an 08, confirmed that. Check this out from the Giant (Aust) archives:
